The Notebook discussion

I didn't really care for The Notebook, and I don't really understand why the book is so popular? I guess the romance between Noah and Allie seemed a little flat to me; I never really did understand what they loved so much about each other that kept them in love for--what was it, ten years? When they did interact, I thought the whole relationship was a little fake and over the top, and the whole relationship between the two was pretty tasteless and insubstantial--nothing that would last as long as it did. I was horribly bored throughout the entire book. Anybody else feel this way or have any thoughts?

I've seen this movie several times and I love it, so I wanted to read the book. It's one of the few books I've read that didn't surpass the movie. I agree with you.

I definitely liked the movie better because I could actually see how the relationship developed and why they loved each other. In the book it just sort of... happened.

i disagree, i had watched the movie before reading the novel and loved it until...
i picked up the novel. i thought the adaption was pathetic, it just pretty much assumed how Allie and Noah's relationship was at 16, when truly the novel was set mostly in the present.
The movie didn't portray any of the "love concurs illness:- "love is the only cure" theme that Spark set in The Notebook Novels.
And i also felt like through the novel even though Allie was a strong and energetic character its no where near the mere description Sparks presented to us in his novels. If comparing the novel Allie and Adaption Allie, Adaption Allie was blank.
I honestly believe the movie adaption is never better then the book because with a novel you can imagine and interpret things the way that's best tailored for you, by you

I did not like this book either. The movie made it seem like the story was more of an EPIC romance. I quickly realized that it was not the case concerning the book.

I was excited to read this book because I had seen the movie before. The book was a little boring to me. It's one of the few cases where I actually liked the movie better.

I feel that way about all the Nicholas Sparks books, though I do understand why they are so popular. They are simple, straightforward romances and always have those tearjerking moments. They have nice, simple characters whom you sort of have to like, which may make them flat at times, but also incredibly easy on the heart. And their problems are external and conquered, in this case Age and Alzheimers.

Still I find them so predictable that I just don't feel it.

I was really excited to read the book because every girl in my school or in the magazines were talking about it. I had a choice between watching the movie first or reading the book first and personally I prefer reading it first and so I did. Throughout the entire book it was so boring! The relationship between Noah and Allie were so fake and because of the book I still haven't watch the movie yet. It is that bad. I heard that the movie was way better than the novel though so I am hoping to watch it very soon.

I didn't see the movie yet but I have read the book and I was quite disappointed since I expected so much. the movie is so popular that it made me think the book is extraordinary but unfortunately it's not :(
