Trin | 6 comments I'm in the process of editing Staffordshire: It's Magic & Mystery, and while part way through, I finally got the book cover I was going to upload cleaned up enough to actually upload. Perhaps unsurprisingly, I clicked on the "upload photo" link, and was extremely shocked to end up back at the 'front book page' (as in the page that the above link links to - is there a particular name for this page?), with the little red box at the top reading "The book data was saved."

While I understand that clinking on a link can take me off a page, I wasn't expecting to have what I'd already altered automagically saved.

[1:] I suggest that this is a flaw in the site design somewhere, and one that could result in sometimes 'horrible mis-edits' occurring.

[2:] Would it be possible to add a "do you want to save the changes you have made so far" page/link/pop-up/whatever between the edit page and whatever page happens to be being navigated to?

Eva-Marie Nevarez (evamarie3578) | 753 comments As far as I know that doesn't usually happen so it's not a flaw in the design. I think it might have just been a fluke. That's never happened to me before during any edit.
You might want to post this in the feedback group to make sure everyone sees it though.

Trin | 6 comments *nods*

It could be because I was dumb enough to initially miss the "choose file" box before hitting the "upload photo" link, but then if I can be dumb enough to do such a thing, then I'm someone else could be dumb enough to do that too.

Is it possible to get this thread transferred across to the feedback group, or do I need to make a new post?

Eva-Marie Nevarez (evamarie3578) | 753 comments No, you need to make a new post but that's not a bad idea- to have them transfer! It's definitely needed sometimes.
I don't know- if you think you might have missed the box and had it happen that way there would be no reason to really post there also. But if you think it's a glitch you could post just in case. There have been a few minor glitches recently which is what I was thinking this was.
Either way someone else, someone important, will see it! :)

Trin | 6 comments Hmmmm, thanks. I think I'll pseudo move the thread over to there, and just link back to this thread here so that whomever wants to join in can do so where they think best.

Thanks for your help. :)

ETA: Cross-post can be found HERE.

Cynthia Armistead Newman (technomom) | 159 comments Um, Eva, uploading a photo has ALWAYS taken me back to the show-book view, rather than the edit screen. It does save the changes I've made this far, and as far as I can tell from Trin's message, that's what it did with her, too.

Eva-Marie Nevarez (evamarie3578) | 753 comments Hi Cyn, I didn't tell her that it wouldn't. I told Trin that what I've never experienced the edited data being saved without actually clicking save.
Hopefully Trin didn't misunderstand me now that I'm aware you have but I don't think she did since we think we've figured out what happened.

Trin- you'll see this I'm sure and you're very welcome! :)

Eva-Marie Nevarez (evamarie3578) | 753 comments I don't know about that but this post was kind of confusing to some people. You're right about the fact that it does save and Trin wasn't aware of that. I was confused and then Cyn got confused but it worked out in the end.
