Bo Brennan | 28 comments Hello everyone. I’m a reader, writer, and reclusive bat cave dweller who’s learning to use Goodreads all over again after a hiatus to complete my second novel. The writing gets easier, navigating GR doesn’t….. :)

Bo Brennan | 28 comments Thanks a million, Nancy. I’m currently experiencing my final death throes while trying to add meta data to my books. According to urban myth -somewhere in the GRs ether 12 elusive questions exist for completing this quest…..do you happen to know where they might be???!!! :)

Are you a goodreads librarian, Bo?

message 8: by Bo (new)

Bo Brennan | 28 comments Not that I'm aware of, Nancy! But the librarian group are just trying to explain to me how to do it. :)Somewhere in the reviews section......

I'll tell you how -- it's really easy. First, click on your book and act like you're going to write a review (or go to the "edit review" for the one you've written).

Second: Scroll down until just past "private comments," where you see "edit book metadata" on the right.

Third: click on that, and that will take you to the metadata screen, where you can click away to your heart's content.

try it-- let me know.

Bo Brennan | 28 comments At the risk of seriously looking like a plank, Nancy, do I need to put my books on my 'read' shelf or something?

message 11: by Bo (new)

Bo Brennan | 28 comments I can't review my own books, that's just wrong! :/

No -- I just tried it on a book that's on my "tbr" pile and it worked the same.

Bo Brennan | 28 comments I haven't put my own books on any of my shelves. Do I need to shelve them first?

Ah! That may be why you're having trouble accessing the metadata. You don't have to review your own book, but the metadata page goes through the section where you would write a review. That does not mean you have to write a review.

Go try shelving one and let me know if you can get through to the metadata page.

Bo Brennan | 28 comments Nancy, you're a star!

I just shelved one of my books as 'tbr' and now I can see it!

Thanks a million! :)

message 23: by Bo (new)

Bo Brennan | 28 comments Thanks, Mikebeak! I like to batten down the bat cave to finish my books. It worked out great this last few months - missed most of the wicked winter weather and emerged pasty faced in time for spring. :)

Thanks a million, Donna. I think it was more an operator problem than a technical problem. I'm a bit of a techtard. :)

Wendy | 581 comments Thinking about all the above complications you authors have. Goodreads needs to add a permanent shelf for Authors. From a non-author perspective, putting your OWN book on a To Read shelf is silly. With computer technology they can "lock it" to Authors Only.

That's a grand idea, Wendy. I'm all for making life simpler. I actually broke into a sweat at the mere thought of reviewing my own books. Thankfully, I only had to shelve them to complete the meta data in the end. But,now they're on my TBR list... all I've got to do is work out how to get them back off again! :)
