Books between 501 and 650 pages = 60 points
Books between 651 and 800 pages = 80 points
Books between 801 and 900 pages = 100 points

Karsyn (imzadi) Welcome! Team Anubis is open.

If anyone wants to change their shelf name to reflect the team, just let me know, otherwise I have what y'all signed up with. If you haven't set your shelf, please do so. I'm looking at not seeing a shelf for ~ jingles & Maritza.

I've sent out friend requests to each of you. I'm working on my own basics of a spreadsheet, so I'll be back in a bit. Just to warn you, I'm chatty, so feel free to talk as much as you want.

Looking forward to playing with y'all.

Hey Karsyn... we're going to give one with the scripts (as we did in tower teams III) plus the goal tabs... still on the making though... but, feel free to use your own

Oh, I'll wait on that for my main one, since y'all do such a great job on making them. :) I'm just setting up parts of mine (I do multiple tabs) with the shelves of team members, so I have everything in one place.

Karsyn (imzadi) Hi Anubis team! Glad you have you join us here. I have to say a big thank you to Sonia again, who gave me Team Anubis after learning that The Mummy (and The Mummy Returns) are my absolute FAVORITE movies! So excited! :)

My name is Karsyn, and I'm your fearless captain. :) I'm in my late 30s, married to my High School Best Friend. We've known each other over 23 years, and have just celebrated our 11th "together" anniversary. I'm in a small town in NC and can't wait for our first snowfall!!

I'm blessed with a ton of time to read, so when the challenge gets going, I'll likely be a book of day (or more) type person, though I'm going to TRY not to push myself too much. I tend to get burnt out after about 70 books in a 4 week range, and I don't want to get burnt out this time. We'll see how great we are doing though, that will make a difference! :D

I'm virtually always online, or can be. Except for when I'm sleeping, I'm pretty much always right next to my computer. That means you can get in touch with me at anytime, either through this thread or by messaging me.

I'm a Kindle and audiobook person. My Kindle is always within reach, and I love to listen to audiobooks before I go to sleep at night. I read most genres, if the book sounds good to me. Genres I won't read are a smaller list and include ~ New Adult, Chick-Lit, religion, Classics, and most Non Fiction. I don't tend to read the same books everyone else is reading. I won't be taking part in the BOM or BR threads, so it's perfectly ok if y'all don't as well. I just am not into most popular books.

Besides a reader, I'm a big gamer. I built my own gaming PC in Feb, and if I'm not reading, I'm playing games. I hope to find a good mix of reading and gaming, so I'm not missing out on my games. :) Currently I'm back on another Skyrim kick.

And that's me. As you can see, I'm VERY VERY chatty. So if y'all talk to me, I'll be chatting right back. :) I do get quiet if I have quiet team members, hopefully y'all won't mind my chattiness.

On one last note, if you need to leave the team at any time, please just let me, or a NBRC Mod know, that way I'm not chasing after you all the time to put books on your shelf. Things happen and come up, so just keep us updated, is all I ask! :D

jingles Hi, I'm jingles. I participated in the last Tower Team challenge and really enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to getting started.

I did set up my shelf - sorry about that! I thought I had taken care of it already. Here is the link:

ttiv

I usually read a lot; however, due to some changes at work and some things on the home front, I've really slowed down the last few months. I, too, am an audiobook lover. I listen at work when I can. At night (usually late) I read from my Kindle.

I'm really glad to be part of the team, and looking forward to chatting with you all about all these wonderful books.

message 19: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Welcome jingles! Glad to meet ya!

Thanks for the shelf, I got yours all marked down!

Looking forward to playing and chatting with you.

Hi guys thought I had a shelf set up but not. I love this team name it reminds me of a character on Star gate. I live in NYC and i'm kind of in a reading funk right now even though I have a couple of library books I need to get through. I look foward to clearing up some kindle books with this challenge. Above is my shelf name.

Karsyn (imzadi) Welcome Maritza!

Thanks for the shelf, I'll get it added right now. All shelves have been added, well except for Michelle, still waiting on her. WOOHOO!!

Kerri (kerrimcbooknerd) | 1200 comments Hello, teammates! I'm Kerri and I live in Ohio with my husband, two kiddos, and three cats.

I'm more of a book a week type of gal, mostly because of work and kids. I love reading and just recently got back into it more full force. I'm excited for this challenge because I think it'll push me back into reading even more! I have quite a few books on my bookshelf that need to be read.

Anyways, I look forward to getting to know everyone and to kicking butt at this challenge :D

message 26: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Welcome Kerri! Nice to meet ya!

