Jane (PS) | 24334 comments Right-e-o! We are underway.

1. You are free to name your team. This is not mandatory, but it is fun. Given we are an open/public group with no age limit, so please make sure any chosen name is smart, not smutty ;)

Please PM your name to me by 1 Feb.

2. Pick a Team Captain. The team captain will track the books read by the team and notify me in a separate thread of the team's completions. They will also double-check that your book selection complies with the rules - eg make sure that the post is as per the formatting and information requested below (msg 3).

Anyone is free to ask questions in the Q&A/Announcement thread - here. If you are unsure, please ask.

Once a Captain has been decided, the Team Captain should reserve a couple of posts in this thread to track the book selection and completion.

3. Introduce yourself to your team. Definitely let your team members know where you are from. This is a 'nice to know' when categories are announced and when team-mates can expect other members to post their book choices.

4. If you have a private profile, please 'friend' your team-mates. This is really important, because without this, your team-mates can't see your shelves to select a books under option 2.

5. Please make sure you post your book selection in the format provided below. (This format is also posted in both the Q&A and Sign-Up threads.) We need to know the week that each book corresponds to, the page numbers, and how the book qualifies (where applicable), etc. I can't stress this enough.

6. You MUST check in with your team each week, ideally once the theme is announced. Please let your team know if you except to have spotty communication or are on holidays or having an operation.

7. When you post the completion of your book, you must post a review; enough for us to know you have actually read the book. Please don't link to a review. You must post the review in this thread.

8. Re-reads are allowed but you can't read the same book twice within this challenge.

9. There is no prize for the winning team - bragging rights only :)

The Rule on the Pass Option
* Each team can only have ONE member using their pass each week.
* Each member can only use that pass once each 4 weeks.
* No-one can use the pass option in the last week of the challenge.

****************

Sample post - completion

Week 3: Dark Desire (Dark, #2) by Christine Feehan Dark Desire - 4 stars.

I found this book a bit dark. (Huh - well perhaps I should have expected that!) However once I settled into the 'theme' of more extreme violence and I knew what to expect, I really enjoyed it. I can't handle too many scary scenes! (Yes, I read vampire books voluntarily...)

Mandy Sickle (thereadingdiaries) | 473 comments Hi everyone. I don't think I've had the chance to meet any of you yet. I'm a challenge addict so this one should be fun. I'm a stay at home Airforce wife who married my non-bookish soulmate with two kids and a super huge puppy. Most days I live on goodreads so it seems. Looking forward to getting started.

Megan L Harnett | 806 comments Hi Team,

I am always signing up for these challenges and will try a challenge at least once to see if I like it or not! I am looking forward to playing with you. If nobody has a great desire to be team captain I can tackle it. If anybody has any fun team name ideas let us know so we can vote on them.

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments Since everyone is ready to start and I under-estimated the organisational skills of all these groups as well as myself, I will call the first theme (category) early on Wednesday between 6-9pm US EST. (That is Thursday 9am - 12pm Australian EST :)

This means everyone will have 9 days to read their first book. I will revert to Friday in week 2.

Please watch the Q&A/Announcement thread for the call or any other updates :)

Heist Society (Heist Society, #1) by Ally Carter 287 pages/ Goodreads

message 32: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments Please use the format for posting your books as per msg 3 of this team thread. Please make a separate post (without chatter ;) for that selection AND for when you post your completion. This will make it MUCH easier for the Captain to track your books.

And please remember to mark each selection and completion post with the week number as well. This is really important, especially when we reach week 7, and book reviews and selections could cover from week 5 through to week 7.

(Selections still have to happen in the week of the theme announcement, but members can fall behind on posting their book completion by up to 2 weeks. At 3 weeks they are eliminated from the challenge.)

Rating★★★★
Review:
Katarina (Kat) Bishop is retired as a thief at least she’s trying to be she’s attending a boarding school. However being normal isn’t easy but it’s consistent unlike being a thief. When a guy from her past shows up at school he plans to bring her back to the life she’s tried to move past. Her father is in trouble being blamed for robbing five painting from a mobster and unless Kat can get them back they will all be in for a world of hurt.

With the help of her cousins and Hale the young billionaire Kat has to hunt down the missing paintings. When the trail leads them to the Henley one of the highest security museums it’s up to Kat to figure out a plan. Both her uncle and father agree she should pass but she has to save her friends and father from the mobster. Besides the painting don’t really belong to him in the first place and Kat wants to do what’s right. Will she be able to break into the Henley? Who is this mysterious robber who stole the paintings and hid them behind the other paintings at the Henley?

I didn’t connect with Kat at first she just frustrated me but as the book progress I was able to make a connection. She’s a good person at heart she just happened to grow up in a family of thieves. I liked Hale right from the start he’s the only one who didn’t grow up in a family of thieves but he’s a perfect addition to the team. Plus I like the idea of the handsome billionaire with Kat. We will have to see how the series progresses I have high hopes.

I’ve been hearing great things about Ally Carters books so when the chance came up to read Heist Society for not one but two challenges I jumped at the chance. While I didn’t connect right away with the main characters I grow to enjoy all the characters and Kat got better as the book progressed. I found the concept new and exciting this is my first book with thieves and the fact that it was about art was fascinating. I enjoyed the writers style it flows along from start to finish it's a books teens as well as adults will enjoy. The book started a little slow for my tastes but was worth it in the end. It’s a quick fast paced action packed read once the story picks up a little. I enjoyed the book and plan to read the rest of the series as well as check out her other books.

message 37: by Mandy (new)

message 40: by Megan L (new)

Megan L Harnett | 806 comments LOL! We have lots of powder but no mountains near by. No skiing here just 10 inches of snow having to shovel and drive carefully through and get to and from work in one piece!

message 41: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (dawn_e) | 157 comments lol I would love to ride horses but my husband isn't fond of horses and the last time I had to beg him to do a horseback trip over by Maroon bells and that was 4 years ago. Yeah Ive done a bunch of shoveling that last 2 weeks :(. I love powder days!! its more like surfing and so much fun!

There were some good parts and loved the world building and the characters but parts of it were very cliche. I will probably pick up the 2nd in the series as I do like her Stormwalker series.
