jingles Karsyn - just when you have time, can you double check my two finished books for the Mummy Quest?

When I posted them in the completed thread, I listed both of them for the Mummy Quest mini challenge, but I don't see them on the spreadsheet.

I might be missing something though, or I might be doing something wrong.

No biggie, but I just thought I'd check in case I'm not doing it correctly :)

They are fine jingles. Cristina is going to take over doing some of the spreadsheet for me, including the Mummy Quest updates, since I have so much going on right now with helping out and my puppy and just trying to read. :) She wasn't able to access the spreadsheet, but hopefully can today, so it should be updated tonight. If she doesn't have the time to get to it, I'll update it all tonight.

jingles Thanks, Karsyn! I just mainly was checking to make sure I was doing things correctly, so it's really no biggie. As long as I know I'm on the right track, and no points are lost for the Tower Team challenge, I'm good :)

Thanks so much for your help!

M Beal | 1680 comments I am almost finished with my current book. About 50 more pages than I will sleep.

message 355: by Deedee (last edited Nov 11, 2015 09:16AM) (new)

Deedee | 626 comments Some of our fellow goodreads readers got all political, and put Going Rogue: An American Life by Sarah Palin as #78 and America by Heart: Reflections on Family, Faith, and Flag by Sarah Palin as #96 on The Most Disturbing Book Ever Written List.

•♥•Tina•♥• Everything for the mummy quest should be updated on the spreadsheet, but if something looks wrong please let me know!

message 357: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Awesome Cristina! I'll take a look after lunch, and I just finished up a book so I gotta see if it can fit somewhere.

People definitely have weird definitions of disturbing Deedee. I wouldn't have put Hunger Games on it. To each their own, I guess. That's why I stay out of politics. :)

message 358: by Vikki (new)

Vikki | 419 comments There were a lot of dystopia/ futuristic books on the Most Disturbing List and I like those kind of books.

message 359: by Jen (new)

Jen Sabo | 547 comments I just finished a book. There were multiple socialite characters, but I started this book before we got that goal so I'm not sure if it could count.

message 360: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Jen wrote: "I just finished a book. There were multiple socialite characters, but I started this book before we got that goal so I'm not sure if it could count."

We can use any book for any goal at any time, so no worries that you started it prior to the goal. YAY!!

Be back with new goal. :D

Karsyn (imzadi) New Goal

Read a book with a guitar or other musical instrument on the cover

I have this, but I don't know when I can get to it, probably after weekend at least, between Iditarod & Slay Ride

Guidelines for Posting Questions on Tower Teams IV

Before posting Any Question regarding the Challenge, Please do the following:

1. Read the RULES
2. Read the Goals FAQ We keep the first posts regularly updated with questions and answers

Still have questions?

FOLLOW THE HIERARCHY
The communication chain is:

Member --> Team Leader --> Mentor --> All Mods

What does this mean?

It means that if you make a question that is on the rules or Goal FAQs you may get re-directed to those posts.

It also means that members cannot go over their team captains/co-captains (team leader for short) directly to the mods.

We over 300 players, and so our captains and co-captains help team members by:
- Answering members questions
- Make the bridge between members and mods
- Also, there are extra threads for taking care of team issues, goal doubts, and general questions on the captains group. So they have access to a lot more info than the members.

But my team captain is a mod and she said she needed to check with the others

Well, yes.

Mods are like mom and dad. If one of them makes a rule about an issue, the others don't say otherwise. We respect each other and don't step into each others toes. So. If something was said before, it will be checked if memory fails.

Also, mods are like doctors. Sometimes they need a second opinion before taking a decision.

Mods also "hire" external consultants. Some of the goals were suggested by members, so we need to check what was their original idea before making a ruling.

Mods are humans too. Meaning we make mistakes. But, we assume them, and try to fix it as quickly and painless as possible. Also, we have real lives and real live issues too. This is a very loved hobby, but just that. A hobby. Unfortunately we don't get paid for all this volunteer work! ;).

But my team is too chatty and info gets lost
Ask your team leaders to put it on a visible place. You can also PM your team leaders.

I ask a question and my team captain only answers it when I'm sleeping
Please remember that there are different time zones, and people have demanding schedules too. Relax. This is supposed to be fun. Not stressful. Is a hobby.

