Read this in high school and although I greatly under appreciated it then, I still quote it till this day. Probably now one of my favorite books. It is about government, a metaphor for several countries. Tough but good read."

I didn't really get a 1984 feeling from it, but there were social politics and things. I read it because I heard it was based on a real social experiment.

message 162: by Angelica (new)

Angelica | 5 comments Currently reading Mitch Albom's The First Phone Call From Heaven. I didn't even get yet in the middle of the book but feels like I've had too much of it already. Albom's books are too moving to the point that a shallow description about a certain lose makes you wanna shout in pain. Nevertheless, it'll never leave you with nothing to hold on. Inspiring. :)

message 197: by J. (new)

J. | 8 comments I'm nearly done The Devil's Dictum, after plowing my way through 3/4 of it over the weekend; if anything else I read in 2016 beats it for my book of the year, I'll be shocked.

The book revolves around a mystery taking place in the capital of the USA in 1946, except that it's an alternate-history version of America, where pirates scared away the Mayflower (which settled in Haiti instead) and founded America themselves. It's absolutely bonkers and I've loved every minute of it so far :D