Any book helps, so we'll appreciate anything you are able to read. I do hope the challenge helps you get to more. They always make me do more, and I have a bunch coming up. :)

message 27: by Deedee (last edited Nov 26, 2015 06:26PM) (new)

Deedee | 626 comments Hello everyone! Deedee here. I live in Georgia with my husband and my medically fragile son. I also have 2 daughters who live nearby and whom I see at least weekly. My children think they are southerners because we raised them here in Georgia. Husband & I think we are transplanted northerners because we lived the young parts of our life in the Maryland/Pennsylvania area. (youze guys instead of y'all)

I've kept records of my reading since December 2000. I average 14 books a month, sometimes as many as 19 books in a month, sometimes as few as 10 books in a month. 30-40% of my reading is fantasy / science fiction; 20-30% is non-fiction (mostly history); 20-30% "literary" fiction (Leo Tolstoy, Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, John Steinbeck, and so on). The remainder of my reading consists of mysteries, chicklit romances and other lighthearted contemporary novels. The past 2-3 years I've added "young adult" novels -- mainly the fantasy young adult novels but a few of the mainstream ones as well. I am usually reading 2-4 books at a time --- after 60 or so pages I'm usually ready to go and "visit" another story.

Anyways .... hello everyone! Looking forward to getting to know everyone better :0)

message 28: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Welcome Deedee, nice to have you here.

I've lived most of my life in the south (FL) but still consider myself a northerner (West PA). But "y'all" is one thing I have adapted, I never was into the whole youze or you'ens. I think I was too young when I left there (13) to have picked it up, thankfully. :D

Hi everyone!
great to see some familiar faces and new ones!
I am your moderator mentor (i.e. go to person) if there is anything your captains can't answer or need help with, so I'll float around, but my team is Bastet. The other Egyptian teams are your "sister teams" so feel free to go and visit them and share book recommendations, memes, or just chat!

jingles Good morning, Team Anubis! I'm glad to see you all are as excited about this team challenge as I am. I can't wait to get started!!!

I'm off now to check out the goals. Has anyone else looked at them yet?

message 32: by jingles (new)

jingles Karsyn - I'm kind of worried about my team shelf. I thought I had set up my team shelf when I signed up for the challenge, but I guess I didn't. My concern is that the shelf I have set up now - that name might not be the same name as that I put on the google sign up sheet. So the moderators might be seeing a different shelf name for me.

Am I making sense?

You are. Don't worry. When Team Anubis spreadsheet is up, we can change the name there. And by we, I mean mods or captains :D

message 34: by jingles (new)

jingles Okay, great! Thank you, Sonia. I just couldn't remember what I had originally put on my sign up sheet for a shelf name. LOL

message 35: by Karsyn (last edited Oct 20, 2015 06:57AM) (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Morning y'all!

Nice to wake up to some chattiness! Just so y'all know, I'm a late riser, so you'll start to see me in the mornings usually in between 9-10am EST.

I understand ya, jingles. No worries. You can make it whatever you want and if it's wrong on the main sheet for the automatic stuff, I'll change it. So you're covered. I also changed mine. If you (or anyone) want to change it again before we start, just give me a heads up so I can change it. No changing after we start. :)

Yeah, I looked over the goals briefly last night. Crazy how many there are. I'm looking forward to those, rather than the points from the BR, that stuff got a little out of hand last time! :)

Morning Maritza, enjoy work! Does everyone here work? What do you all do? Do you enjoy your work?

Lovely to have you as a mentor Karen!! :D

Yup, what Sonia said. :) That's me and my LOOOOOONG posts, I'm typing away.

message 38: by jingles (new)

jingles Good morning, Karsyn! I like the idea of the goals. I'm just not sure how it all works. Do we get points for each goal our book meets? I browsed through the info again, but didn't see anything about it other than there would be goals. I may have missed it though.

For work - I work for a small company doing accounting work. I like it a lot. Through parts of the year it's very slow, and then other times, it's utter madness around here. Right now, I am focused on end of year stuff, so it's kind of busy. This is the part of my job that I don't particularly like, but it's a necessary evil. Lol

It's a little after 9am in my part of the country (southern US). What time is it where you are?

message 39: by Karsyn (last edited Oct 20, 2015 07:19AM) (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Here's what we know about goals, so far ~

◈ There will be 5 open goals for each team, when one is submitted on the spreadsheet, another will be automatically generated a short time after.

◈ Some goals are harder to get than others. So, every two weeks we will grant a "boon" to trade for a goal to each team.

◈ Boons are not required to be used, but they are not cumulative. Meaning, it will only be valid for two weeks.