I don't like my team or my captains
Is there a particular reason? Do you wanted a chattier team? Or are you not into chatting at all? We try to pair teams taking in account their preferences, but sometimes it doesn't work well. If you prefer quiet, You can focus on reading and just check in to post your books. If you prefer a chatty one, you can always try to make the team to chat.

If you think your team captains are not doing their job, compile a list of things - and this is not book or personal taste - with objective points and PM your mod mentor.

If you have issues with your mod mentor.. then compile those, and PM the mod account. We'll work it out.

Karsyn (imzadi) Morning all!

I slept well, overall, last night. So YAY for that! Been up and about a few hours, just doing my normal stuffs.

I can start the goal for the guitar today. I was able to fit it for my Iditarod quest.

How's everyone today? What are y'all up to?

Kerri (kerrimcbooknerd) | 1200 comments Good morning, all! Sitting at work waiting for lunch time so I can finish up Beloved. Hope everyone has a good day :)

•♥•Tina•♥• Good afternoon everyone :) I hope you all are having a great day! I just finished reading Dirty English and I really liked it, now just trying to decide what's up next for me.

•♥•Tina•♥• Question about this goal:

Read a book where a character is an alcoholic or has a drug problem

I just read Dirty English and a secondary character abused the main heroine and has a drug problem towards the end, would that count or does it have to be a main character?

message 369: by Jen (new)

Jen Sabo | 547 comments I'm halfway into the book of the month, have working on The Lying Game series. Though the books around around 300 pages, we they pretty quick reads (I think it's because it's mostly dialogue and really basic diction).

I lived through my exam this morning, so now I am on to reading again. Hoping to finish the BOM and next TLG on Saturday. Maybe sooner.

Be back with new goal. :)

Yeay!!

message 373: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Audio lovers ~ got anything for the famous actor? I don't think I have anything right off the top of my head that I plan to get to, but after I listen to this audio, if no one else has gotten to it, I can re-read Ready Player One or search for something else.

Some famous actor narrators I can think of ~

Wil Wheaton ~ RPO, Armada, & more
Tim Curry ~ 7ish of the Lemony Snicket series
James Marsden (don't know what books)
various Star Trek actors, for ST and other sci-fi

I believe there's a list on listopia. Let me know if anyone wants it, otherwise I'll plan on it fairly soon.

There are a few others. I've been meeting to read The Handmaids tale for a while, but I'm not sure if I can get that version.

Maritza (spanishwhispers) | 2241 comments sorry I don't do audio books. will try to tackle some other goal.

message 376: by Vikki (new)

Vikki | 419 comments Almost done with King Lear audiobook narrated by Sir Donald Wolfit who was a famous Shakespearean actor. I got like an hour left. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donal...

message 377: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) No worries ladies! I definitely can handle it. I might give Leviathan a try, it's read by Alan Cumming. If I don't like it, I'll fall back onto one of my Wil Wheaton's. I have one of the books he's written on audiobook which I've not read yet, maybe I'll see how short it is.

The audio I'm on is long, and I don't like the story, so it'll be a few days til I get to it, but I don't mind doing it. :)

Oh hey! Even better. Awesome Victoria!! :D YAY!

That's what I get for letting my post sit while I talk to my Hubby on Word Chums and I don't refresh before I post. :D

•♥•Tina•♥• Would a microphone count as a musical instrument? Trying to decide between a few books I wanted to reread today and one of them has that on it so if it works for that goal I'll read that one!

message 380: by Kerri (new)

Kerri (kerrimcbooknerd) | 1200 comments Just finished Beloved. That was an intense book. I can kind of see why it made the "Most Disturbing" list. Now to pick something new!

Nope, I'd say not. The mouth would be the instrument, the mic is like an amp. :)

I got it covered, I'm 25% into a book with a guitar on it that I've been wanting to read.

Awesome Kerri! Be back with a new goal!

Karsyn (imzadi) New Goal

~ Read a book where a character's first name starts with the letter B

Anyone have this in any of the books already completed?

message 383: by jingles (last edited Nov 12, 2015 06:02PM) (new)

jingles I checked my finished books, Karsyn, but no "B" first name.

