What was the last book you read of this genre? I am reading the Ian Rutledge series by Charles Todd (a mother son writing team). The book is set just after WWI. I am not sure what to read next, continue with the series or start another. I like the main character, subject matter and plots so far but I am wondering about whether the series follows a certain formula. I like to have the main characters in the series have a plot that progress from book to book. Not that I haven't read some that don't but I feel less satisfied. I guess I like to see them grow in their lives. Not just find a new romantic interest with each book. Etc. How about you. Also I am not feeling like I am learning about the time with this series. Another place and time is the setting but history doesn't seem to be a part of it that much. This is the second book in the series it may be okay to give another try considering that they are entertaining enough and intelligently written.

I am now on Legacy of the Dead. I have decided to complete this series after a hiatus reading a series on Alfred the Great.
