Jeffrey Panzer | 2 comments Before I'd written Awakening, before I'd edited it and shared it and eventually published it, I'd never heard of Speculative Fiction. And so I found myself in the amorphous limbo of Science/Visionary/General/Literary Fiction. Upon realizing I needed a clear genre for marketing purposes, I stumbled upon Speculative Fiction, which, of course, no one can adequately define, not really. I thought: 'Sounds about right.'

Because fundamentally the book, this first book in the trilogy, is about attaining sight, on a variety of levels.

You see, what we see is at all times bound to and couched in innumerable layers of context, dependent meanings and representations, story.

The Epoch Trilogy explores these and many other concepts through a narrative spanning two distinct yet intimately connected time lines, one of Daniel, set in 2050, and another of Peter, Andrew, and Thorin, 24 years earlier. In both the characters confront the dilemma of finding themselves and their place amidst a world that is varyingly antipathetic and welcoming, familiar and unknown.

Epoch Awakening is the first chapter in an epic tale of political upheaval, personal growth and discovery, and the burgeoning Spirit that will mark the New Age of this world. Among its lines is found an in-depth discussion and development of freedom, friendship, identity, and the significance of the stories we all read, write, and live every day.

It has found a home among fans of Iain Banks, Paulo Coelho, David Foster Wallace, James Redfield, and many others.