Yes! My second book, The Lying Game, has Becky!!

message 385: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Thanks for checking jingles! Yay Jen! :) Off to get a new one again. :)

Funny thing is I thought there was on in that book, I looked at it, but the blurb didn't say. I've never had any interest in it, so it's weird I zeroed in on it!

message 386: by Jen (new)

Jen Sabo | 547 comments I'm not super into them, but they have been quick reads. It's like when I watch Full House on TV, it's okay but not my favorite. Haha

But, I'm in the middle of another one now and the sme character is there. I just figured I would use the first book first.

Karsyn (imzadi) New Goal

~ Read a book which is set in a hospital

anyone? Anything?

We got another one but I was able to cover it with one of Maritza's books. :)

message 388: by Jen (new)

Jen Sabo | 547 comments Mental hospital!

James read One Flew - not sure if it's been used yet though.

I don't think it's been used. It was set in a mental hospital?

Yay Victoria! Back to the spreadsheet!

message 392: by Jen (new)

Jen Sabo | 547 comments Yep. It happens to be one of my favorite books, I've read it twice. Haha

message 393: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) New Goals

~ Read a book with a yellow, orange or golden dress on the cover
~ Read a book with the name of the tarot card "Wheel of Fortune" in the text or title

My novella series uses tarot cards, but so far, not the cards we've been given. :( Gonna have to get to the Arcana series by Karen Amanda Hooper for all that tarot stuff. :)

message 394: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Jen wrote: "Yep. It happens to be one of my favorite books, I've read it twice. Haha"

Never read it, or if I did in school, don't remember it. I'm not much of a classics person. No Shakesphere for me either. What a diverse group of readers we have! :)

message 395: by Vikki (new)

Vikki | 419 comments I looked at the All About Goals FAQ and they had a question similar to our Emperor and Wheel of Fortune goal:

Under Goal Types T-Z:

Q. For goal "Read a book with the name of the tarot card "The Magician" in the text or title
does that "the" also count? Or can it just be "Magician"
A. It needs to be "The Magician" as we are looking for the name of the card (although it may be in a completely different context, it doesn't have to be a card that is being referred to)

So we could read a book that has "The Emperor or "Wheel of Fortune" in the title and that would work. For example:

The Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer The Emperor of All Maladies A Biography of Cancer by Siddhartha Mukherjee

or

The Wheel of Fortune The Wheel of Fortune by Susan Howatch

Does anyone have these words in the title of a book they are reading? Or reading a book where "Wheel of Fortune" (like the game show) or a person referenced as "The Emperor" is referenced in the book?

message 396: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) I don't have anything like it so far. Which stinks cuz my books have had tarot cards, so it might match some of the cards at some point. :) I should probably keep them, just in case.

I'm sure there's some stuff out there, like you mentioned. I have so much I need to get through, I haven't focused on those ones yet. Worse comes to worse, I'll read the Arcana series. They are novella books that are after the individual cards.

The Fool (Virtual Arcana, #0) by Karen Amanda Hooper The Magician (Virtual Arcana, #1) by Karen Amanda Hooper The Empress (Virtual Arcana, #3) by Karen Amanda Hooper The High Priestess (Virtual Arcana, #2) by Karen Amanda Hooper The Emperor (Virtual Arcana, #4) by Karen Amanda Hooper The Hierophant (Virtual Arcana, #5) by Karen Amanda Hooper The Lovers (Virtual Arcana, #6) by Karen Amanda Hooper

message 397: by Jen (new)

Jen Sabo | 547 comments Darn, it's no fun to be at a stand still with goals.

message 398: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) well, we'll get our first Boon soon, we can decide if we want to use it. I have the musical instrument, I should finish that tomorrow. I don't read a lot of girlie books, but there's gotta be a lot with the dress covers.

We'll get 'em! As long as we have the books read, that's what counts, cuz we can use what we read as we get new, easier, ones in.

message 399: by Vikki (new)

Vikki | 419 comments Maybe one of these books:

A Confederacy of Dunces - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Confe...
Wikipedia
A Confederacy of Dunces is a picaresque novel by American novelist John ... to the goddess Fortuna as having spun him downwards on her wheel of fortune.

In his novel, The Club Dumas, Arturo Pérez-Reverte includes a wheel of fortune in one of the illustrations that accompany the text.
