The plot has flaws here and there, but it is still interesting enough.
I love a book because it is fun to read and I can keep on reading after some pages.
If I dislike a book, I will not waste my time reading it, unless the book is the last book of a series.
But everyone has every right to what they feel about a book. For me, it is a waste of my energy.

No, I'd have to agree with you. My friend recommended it to me, but I was really disappointed when I actually read it- it lacked that special quality that grips me and I found the characters all quite... meh.

I'm not sure why, but I tried reading the Hunger Games and just couldn't. The writing throws me off every time I try to read it.

I think there's also sort of a love square in Red Queen, because there's Maven, Cal, and I think her buddy Kilorn is going to be a love interest (view spoiler) , and because he hates Cal. It's a good indicator there's a love triangle if the guys hate each other within seconds of meeting.

Lol Mare woud have loved Jared from

Yes the red rising parallels were ridiculous

I agree I thought it was a great book so why did you not?

Mare was such an annoying, indecisive, whining main character! It felt like all she did during the whole book was wander the castle with that guard, thinking,’ I’m the little lightning girl, life is so hard, oh the angst, blah blah blah.’ All of this made me feel extremely unsympathetic towards her. The fact three guys were simultaneously in love with her made everything worse, because this is just abnormal. Different people have different criteria for their love interests, which is shaped by their experiences, so how come three completely opposite guys want her? It’s not normal.
The evil stepmother thing I could see coming from the beginning. I mean, how can you concoct a freaking rebellion without a mind reader finding out?
Also Cal’s ‘Moral dilemma’ for continuing the war was ridiculous. Why not straight up admit he doesn’t care for his people as long as his family is n power? But that couldn’t have happened, of course , because Aveyard obviously heavily favors him. By the way, that’s a bad thing. Your story should come naturally, Shoving a pairing down readers throats isn’t professional.
The thing that irked me the most was that the whole ‘cool bending powers’ was ripped off from Avatar the Last Airbender, a show that had more character development, deep and complex issues that this whole book series ever had.
In the end, I would like to point out that this wasn’t the revolutionary, original book you all are obsessed about. It’s just a mash up of the most famous , original ideas . Sure, it was readable , but it didn’t deserve all the hype.
