M Beal | 1680 comments Congrats Karsyn!!

It is quiet in my house for once and I am taking the evening to pick up a chunky one. 700+ pages. I have a pot of tea and a warm blanket.

Karsyn (imzadi) Thanks again ladies! L)

Morning all! I'm sooooooo tired of this not getting sleep crap. But, gotta deal. I typically only get 7 hours of sleep at night, so even though I get up late, I don't sleep much, but this 3 hour crap sucks. :/ I'll get used to it, I hope.

Kerri, your book sounds good for the goal, that way we'll keep mine for something else, since it can cover a pretty big variety with it being about learning and teaching and dogs and all that jazz. :)

Y'all are doing great on books. I'm sorry I'm lacking so far. I'll get into a pattern I hope! I'm working on a few books right now, which I typically never do. Usually it's just two ~ one audio and one Kindle book. I've got my audio book, but I've started 3 Kindle books! This is because I most want to read one of them, but it's the shortest, the 2nd one is for another challenge and the 3rd one is the puppy book because I wanna get some knowledge behind me again before I start training.

She's settled this morning, and I've already been reading some. More to it! :)

Jen Sabo | 547 comments How often does our spreadsheet get updated?

message 305: by Jen (new)

Jen Sabo | 547 comments Also, I got a book on audio. So I'm hoping to finish two books by Wednesday!

message 306: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Whenever I go to update it, Jennifer. :) So, a few times a day. Typically when I've come online and see that someone finished something. I just finished my book a few minutes ago, so everything is updated as of now. :)

**NEW GOAL**
Read a book where the edition you are reading was published on the 28th of a month

Will post it in post 7 too. Books completed have dibs, I'll go through all the books look at the published dates. I'm sure it's not covered, but we'll see. Weird we got 27th and 28th.

message 307: by Karsyn (last edited Nov 09, 2015 09:45AM) (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) M ~ was the version of Casino Royale that you linked the one you read? Because that has a published date of the 27th we could use. Ditto on the Eco book, it has a date of 28th.

message 308: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) That reminds me y'all, make sure you are linking the versions that you are reading, just for this case. There's all kind of goals that the version you read will matter.

Are y'all ebook or "real" book readers? Besides Jennifer S and myself, any audiobook fans?

message 309: by Maritza (new)

Maritza (spanishwhispers) | 2241 comments real books is my first option, ebook second and audio books not for me.

message 310: by Kerri (new)

Kerri (kerrimcbooknerd) | 1200 comments I'm the same as Maritza, though the book I'm currently reading is on my Nook. I just prefer having the actual thing in my hands.

Me! I love, love, love audio books!!!

message 312: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Yay, another audio lover! I only discovered that I liked audiobooks in 2013, and since then I've steadily listened to more and more. This year I've listened to just over half of my books on audio. Other than that, I'm a Kindle reader. Though I have a small bookshelf of real books, I've read 1 real book in the past 3+ years and that's just cuz it wasn't in ebook format.

Yes they are, I am a recovering book hoarder.

message 314: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) That's awesome M, just wanted to make sure before I used 'em.

Back soon, with new goals!! :D

•♥•Tina•♥• I mainly read on my kindle but every once in a while I still read real books! Kindle books are just so much more convenient and less expensive! But I do miss always having the real thing in my hands.

Karsyn (imzadi) New Goals

~ Read a book with the name of the tarot card "The Emperor" in the text or title
~ Read a book that is in the "Best Love Stories" Listopia List

Oh wow! Thanks for doing all that. I was thinking of it as a magical update that happened at midnight or something. Haha

I love my audiobooks. I always listen when I'm at the gym or walking. But other than that, I like the real books.

I prefer "real" books :). I've never "read" an audiobook - not sure I have the equipment to do it anyways. My husband has a kindle. He's trying to convince me to go kindle so he lets me use his to get me used to it before getting me my own (not sure I want one). I've wound up using his kindle for those books that are $1 for kindle $20 for "real" book & for free classics that I don't have easy access to at the library. Most of the books I read I either get from the library or a secondhand book shop.

Currently 100 pages in The Great Zoo of China. Finally, after 100 pages of exposition, some ACTION. Am also reading The Ark: The Ark Book One which is really good, too bad I started it before the challenge did. After I'm done with The Ark: The Ark Book One all my reads should count for something in this challenge.

