Will Once (willonce) | 3772 comments Not an iphone but I have a related problem with my android phone. If I switch the wifi settings on, the phone is constantly searching for a wifi network which helps to run the battery down faster.

But if I switch the wifi settings off the phone drags all its updates and info from mobile phone reception which uses up my data usage allowance.

So the optimal solution seems to be to switch the phone wifi off when I leave the house (to save battery) and to switch it back on again when I am home (to save mobile phone data costs).

Mobile phones will be great when they're finished.

Faster and more reliable that mobile phone and you can eat them when you've finished with them ;-)

Will Once (willonce) | 3772 comments Geoff - that's helpful thanks. I'll make that change.

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments It's like every piece of technology, it's all there so long as a) you know what you're looking for and b) you know what it's called.

Whenever I look at a modern smartphone I always remember the short story, I can't remember whether it was Heinlein or Asimov, where there was a meeting of the military and one of the big wigs discovered mental arithmetic and the others were astounded and couldn't keep up on their pocket calculators.

I hope I won't live long enough to see that happen, but I have a horrible feeling I will, if I haven't already.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I know the story you mean Geoff, its Asimov. Not sure what its called though.
