Vikki | 419 comments I don't know if just a reference to the Wheel of Fortune would count but:

William Shakespeare in Hamlet wrote of the "slings and arrows of outrageous fortune" and, of fortune personified, to "break all the spokes and fellies from her wheel." And in Henry V, Act 3 Scene VI[4] are the lines:

Pistol:
Bardolph, a soldier who is loyal and stout-hearted and full of valour, has, by a cruel trick of fate and a turn of silly Fortune's wildly spinning wheel, that blind goddess who stands upon an ever-rolling stone—
Fluellen:
Now, now, Ensign Pistol. Fortune is depicted as blind, with a scarf over her eyes, to signify that she is blind. And she is depicted with a wheel to signify—this is the point—that she is turning and inconstant, and all about change and variation. And her foot, see, is planted on a spherical stone that rolls and rolls and rolls.
Shakespeare also references this Wheel in King Lear.[5] The Earl of Kent, who was once held dear by the King, has been banished, only to return in disguise. This disguised character is placed in the stocks for an overnight and laments this turn of events at the end of Act II, Scene 2:

Fortune, good night, smile once more; turn thy wheel!

I was planning to do the audiobook Hamlet tomorrow. I do not have Henry V on audiobook though. There are only 10 Shakespeare plays that are above the 20,000 word count requirement and King Lear, Hamlet, and Henry V are in those 10.

M Beal | 1680 comments I started reading a book with a yellow dress on the cover. Will have it done by tomorrow.

message 403: by jingles (new)

jingles I am on my phone and so can't search it out right now, but it is possible that the book I am reading would have "the Emperor" in the text. I am reading Fall of Giants by Ken Follett if someone wants to check it through Amazon or Google Books. Otherwise I can check it tomorrow morning when I get a break.

Woohoo! Awesome M! :)

message 405: by M (new)

M Beal | 1680 comments would it be possible to update the current goals in message 7. I might have another that fits but I don't know

message 406: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) I don't think that would count, Victoria. I think they are looking for the exact phrase, even if it's not about a tarot card. I'll ask tho, get a 2nd opinion.

Karsyn (imzadi) M wrote: "would it be possible to update the current goals in message 7. I might have another that fits but I don't know"

I'll do that right now!

Karsyn (imzadi) Current Goals

~ Read a book where a character gets into shape
~ Read a book with the name of the tarot card "The Emperor" in the text or title
~ Read a book that has a guitar or other musical instrument on cover ~ Karsyn Reading
~ Read a book with a yellow, orange or golden dress on the cover ~ M Reading
~ Read a book with the name of the tarot card "Wheel of Fortune" in the text or title

message 410: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Yup, they are looking for the exact phrase for the tarot cards. So, it has to be "wheel of Fortune", "the Emperor" and so on.

message 411: by Vikki (new)

Vikki | 419 comments Oh, well. It was worth a try.

message 412: by jingles (new)

jingles I just found Wheel of Fortune in the text of Murder on a Girls Night Out. It is referencing the game show. If that will work, it's a short cozy mystery I can read pretty quickly.

Just let me know.

That'll work. Doesn't have to be the tarot card exact, but has to be the phrase. That's perfect!

message 414: by jingles (new)

jingles I should probably mention I have Murder on a Girls Night Out on my Kindle, so that is how I found it.

Unfortunately, i can't search Fall of Giants right now because it's the audio version I have, and not a print or ebook copy.

Vikki | 419 comments Shakespeare: Hamlet: Act 4, Scene 3, Page 2

Worms are the emperor of all diets. We fatten up all creatures to feed ourselves, and we fatten ourselves for the worms to eat when we're dead ...

message 416: by jingles (new)

jingles Great, Karsyn! I will start it tonight.

message 417: by Jen (new)

Jen Sabo | 547 comments Good morning all! No class today means I can maybe finish a book today.

message 418: by M (new)

M Beal | 1680 comments Morning all. Karsyn I finished the book with the yellow dress. Woo Hoo for long commutes. Now off to bed.

message 419: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Awesome M!

Morning all! I am soooooooo sleepy, again. Was up all night with the puppy, got 2 hours or so this morning after Hubby got up. It's gonna be a long day!

I'll get us a new goal as soon as I wake up a little more. :)

message 420: by Karsyn (last edited Nov 13, 2015 10:53AM) (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Sorry, just getting around to goals. Have had a busy morning with puppy.

M, could you put the yellow dress book onto your tower shelf when you get a chance?

message 421: by Jen (new)

Jen Sabo | 547 comments Finished another book, now I'm onto the next in the series. This one is about 50 pages longer. But still a quick read. I'm off to read again for a couple hours, hopefully making a dent in it.

I love my 3 day weekend!

message 422: by jingles (new)

jingles I finished my book for the Wheel of Fortune goal, and posted it in the Anubis team thread for books read.

Here is a link in case you need it:

Karsyn (imzadi) New Goals

~ Read a book where the page numbers add to 6 (i.e. 345 pages = 3+4+5 = 12)
~ Read a book where the first word of the text is This

We'll get another one when M links her book. If you get a chance, can y'all check the books you've read, see if any of them start with "This"?

message 424: by M (new)

M Beal | 1680 comments sorry, just woke up and added it.

message 425: by jingles (new)

jingles I just checked mine, Karsyn, and unfortunately none of them start with "This".

message 426: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) M wrote: "sorry, just woke up and added it."

