Pride and Prejudice
question
Colin Firth or Mathew MacFayden?

Its definitely Colin Firth for me !! I just love how he emoted onscreen. I think MacFayden just killed Mr Darcy.Firth made me totally love Mr Darcy. The chemistry between him and Ehle was awesome :)
Plus, the dialogues were totally changed in the 2005 version. This gives me reason enough to abhor the movie. I watched in 1995 version after this one and liked it better.

Definitely Colin Firth, Mathew Mcfayden just wasn't snobby enough to pull it off. Also the chemistry between him and Jennifer Ehle was electric. Also Kiera Knightly isn't Elizabeth she's too wet. Elisabeth needs to be gutsy and Darcy needs to be up his own bum for most of the story
COLIN FIRTH ALL THE WAY! he was really successful in emphasizing the proud Darcy. I think Matthew MacFayden was a sort of "modern Darcy".
Matthew Macfadyen defined the role for me. I'm a fan of Colin Firth, but not as Mr. Darcy.

I liked everything about the Colin version better, including Colin. So, he's got my vote! :)
Colin Firth! I love him.
I think his a great actor and...also a great Mr. Darcy.
Matthew MacFayden is....too sweet for me....I think Mr. Darcy should be stronger than him...but it's only my opinion :)

I don't think anything will ever beat Colin Firth's performance. I love that mini-series. Now I have to pull out my CD's and watch it again! (But I do recall very distinctly the moment in the 2005 version when Darcy helped Elizabeth into the carriage and then afterwards there's a close-up of his hand.) I have to admit, I'd watch any version of this story.
Definitely Colin Firth, he is the epitome of Darcy and the best.
I love them both for different reasons. Matthew MacFadyen was the more attractive of the two (and I love me some eye candy) and he was also the more sympathetic of the two in my estimation.
That said, Colin Firth was probably closer to the way Austen saw Darcy. Plus he had the advantage of a longer vehicle in which to sell it.

If you're a Firth fan, I wouldn't recommend the movie I just half-watched last night, The Gambit, but I would recommend a little-known but beautifully written Horton Foote film with Firth, Main Street.

I prefer Matthew MacFadyen. I have only watched the 05 version but I would like to see the 95 version. MM plays Darcy well. He just how I imagined Darcy.
A Dame To Kill For

Doesn't it *bother* you that he never read the book? I feel like that's part of the reason I didn't like him. It showed! I feel as though he didn't pl

Hands Down Colin Firth!!! the chemistry was very evident between him and Ehle, with McFayden and Knightley I just did not feel until the last scene. I did like McFayden as Darcy however much more than Knightley as Lizzie. But in the end Colin Firth is the best Darcy for me!
Colin Firth for sure! The BBC series is an absolute masterpiece. It captures the humour of the book perfectly. For me it is now how I picture Mr Darcy and Elizabeth when I read it. Also Keira Knightly is a terrible actress, let's be honest and a less convincing tomboy there never was. Special mention to Lady Catherine de Burgh who is a comedic genius in the BBC version.

I love Colin Firth, but MacFayden will always be Mr. Darcy for me.
Colin, hands down. Saw P&P again last night and cried the last half...again I might add.
Well, does the fact that whenever I see Colin Firth, I screamed out "Mr Darcy!" count?? LOL Colin's my favorite!
the 1995 version stayed so much truer to the book- which is why I prefer Colin firth because the point is that he's arrogant and unapproachable. that's how she wrote it and that's what he captured. he is mr. Darcy.
MMF for me, please ;-)
And what about the ever intriguing Rupert Penry-Jones who played Frederick Wentworth in Persuasion? It got me infected with Austen Fever again!

They are both incredibly attractive as well as talented but for Mr. Darcy; Matthew is my choice.
I prefer Matthew Macfadyen as Mr Darcy . Colin Firth is a superb actor but while reading the book I felt the growing attraction of Mr Darcy towards Elizabeth and his struggle was brilliantly portrayed by Matthew Macfadyen as in BBC Version , Colin Firth was more arrogant and his love for Elizabeth was surprise rather than gradual process
I can't help , but after 10 long years of Firth's Darcy, I was swept off by MacFadyen. HE's the Darcy right Austen portrayed in her book. Incredible actor. And he got his wonderful voice , which is delicious, and just MacFadyen's personality matter is there. He's great in any aspects.
Colin Firth for sure even though I love MacFadyen too. Both had their own unique styles. Although, the best Mr. Darcy was Sir Lawrence Olivier:)
Definitely Colin Firth! He is the embodiment of pride AND prejudice. The way he looks at you is quite intimidating.
MacFayden just has this wounded puppy look that doesn't match the character at all.

Mr. Macfadyen's wooden acting style does nothing for me not to mention the fact the movie strips away Jane Austen's beautiful words. Colin Firth was amazing but the best Mr. Darcy is the one in Lost in Austen. He's just as I pictured Mr. Darcy.
I liked Collin firth better just because he was so arrogant. That was what the character was made to be in the book. The point was to dislike him and be just as surprised as Elizabeth. And part of the character was that he didn't really show outward signs with anyone. Part of that character is that he's lizzies foil. I think firth portrayed that point best.
I love them both... but MacFadyen is hands-down my Mr. Darcy. I would marry him if I could. Yes, Firth is sexy, but he isn't my quintessential perfect man. Plus, MacFadyen had a very interesting take on Darcy, which I like. Firth has the more natural take on Darcy.
....Just MacFadyen... with those eyes...and amazingly sensuous voice....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i couldn't stand Matthew Mackfaden, in fact i hated the whole film. The BBC version is by far the best version.
