Karsyn (imzadi) New Goal

~ Read a book with the phrase "Devil's Advocate" in a book

filled in 3 til I got to this one. None of the books I've read, or are reading, cover it.

Deedee | 626 comments Using my amazing internet search skills, I found a book that fits:

~ Read a book with the phrase "Devil's Advocate" in a book

Angels & Demons by Dan Brown

Page 90 …your classes.” “Endlessly.” “And you play devil's advocate, I…

Page 453 …His Holiness was elected . . . I was the Devil's Advocate.” T…

:)

Off looking for more books that fit!

Deedee | 626 comments Not the kind of book that interests me, but, my search for "devil's advocate" turned up this book:

Bad Boys in Kilts
Chapter Six:
"And then his little voice had played devil's advocate, saying that maybe it took an outsider ....."

On the other hand, this cozy mystery has potential:
Kilt Dead
p. 263 ""Perhaps she had to pick up groceries," Liss suggested, playing devil's advocate. "Store's in the other direction."
Not sure how p. 263 happens in a book of 256 pages, probably a different edition, maybe this one: Kilt Dead which is listed as over 300 pages

Karsyn (imzadi) New Goal

~ Read a book shelved (listed on the first page of the "top shelves" of the book) as 2000 - plurals and minor spelling variations are acceptable

so far, none of the books (that we're up to date on) are in 2000. 2001, 2002... don't count. We're looking for 2000 only here for this one.

My Hubby is ready to start heading to bed (a long time ordeal here with 2 dogs that need to be taken out [and it's raining], a cat that needs to be fed, His clothes need to be put out.....) so we'll actually get in bed around 11:30, but we'll start to head that way now. LOL. See y'all in the morning!

Vikki | 419 comments Hamlet has the sentence "Worms are the emperor of all diets." Not sure if this would count for the emperor goal.

Kerri (kerrimcbooknerd) | 1200 comments Good morning, all!

I have a book on my TBR list that would work. A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius. It has "2000s" on the first page of it's "top shelves". If no one is reading anything else that would fit, I can pick this one up. It's been on my TBR list for awhile.

Have at it Kerri, no one has taken it yet and I just went through all the read books, and no books were published in 2000.

Karsyn (imzadi) New Goal

~ Read a book where the page numbers add to 21 (i.e. 345 pages = 3+4+5 = 12)

message 565: by Michelle (new)

Michelle V (booksherlocked) | 58 comments Can we read in other languages?
Also, what if the version of the book we have has a different number of pages that the one stated on goodreads?

message 566: by Michelle (new)

Michelle V (booksherlocked) | 58 comments Book Thief has 552 pages. if no one has that goal yet, I can take it...

message 567: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Michelle wrote: "Book Thief has 552 pages. if no one has that goal yet, I can take it..."

Our goal is for 21 ~ not 12 (that's just the example)

message 568: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Yup, Michelle, you can read any language.

When you are looking at books, you can click "all editions" in the center of the page, and you can usually find any and all editions done. Then just mark that edition as the one you are reading. In the event that you can't find the book, when you mark the book as read in the "Anubis Books Read" thread, just put the page count of the book that you read and note that it is different than the book you selected on GR page count.

Jen Sabo | 547 comments Hey guys, I have to read a 6 minute piece today in a class. We have been doing book excerpts. This time I need something that has 3 characters. Any ideas of a good scene featuring 3 people??

I was thinking Night Circus but I can't remember a good 3 person scene. Maybe one with the twins?

message 570: by Michelle (new)

That would be perfect. Plenty of scenes with Poppett, Widget & Bailey (my favorite characters ever, especailly Bailey). The cloud tent scene is good, as is when Poppett introduces Bailey to Widget and tells him more about the Circus.

We have a goal that needs a character who is a necromancer, so it fits for that. Thanks! :)

Oh, and you already completed the Maria book? Sweet!

Don't forget to add any books you've read to the Anubis Read Thread (link in my post a few before this). The format for what info we need is in the first message of mine in that thread.

Great idea!! I like that scene, it has the magic without giving away anything too big.

Karsyn (imzadi) I love everything about The Night Cirucs! My favorite book, EVER!

Hey, Jen! Speaking of 3 people. We have a new goal ~ need a book where there are at least 3 best friends. Any of your Liar series have 3 close friends?

•♥•Tina•♥• Morning everyone. I just finished Kiss of Crimson last night and I am going to start a new book today. I will see if I have anything that totals up to 21 for that goal, besides that I'm not sure if I am any other books that could fit goals! The next few weeks are going to be slow reading weeks for me, I have papers projects and final exams in all of my classes - stressing out!!

That sounds like Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets or Looking for Alaska,

message 579: by Jen (new)

Jen Sabo | 547 comments Karson- all of them would work. There are 4-6 friends depending on the book. Do you need names?

message 580: by M (new)

M Beal | 1680 comments Morning. So I have bought another new book. Sadly I can't read it for TT but I am sharing it anyway. Yes. that is a crocheted dragon scarf on the cover. I plan on making one in purple. i haven't been this excited about a new book in along time.

Yeah, any of the HP would work, but it's easier to take books already finished than read new ones. So, I'll always take the completed books first.

We've completed 1 full set of all 15, so any will do. I'll be back soon with more goals, if you want to wait to see them.

~ Read a book that is in the "The Worst Books of All Time" Listopia List

I'm starting to wonder if we should just start each reading a holiday book like once every week or two. This is our 3rd time with that one.

I don't know if it has enough words. Many of the words are not actual words but stitch abbreviations.

message 593: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Sorry if my posts come kind of sporatically. My laptop is about 5 years old and SUCKS!! I keep having to reset it for my internet to work, plus something is sucking up my RAM and CPU so it runs like crapola.

I have, and use, Widget ~ my gaming PC, but he's hard to use for typing until I can get a wireless keyboard for him. Too many (2) dogs running around to use the wired one. So, just be patient with me sometimes if I say I'll be back and it takes more than a few minutes! :)

I'm HOPING Amazon has a Black Friday laptop deal as great as Walmart does. Then maybe I can get a new one! I hope to get a wireless keyboard soon too.

Those aren't too bad, and I want an HP, but I'm a big laptop person, so I need at least a 15in for my games. If we could get to Walmart, I'd get the 15in for $150, though I really really want the 17in for $250. :) Hopefully some of the bigger size ones will come down at some point, I'm keeping my eye out. :D

message 600: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Woohoo!!

The wireless keyboard I've had my eye on went down another $10 so my Hubby said I could get it!! :) Regularly $40, I got it for $20. Woohoo! Bought my Hubby a little something something and me some pens (love pens) so we could get free shipping. Be here next week, hopefully before the holiday! :) YAY!! :D
