((Okay.))
"No, no! Nothing wrong with you competing for Kahea; it's just that no one knows you." The boy stammered and turned to the room, looking for a subject change. "Here's your main bedroom, and off to that door is your closet and bathroom." He motioned for Brian to look around.
"No, no! Nothing wrong with you competing for Kahea; it's just that no one knows you." The boy stammered and turned to the room, looking for a subject change. "Here's your main bedroom, and off to that door is your closet and bathroom." He motioned for Brian to look around.
"Well... I mean... The other competitors will think you're a bigger threat. What do you mean? Who knows you?" the boy realized he really shouldn't have been questioning the stranger but didn't back off.

The boy took the pants and nodded. "Actually, the pants were all that needed to be fitted. The queen guessed your shirt and shoe size." He turned to leave. "Anything else?"

A few minutes later the boy came back with an armload of clothing. "Here you go." He set it in the closet. "I'm Brendan. Do you want information on what you're to do tonight?"
"So they'll make some speech about Princess Kahea coming of age and then they'll have the contenders come up one by one. It's not that big of a deal, but it is a first impression on the Council. You'll want to follow the others leads." Brandon finished putting away the clothing and looked Brian up and down.

"I don't know exactly. Just make yourself out to be a leader. Dominant. They're looking for a king, not a servant." Brandon sighed lightly, chewing on his lower lip. "You'll have to be careful around the other guys, though. They're violent."
"Let's hope so," the boy muttered. "Okay, are you ready to head down for dinner? The announcement ceremony begins afterward."
Inside at the dining table, Brandon led Brian to an empty space at the table the rest of the competitors were seated at, waiting to see Kahea come out to the royal table before the servant rushed off, leaving the other men to stare at Brian.
"Who're you?" a large, dark haired man grunted in question to Brian, tilting his body to face him.
A growl formed in the raven-haired man's throat but he suppressed it. "I'm Kai. We don't know you."
"Actually, I do," Mersjif slid into the bench next to Brian. "We met last week."
"Actually, I do," Mersjif slid into the bench next to Brian. "We met last week."
"Hello again foreigner," Mersjif teased back, leaning in his seat as the crowd was hushed and Kahea walked out. She was decked in a gauze dress that left little to the imagination. Her body was covered in blue and gold paint that would smudge of she was touched, and she offered a small smile to Brian before taking her seat at the royal table.
Kahea watched, looking across each person at the table Brian was sitting at as the queen took her seat and servants began coming out with trays to serve food.
Kahea didn't eat much, mostly just picked at her plate until they brought a course of soup around. It was freezing with the ceiling an open concept and her wearing so little, and she spooned the soup into her mouth, glancing at Brian though she practically felt the entire room's eyes on her.
After everyone finished eating and their place were cleared, the queen and Kahea led each other to stand up on a small stage where two modest thrones sat, along with enough seats for the contenders to sit once they filed up, though for now the queen and her daughter stood. The Queen gave a short speech about the how honorable it was to even try for Kahea's hand, on and on until she invited the men to file up onto the stage and introduce themselves to the crowd.

Kahea fought the beaming grin forming on her lips, instead frowning as one of the council members spoke up. "That's nice enough, but we need a king. Not some lovesick kid." And others muttered their agreement.

"Why would we want to make friends with he human scum? We have big enough troubles with rival packs," a citizen shouted from the back, and Kahea stiffened at the mention.
A collective gasp grew around the room, and Kahea winced. "You're human trash? You can't marry the princess!"

"But that does not mean you are worthy of Kahea!" Shouts of agreement clouded the room and Kahea growled softly. A councilwoman stood up and shushed them. "Let the kid try; if he gets himself killed it'll be his fault."
Kai took the other side of the stage off, brushing so lightly against the back of Kahea's dress that it didn't muss the paint, but she stiffened and her mother began another speech and all the girl heard were snippets. 'Good luck', 'don't harm Kahea or the other contestants', 'Let the competition begin tomorrow!'. A councilman then stood and wrapped a strange looking necklace on the princess' neck so she couldn't shift. It made her feel weak and she closed her eyes for a moment. "You feel like a human?" he chuckled before leaving the stage.
Kahea opened her eyes and dared a look at Brian, seeing a flash of annoyance -even anger?- cross his face, and she prayed it wasn't at her. She wished she could stay with him that night, but as her and the queen were escorted out of the dining hall, she wasn't even allowed to pass Brian to look at him closer before she was brought back to her room, on the opposite side of the mansion from the contenders rooms.

Brandon finally caught up to Brian in the hallway on the path back to his room. "How did it go?" he asked, stepping forward to open the door to his room for him.

"I heard about the confusion at your presentation," Brendan told him, lingering in the doorway. "Um, it's against the rules, but... There aren't any competitions tomorrow. I could see if a meeting for you and Princess Kahea could be secretly arranged."

"Huh." Brendan was confused, but knew it wasn't his business to pry. "Well, alright. Can I get you anything else?"
"Sure thing." Brendan then disappeared back out the doorway, making to hurry back.
