Kristi (kristicoleman) We decided that no break was needed this week, so here is our thread for discussion! What did you think of this section?

Zulfiya (ztrotter) I for one is happy that we are going to read without a break. I have already finished the novel, but I took notes (no worries here :-)) and am looking forward to our next read, a themed read about Asia and India. I apologize for my lyrical excursus :-)

The events are gaining momentum in this section, and they are all happening all over Chester's Mill. Not all of them have a positive dynamic. Now we know why Sammy was trying so hard to obtain a gun. She either could not believe in justice or was very desperate and acted impulsively. At least now people should have no doubts who raped the girl and why she decided to act they way she acted. I am now worried about Little Walter. He has lost his mother without knowing her, and he actually never had a father. Phil aka Chef turned into a true evangelical psycho.

I am happy that Jackie and Linda decided to act. Oh, the humiliation Barbie had to experience and what they did to his bowl of cereal. This situation also reveals how catalytic the situation with the Dome is. Good people flock together, and bad people flock together. The Dome brings the best and the worst in its citizens; the booger and the bowl of cereal are quite symbolic in its context.

It is obvious that Big Jim is turning this small place into a police state or a totalitarian state where he is willing to feed people lies and to organize smear campaigns and to rewrite the recent history. And people are pliable material. Most people are just a herd who are happy to be led, and only a few have guts to question the authority of Big Jim and his posse. And the story gains even more poignant message when you understand that Chester's Mill is the world in miniature.

Deana (ablotial) Yeah, too bad for Sammy. I found it weird that "The Chef" felt so strongly about going to get her body and giving her a proper burial, after all he hadn't seen her in ... months? And he had to come out of hiding to do it, so everyone will know he was still around and wonder ... hey, where has that guy been hiding out? I see this causing problems for Big Jim.

I really hope they don't give Little Walter to Phil, being his father and all. They best be smarter than that...

Looking forward to finding out how Barbie eventually makes it out of his cell.
