Karsyn (imzadi) Hi James! Typically we're to go with the edition that we are reading, or in the case of an audiobook, the "default" page count.

Yay Victoria! :D I'm just waking up, so I'll be back in a little while with a new goal. I have just an hour and a half left for my circus book, so that'll be done soon as well.

I forgot Terry Pratchett died this year. I always loved his grim reaper/death character in his discworld books.

Vikki | 419 comments Just got to Ohio a few hours ago. I will read some books that could be used to complete some open goals but I am not sure how much reading I will get done here so I don't want to commit to completing them. How is everyone doing today?

message 710: by Kerri (new)

Kerri (kerrimcbooknerd) | 1200 comments Good job, team! I'm looking forward to the day off tomorrow. We're having a low-key Thanksgiving since my mom is working and both my husband and I have to work the next day. I'm planning on getting a lot of reading done :) How is everyone enjoying their Wednesday?

message 711: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Have a good time Victoria! Don't worry about completing anything, we'll take whatever you are able to do. I know most people are going to be busy probably through the weekend. I probably won't get much reading done tomorrow, just because of football. :)

Hope you have a good day, even if it's low-key Kerri. A lot of reading is always a good thing.

My Wed started off pretty crappy. Hubby put in some vacation time so He could take a week off next week. His dumb manager didn't put it on the check this week (which we were expecting) so now we have to wait another 2 weeks for it. Bummer for Black Friday. I was hoping for a sale on the Kindle Fire 8, as my old old old fire isn't holding a charge well. Been a quiet day since then, just been reading. :)

Anyone not celebrate any holidays? My Hubby insists on making a meal. Sometimes I wish He wouldn't, I hate Thanksgiving the most out of every other holiday out there. We don't celebrate, but He likes turkey so He uses it as an excuse to make it. I keep telling Him I do like turkey, so He could make it anytime. :)

I am looking forward to a day of football though, so football is always good, and I'll definitely watch the parade. :)

message 712: by James (new)

James | 28 comments I probably won't be on tomorrow so I'll take the time now to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. Don't worry if you can't get much reading done. Just enjoy the holiday because it only comes around once per year.

message 713: by M (new)

M Beal | 1680 comments Everyone have a happy holiday. I will be working at the shop tomorrow for a while and reading for the rest of the day.

Karsyn (imzadi) New Goal

~ Read a book with parallel worlds

-----

I filled in 16 goals before I got this one! :) It took quite a while to do. :)

For the "Books Read" thread, I've also removed books that I have used for goals, that way when I need something specific and I'm looking through, I'm not looking through books that I've already used. I did delete a few before I realized they weren't on the Mummy Quest. If you happen to notice one of your books missing on the Mummy Quest, let me know.

I need to read A Thousand Pieces of You, so if no one gets to it sooner, I'll probably start it in a day or two.

message 719: by Vikki (new)

Vikki | 419 comments Would Child Thief that James read count for the parallel worlds goal? I noticed that the Narnia Chronicles, Harry Potter series, and Alice in Wonderland series are in the Goodreads "popular parallel world list." In Child Thief, the characters go from the modern world through the Mist to Avalon and back so I think it qualifies.

•♥•Tina•♥• Happy thanksgiving everyone!!

message 721: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) I already used it for a goal, if it did fit. It shouldn't, as I take parallel universes meaning multiple earths, and/or another planet. I don't know about Narnia, but I definitely wouldn't count HP or Alice for that. Some of those books that get on the lists are nuts. Of course if it was on something like that, I'd use it. But yeah, I already used James' book.

Maritza (spanishwhispers) | 2241 comments gm guys hope you all had a wonderful day yesterday. trying to work on BOM Bound and a couple of other books that are due on monday. late fines here we go.

message 723: by M (new)

M Beal | 1680 comments Good morning. I hope everyone had a lovely holiday. Now it is time for my annual black Friday tradition. Book Warehouse Super Sale here I come...right after coffee.

message 724: by Karsyn (last edited Nov 27, 2015 08:26AM) (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) ohhhh M, that sounds like fun! Enjoy, and let us know what goodies you got! :) I'm so bummed about the money mess-up with my Hubby. Was going to update to a new Fire ~ only $34.99!! Oh well, I'll live. Mine still works, but it's not holding much of a charge anymore.

Morning all! How is everyone? Been 3 weeks with the puppy now and we seem to be down to one middle of the night run outside for her. YAY!! Hopefully soon she'll get through the full night. Now, if we can only teach her that being a morning doggie is NOT a good thing. :) My Hubby has to get up early (5-6am) for work. But the big dog and I always go back to sleep. Now the puppy is up and yapping away. I found if I bring her back to bed with me, she gives me a little more time to sleep. :D

Finished up a shorter book yesterday. Onto the parallel worlds book today. How's everyone feeling about the goals? We could use our next boon anytime if y'all think we should get rid of one.