No worries! :)

Thanks for checking, jingles. I did the same thing. It's a weird one. I might just open every book on my Kindle. LOL!

message 427: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) New Goal

~ Read a book that is in the "Best Book Boyfriends" Listopia List

that's all y'all!

message 428: by Kerri (new)

Kerri (kerrimcbooknerd) | 1200 comments No books beginning with "This" as of yet :(

message 429: by Vikki (new)

Vikki | 419 comments I think The Fell Sword that M just read may fulfill the emperor goal (read the summary).

The only book I found so far with the first word of the story being "This" is The Good Soldier by Ford Maddix Ford

message 430: by M (new)

M Beal | 1680 comments You are correct Victoria. I thought the goal was complete so I didn't add it. If not go ahead and use it.

message 431: by jingles (last edited Nov 13, 2015 06:48PM) (new)

jingles I'm sorry to be so dense, but could someone please explain this to me?

~ Read a book where the page numbers add to 6 (i.e. 345 pages = 3+4+5 = 12)

Are they talking about a book in which the page numbers added together equal a number that '6' can be divided into?

message 432: by M (new)

M Beal | 1680 comments jingles. it is the number you get when you add them together.

message 433: by Karen ⊰✿, Fiction Aficionado (new)

Karen ⊰✿ | 16594 comments Mod
Just ignore the example in brackets, that is just to show what the goal means.
So for 6, you may have 321 pages, for example, (3+2+1) or 600 pages, or 501 etc..
I hope that helps! The generic example in the goal text seems to throw some people :)

message 434: by jingles (new)

jingles Gotcha! Thanks, M and Karen.

message 435: by Karsyn (last edited Nov 14, 2015 04:27AM) (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Morning all!

Sorry I wasn't here last night (thanks for answering the question, Karen). I've been so exhausted I went to bed at 9:30. Good news is though I woke up a bunch, I did get a lot of sleep as well. So YAY, finally! :)

Awesome to hear about The Emperor, I'll go do that in just a bit. Can you get me a page number for where the words are seen in the text together, M? Now that I see Deedee finished Great Zoo, I remembered it's in there as well as they have Emperor dragons.

Karsyn (imzadi) New Goals

~ Read a book where golf is played, or there are golf clubs on the cover
~ Read a book where the author uses a suffix (Jr, Sr., III)

•♥•Tina•♥• Hello everyone! Sorry I haven't checked in recently. Weekends are crazy for me. I love the goal for the best boyfriends list, I'm going to take a look at that one today.

In my book it is page 14 where the emperor is mentioned the first time.

•♥•Tina•♥• I'm going to start kiss of midnight tonight and it's on the best book boyfriends list. Yeay!

message 440: by James (new)

James | 28 comments Well it's been about a week but I finally finished another book. The month of November is definitely not a month where I have extra free time. It seems to be split between studying for finals or my part time job.

•♥•Tina•♥• I get you James, I've been going through the same thing this month. I'm shocked with the small amount I'm reading lately.

message 442: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) No worries James. Everyone gets busy!

How's everyone else doing? Everyone having a good weekend?

The puppy's crate arrived today. Cross fingers that she does ok in it!! She's in there now, and she's whining, but not doing her yappy bark yet. Here's to hoping, since she's right next to the big dog, that she'll take to it easily and I can start getting more sleep! I ended up taking a nap today and I NEVER do that. :/

message 443: by M (new)

M Beal | 1680 comments 11 pm on a cold a rainy night and home all by myself. Pick up a book. Crucifix Killer. "hmmm this looks like a good one." I think. Read a little of it. Cat knocks something over in the kitchen and scares my socks off.
Thank you Karsyn for the good book suggestion.

message 444: by Maritza (new)

Maritza (spanishwhispers) | 2241 comments Good Morning all finally finished my book, it was a laxy reading week for me.

message 445: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Sorry I'm late checking in today. I'm so tired!

Puppy crate night did not go well. :( I stayed out here (living room) so I wasn't bugging Hubby with getting up and down. I was able to sleep for about an hour during the night, and maybe another 2 after Hubby left for work. I'm pretty miserable, but we'll get through it.

Today is football day, so no books, at least during the 1pm game. I have a short novella I'm still working my way through. Darn puppy messing me up! I did finish a long one yesterday.

message 446: by jingles (new)

jingles Hi team! I finally finished my big book, and have posted it in the completed thread.

Karsyn - this was not a BOM, but I did participate in a buddy read for it. I've not posted my final thoughts, but will probably tomorrow.

If a buddy read counts for extra points, just let me know, and I will post links here for my participation messages.

It was a good book, but looooong. I'm glad to have it behind me, and now looking forward to some light reading.

message 447: by Vikki (new)

Vikki | 419 comments I think we only need one more goal to complete the team Mummy Quest Challenge: 09 ~ Read a Book: features end of world, features a contract. Read a Dystopia. Suitcase on cover, destroyed world on cover. OR "Problem" in title.

message 448: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) jingles ~ buddy reads thankfully do not count! When they counted before, people went a little nuts on them. Now we have the goals instead.

Yup, task 9 is the only one we have left. I'm going to look through, see if any of the ones that are doubled up could maybe fit for it. It ends today, so I doubt anyone will be able to fit anything in. I'll look to see if I have something super short that fits.

message 449: by Vikki (new)

Vikki | 419 comments I am Legend is a Dystopia. I think it was used for #3-- legend but I think there are a lot of #3's now.