I could read Tuck Everlasting in one night, it's only 130ish pages and is in the "Best Love Stories" but we wouldn't get many points for it (5).

message 320: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) You Kindle lovers, what kind do you have? When did you get it?

Oh it's no troubles checking the spreadsheet. There is an option for it to be automated, but I prefer hands on. I used to do my own thing until they came out with the automated one. I enjoyed what I did, but this is way easier. :)

If you wanna read the short one for the goal, that's fine Jennifer. Don't worry about size, it's all about if you wanna read it. I'm reading my 2nd novella just because I am SUCKED into this series and I MUST READ it now!! It's only going to get me 15 points total for 300 pages, but don't care. LOL! I. MUST. READ. THEM!!!! I'm all about reading what you enjoy, no matter the points! :D

Glad you got to the action Deedee. I don't mind the set up in that book, since I love the characters so much. I just love everything about that story, it's so fun. I hope you love it.

I was the opposite of you all. I was the one to get my Hubby into the Kindle. I have had one since the Kindle Keyboard and when that died and they were no longer making them I upgraded to an older Fire. So He actually has a new Fire than I do, when He had to upgrade His Keyboard.

•♥•Tina•♥• I have the fire as well! I love it, best decision I ever made. I also read on the kindle app on my phone and computer so I always have my book with me :)

message 322: by jingles (new)

jingles I have a Kindle Paperwhite. I've often thought about getting a Kindle Fire, and probably will when this one kicks the bucket.

•♥•Tina•♥• Does anyone know if rereads counts for goals?

message 324: by •♥•Tina•♥• (last edited Nov 09, 2015 04:00PM) (new)

•♥•Tina•♥• If it does count I want to read All He Ever Dreamed for the holiday goal, would that work Karsyn? It doesn't look like it's during Christmas time but it is and that's a big part of how they come together. Or does it have to be a more obvious holiday theme?

message 325: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) I wasn't sure about my upgrade either jingles, but at the time they ended up giving me an older refurbished one for only $70. It was going to cost me $40 for a refurbished paper white, so I made the leap. I'm so glad I did. It's sooooooo awesome. I hope to upgrade to an 8in at some point, as mine is so old it can't run newer games, though Word Chums is about the only game I play on it.

Yup, re-reads count, as long as it's been at least 6 months since you last read it. That book sounds fine for holiday. It's ok if it doesn't look outwardly that it's Christmas, it just matters that it is. If there's any question about it, they'd ask about the story and how it matches, not worry about the cover.

Yeay! I've been wanting to reread that one and I don't have to spend any money :) I think it could also count for the #12 quest for "finding out the truth" because the main guy finds out that the heroine has loved him for years. Would that count?

I would prefer to read "real" books but I like reading a lot of books at the same time and I am not at home much so it is more convenient for me to read eBooks now. I started with the Kindle app on my iPhone and my iPad and my husband was going to sell his Kindle Fire since he never used it, so I use that now. I actually finished my first audiobook the day before the challenge started. I wanted to try out listening to it while driving to and from work to be able to "read" more books during the challenge. I think I will do autobooks for classics and longer books but I still prefer actually reading the book. For complex books, I actually like the eBooks better because I can hightlight passages with info I know I will need to know later in the book.

Karsyn (imzadi) New Goal

Read a book where a character is an alcoholic or has a drug problem

------
Will be back when I'm more awake. :)

message 332: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Morning all!

Both animals are back asleep, but I'm up and awake for the day. :/

Got a little more sleep last night, but she's waking up every 3 hours. Until we get her a crate, (ordering tomorrow) she's been sleeping with us as she won't leave my side. Even though the transition to the crate is going to SUCK, I look forward to getting some (hopefully at some point) more sleep! :)

The only bad thing about this ~ it's seriously cut down on my audiobook time. I, usually, take a long time to fall asleep, so I'd listen to my audiobook for a few hours each night. Now, I'm falling asleep fast (yay) but not reading much (boo). I've listened to just 2 hours in the past 3 nights. Pre-puppy I would have listened to 2 hours in the first night and been done with the book by now. Ah well. I am going to listen to some today. So far it's boring me, and I wanna move on to something else. :)

How are y'all today?

message 333: by Maritza (new)

Kerri (kerrimcbooknerd) | 1200 comments Good morning, ya'll! I hope everyone has a good Tuesday.