Current Goals

~ Read a book shelved (listed on "top shelves" of the book) as 2000 - (Kerri)
~ Read a book with a red, pink or orange dress on the cover
~ Read a book which has the main location as a bus, train, or other road based vehicle (M)

Ahhhh, sorry you are sick Michelle. Good for the reading tho! :D Hope you get better soon!

message 728: by Kerri (new)

Kerri (kerrimcbooknerd) | 1200 comments I'm almost done with A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius by Dave Eggers . I should be finished by tomorrow, I think. Reading the BOM, as well, as slowed me down! Both are great books, though.

I hope you feel better soon, Michelle!

message 729: by M (new)

M Beal | 1680 comments I will get on that book now. Hugs Michele, the sick is brutal this year. Feel better soon.

Karsyn (imzadi) New Goals

~ Read a book where the world ends
~ Read a book with no labeled chapters

From the FAQ:

Q. For the goal where the world ends, how literal should that be? Does the world need to completely end and people need to leave and live in space or on another planet? Or for example, if a virus wipes out most of the population, but some people survive and live off the land, would that work?
A. The virus wiping populations works. Or a zombie apocalypse. But the disaster has to be in the book. For example, Station Eleven or After The Ending work. But the Kate Daniels series doesn't, because the world changing event happened BEFORE the first book.

----
What does a goal "Read a book with no labeled chapters" mean? The book has no chapters at all or are the numbered chapters ok?
A. No chapters at all. So, not numbered or named. For example, we did a BOM earlier this year - Love Letters to the Dead - which was like that

Karsyn (imzadi) New Goals

~ Read a book published when its author was already dead
~ Read a book with the phrase "It takes two to tango" in a book

-------------

About author goal, from FAQ ~ book has to at least have new content or been something not previously published. It can not just be something that was published when they were alive and republished after their death.

message 739: by Vikki (new)

Vikki | 419 comments I read Othello earlier which was performed in 1604 but not published until 1622 (Shakespeare died in 1616) so this could complete the "book published after author's death" goal.

That works, Victoria, thanks! As far as I know, of the books we still have to use, there's no world ends, so thanks for covering that one!

Be back with new goal!

Karsyn (imzadi) New Goal

~ Read a book where MC is a virgin (at the beginning)

------

any of the chick-lit books cover it? Thousand Pieces of You is one (it's subtle) but I already used it for parallel worlds.

message 745: by Vikki (new)

Vikki | 419 comments Does "at the beginning" mean she can't be a virgin at the end?

message 746: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Nah, I don't think so Victora, I think they just mean she needs to be one at one point during the book. YAY, I'll use Yellow Star and be back. :)

message 748: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) After half of the day, for various reasons, we have a new goal. Bad news is it's a repeat of a goal we already have ~

~ Read a book with the phrase "It takes two to tango" in a book

Y'all wanna use a boon for one of them?

The good news is that it took so long because when I was able to fill goals, I kept being able to fill them. I lost track of how many, but it was around 12ish.

message 749: by Vikki (new)

Vikki | 419 comments Here is a link from Amazon to some books with "it takes two to tango" in the book:

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_st_rev...

There is a lot of romance as well as some thriller/mysteries on the list so maybe there is a book that someone has already read or is on their TBR list. Double check that the excerpt on the right that has the exact phrase "it takes two to tango" because sometimes it picks up books that leave out or add a word.

I found a book on my TBR list so I can read one if needed...

message 750: by Vikki (new)

Vikki | 419 comments Has anyone started a book for the "teach, teacher, coach or help in the title" goal? Here are some I have read before the challenge or on my TBR list if anyone would like to read:

The Help
Help for the Haunted
Help Thanks Wow: The Three Essential Prayers
Rich Dad, Poor Dad
The Wisdom of Psychopaths: What Saints, Spies, and Serial Killers Can Teach Us About Success
Unfinished Business: What the Dead Can Teach Us About Life
What Makes Olga Run?: The Mystery of the Ninety-Something Track Star Who Is Smashing Records and Outpacing Time, and What She Can Teach Us About How to Live
Lies My Teacher Told Me
Teacher Man
The Piano Teacher

Maybe reading the "Teacher's Edition" or "Teacher's Guide" of a book would work to. There are also a lot of romance/BDSM with the title "Teach Me."