◈ For completing goals
For each book read That completes an open goal = 5 points

◈ Since goals are randomized, we cannot prevent repetition. The moderators will keep adding new ones on a regular basis, also, any goal that occurs more than 2 times the number of teams participating, will be removed from the goal pool.

message 40: by jingles (new)

jingles Okay...I remember now. I must have skimmed right past it this morning. Thanks for posting it here.

message 41: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) So, we'll always have 5 goals going, random ones. We can't just pick and choose a goal, we will get goals given to us. From there, as we complete a goal we will get a new one, always having 5 open or 5 that will be open if we have finished the goals quickly.

It's just after 10am here, I'm in North Carolina. I am usually up by 10. I go to sleep late, I have a hard time falling asleep, so while I may go to bed with my Hubby by 11, I'll be awake until 2 or sometimes 3. Thankfully I've been sleeping better the last two days since I did a 24 hr Read-a-Thon. It's been nice to fall asleep at a normal hour. :)

I'm glad you enjoy your work, for the most part, that's always a good thing!

Is anyone else so excited that they have created a TBR for this already. I have an actual tower of books next to my desk. I have decided to branch out in my reading. If you know of any good mysteries/crime thrillers please send me the titles.

Have a good day

message 43: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Wow M, what do you do that you work through the night? It's around 8am for you right now, right?

I'm super excited, but I don't plan out my books. I'm what I call a "Fly-by-er". I pick books as I go. I can never plan, just doesn't work for me. I always have a big TBR in general though, we'll see what catches my fancy as we go along!

Oh man, you HAD to ask for mystery/thrillers? You've come to the right person. Gonna check your books. Be back. ;) (Mystery/thrillers are my favorite genre, if I had to just pick on!)

message 44: by jingles (new)

jingles Hope you get some good rest, M! I've not created a TBR for this challenge yet, though I'm very tempted to :)

Awesome, that sounds fun! Well, as I said, you came to the right person about mysteries! :) I'm just trying to not make my list TOOOOO long. :D

message 47: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Hmmmm, M. We have just a few books in common and the ones we do, our ratings aren't very similar. So, you may not like what I do. But here are some of my favorites for ya (no particular order, except perhaps first few) ~

The Shadow of the Wind & series ~ a mystery about books!
The Great Zoo of China ~ thriller about dragons, Jurassic Park style
The Crucifix Killer & series ~ about a homicide cop, some of the craziest serial killers I've seen in books
Naked in Death & series ~ futuristic NY cop ~ one of the best long running series out there (in my opinion)
Lock In ~ a sci-fi fan and haven't read this yet? You gotta! Description is soooooo lacking, it's a FANTASTIC sci-fi mystery!
Close Your Eyes & series ~ about a previously blind woman who helps solve crimes. To first "meet" her, you could read the Eve Duncan series starting with The Face Of Deception
Sleep with the Lights On & series ~ previously blind helps cops, touch of paranormal
Sweetheart & series ~ female serial killer (a lot of people have been reading this lately)
I Hunt Killers & series ~ son of a serial killer wants to not be like father
The 13th Hour ~ time travel mystery, man can go back an hour each hour to try to save wife
Think of a Number ~ detective type stalking serial killer
Man in the Empty Suit ~ time travel mystery
The Naturals & series ~ teens help FBI solve cold cases
Huntress Moon & series ~ female serial killer

Go to authors with long running mystery/crime/thrillers ~
Catherine Coulter ~ FBI series, some paranormal stuff
J.T. Ellison ~ Taylor Jackson (homicide) & Samantha Owens (medical examiner) series
Kendra Elliot ~ multi series
Matthew Reilly ~ thrillers. multi all action (military type stuff) series, recommend everything he's written!
Nora Roberts ~ especially Blue Smoke, The Witness & The Collector

Ok, making myself stop! I could go on all day. :D

message 48: by Maritza (new)

Maritza (spanishwhispers) | 2241 comments I love the Naked in Death series but am seriously behind.

I am a Registered Nutritionist working on losing weight myself. I just have to engage my will power (which I have but have to keep to the on position).

As for the challenge. I don't like the writing of questions so I won't be doing that. But I love the challenge of completing the goals so am open to reading what fits the goal. Lately i've been reading alot of series and trying to keep up with those. I love the action packed mysteries like Angels & Demons

message 49: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) The Naked in Death series definitely is a long one. I've kept up with it, I'm actually only missing the last novella that was just released. A majority of the books I read are series, so I pretty much stay current on the ones I love, try to keep close with the ones I like, and just ignore the ones I ended up getting bored with. LOL!

No worries about not doing the BOM questions. I won't do 'em either. As long as we are reading and doing goals, that'll be what matters!

message 50: by jingles (new)

jingles I love the In Death series as well. I've been listening to the audios, and I think I'm up to book #13, which my library doesn't seem to have in audio format. No worries though, as I can read it on my Kindle. It just happens to be one of those series that I love in the audio format.