Karsyn, I'm so happy the puppy thing is starting to work out :) Hopefully you'll be able to get back on a better sleep schedule soon.

message 337: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Hey Victoria, when you get a chance can you put your newest book onto you TT shelf?

Thanks!

message 338: by Vikki (last edited Nov 10, 2015 03:19PM) (new)

Vikki | 419 comments Karsyn, I'm glad that you are trying to keep the puppy and hopefully the crate will help. I just finished my second audiobook today-- The Importance of Being Earnest, which was hilarous to listen to. I tried to read this in high school and couldn't make it past the first few pages.

Have any of you read Shadow and Bone ?
Would this complete our "Read a book where a character gets into shape" goal? They do make Alina run/learn how to fight but I am not sure how "in shape" she is going to get cuz I am only half way through but she is still a stick-thin little girl right now, lol.

Hope everyone's day is still going okay.

I haven't read Shadow & Bone yet (plan to) but that sure sounds like getting in shape. I'll ask, just to make sure.

Thanks for getting it on your shelf, back with a new goal! :D

Karsyn (imzadi) New Goal

Read a book where a character is a witch/wizard

message 342: by Deedee (new)

Deedee | 626 comments Currently reading:

The Weight of Heaven
The Ark: The Ark Book One (doesn't count for challenge)
The Great Zoo of China

And, I'm thinking that The Great Zoo of China will fit:
~ an Egyptian Quest
08 ~ Read a Book: features life or death situation, features creature not of earth (alien, mythological).

message 343: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Victoria ~ no, it sounds like S&B won't fit for it, unless she changes her diet and loses weight. Not just a training and learning how to fight thing.

Yup, GZoC definitely fits for that quest, Deedee. :)

message 344: by Vikki (last edited Nov 10, 2015 06:12PM) (new)

Vikki | 419 comments Hmm... for the witch or wizard goal, does it count if other characters call a magic character a witch even if they call themselves something else? In Child Thief, the Lady of the Lake (Queen Modron) is called a witch by the Flesh-eaters as well as her sister Ginny Greenteeth and her daughters. In Shadow and Bone, the peasants that fear/hate the Grisha call them witches.

For the character that gets in shape goal, I finished a book right before the challenge where the main character gets in shape (as well as others) using Bikram or competitive yoga called Hell-Bent: Obsession, Pain, and the Search for Something Like Transcendence in Competitive Yoga Hell-Bent Obsession, Pain, and the Search for Something Like Transcendence in Competitive Yoga by Benjamin Lorr if someone else would like to read it. I can look through my martial arts books and see if I can find where one someone out of shape started martial arts and is now a superhuman, lol. But we might have to do a boon for this one.

352 pages
Completed 11/10/15
No current goals met
Maybe mummy quest
She Gets trapped in the freezer and the air holes plugged ..... Life or death situation

•♥•Tina•♥• I read All He Ever Dreamed today so we can check the holiday goal off :)

message 347: by Karsyn (last edited Nov 11, 2015 04:09AM) (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Victoria, I went ahead and used Shadow & Bone for witches. Hopefully it'll be ok for it.

Morning y'all. I don't know how much sleep I'm working on right now, but it's not a lot. YAWN. I am ordering a crate today and I can't WAIT for it to be here. The transition of getting her used to it will suck, but in the end it'll be so nice to sleep! :)

Getting the spreadsheet updated now, back with more goals soon! :)

message 348: by Karsyn (last edited Nov 11, 2015 04:18AM) (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) New Goals

~ Read a book that is in the "The Most Disturbing Book Ever Written" Listopia List
~ Read a book where a character is a socialite

------

We had received another one and Jennifer's book was able to cover it for a yellow cover, so YAY!

I'm going to LOOK at the listopia, just to see what's there, but I doubt I will read anything on it. Would anyone else? Hmmmm, I read more on it than I thought. I don't think Hunger Games should really be on the list though. But what do I know? LOL! I'll keep looking, see if there's anything I'd read.

message 349: by Kerri (new)

Kerri (kerrimcbooknerd) | 1200 comments I've started reading Beloved, which is in that list. It's not terribly long, so I should be done in the next day or so :)

message 350: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Awesome, yay Kerri! I'm not one to read negative stories. I saw The Giver was on there and I'm still pissed off that I read that awful (to me) book. :/
