Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments Rebecca Thanks for updating your post. I have updated the spreadsheet, you have 25 points and we have a new goal, a book with a Horse on the cover.

message 203: by [deleted user] (new)

KAY. I have a huge bin with books that I own and library ones. Gonna look through

No it does have to be a Horse but that is a cool cover. If you don't find anything I know I have a few Cowboy books with horses on the cover I can dig out if necessary.

message 206: by [deleted user] (new)

can't find any. Why can't it be a bird. I have a gazillion books with a bird on cover.'

message 207: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments LOL I think there is goal with wings on the cover, who knows we may get that one. There are almost 1000 options and they are random so we could get repeats. Read what you want to and I am sure they will be slotted into a goal eventually.

I really don't understand the spreadsheet. On the captain thing, it said all members view, but I can't. Am I supposed to view it or not? (P.S. Co-Captains/people who can edit you could make anyone with link view.)

Ghost in the Stacks Did you click the Athena Spreadsheet in message One?

message 211: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes.

Ghost in the Stacks Its a sharable link, so it should work...let me see

message 214: by [deleted user] (new)

Worked.

Ghost in the Stacks Awesome

Ghost in the Stacks So I thought I would start this:

A little about me.

I am in the Big state of Texas, I run a face to face book group, and an online one here.
I have (1) daughter, age 13, who, according to my husband, complains I have turned into me.(However I didnt hear any complaints during the dating process...and wedding...and 13 years of marriage)
However, I have to admit, she is wayyyyyy nerdier then I am.
I honestly dont listen to alot of music...I am still stuck in the 90's. I listen to audio books on my comute to and from work, and that is all I need. The Music goes on, when my daughter gets in the car.
I mostly read Horror, and Thillers, And Scifi...cant help it I have a thing for Fictional Serial Killers.
I am not a fan of Romance...but I have enoigh friends that read them to make up for me NOT reading them.

You sound a lot like me Abbie, except you didn't like Night Circus very much. :) We have a lot of books in common, but I'd like to recommend the best serial killer books I've read ~ the Robert Hunter series by Chris Carter starting with The Crucifix Killer. His books are some crazy deranged serial killers, it's great! I also read the Huntress Moon series recently and found it an enjoyable take on female serial killers.

My library does not have it...just looked. Next time I go to Half Price Books, I will have to see if they have a copy.

I AM GONNA FINISH THE MARTIAN. I DO NOT CARE IF IT TAKES ME TILL 3:00 AM. I WILL.

INTERSTELLAR VS MARTIAN!! SILENCE UNTIL FINISHED.

message 220: by megan (new)

megan | 1492 comments I finished From Rocket Boys to October Sky last night. If the girls/boys/men/women goal still needs to be met, it should work.

Megan | 1607 comments Megan wrote: "I finished From Rocket Boys to October Sky last night. If the girls/boys/men/women goal still needs to be met, it should work."

I've added that in for the goal, :) thanks. Could you do me a favour and add that to our Athena Read book thread when you get a mo? :)

New goals are:
°Read a book set in your home state or country
°Read a book that has been on your "too read shelf" for more then 1 year
°Read a book where the author's first name is one of the top 100 female names in The Netherlands according to nameberry (http://nameberry.com/popular_names/Ne...)
°Read a book where the kindle version is 500 or more pages
°Read a book with a Horse on the cover

Hope you finish the book Rebecca, I know what its like staying up all hours to finish a book. :) It's such a curse sometimes when you get addicted to reading a book isn't it!

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments About me. I live in Northern Ireland, not too far from the Giant's Causeway. I have two boys aged 9 and 10. They are a handful. It is project time for the youngest so we spent Saturday at the museum. They both love to read They are big fans of the Skulduggery Pleasant series and Artemis Fowl and my eldest loved Lord of the rings, he recently finished the Deptford Mice books The Dark Portal (The Deptford Mice, #1) by Robin Jarvis and is reading The Martian and listening to Welcome to Nightvale

My music tastes are as eclectic as my taste in books, I will listen to must things with exception of some of the really weird Jazz stuff and Death Metal, not a huge fan of country but it was almost the only thing my Mum played when I was a kid.

With books I will give most things a go but I don't read much non fiction, horror or Sci Fi although I did read a lot of all of those when I was younger. I tend to read mostly romance from various genres but I do love a good mystery and thrillers. I also spend a lot of time reading cookery books and failing to recreate the recipes.

Like Abbie I quite like a good serial Killer book now and again, a favourite of mine is Chelsea Cain's Archie and Gretchen series, first one is Heartsick (Gretchen Lowell, #1) by Chelsea Cain

I would love to be able to listen to audio books but they just don't work for me I get easily distracted. I mostly read on my kindle but I have a lot of old paperbacks I am trying to get through.

message 223: by Stacey (new)

Stacey (boydsmom) | 1377 comments I finished Head Over Heels by Jill Shalvis which actually works for the Netherlands name goal. :) Who knew? It also takes place in my country, but I'm guessing since I live in the States, that goal probably means in my state, no?

Thanks Abbie for joining the Co-Captain squad! I think we'll be good with the three of you in charge. :)

I just found Heartsick too, I just had a few friends who were reading it, and they got me hooked. I have read the first two so far, and am hoping to get to the third one soon

They are all so messed up it is like reading a train wreck. I have been impatiently waiting for a new one. Her other series One Kick (Kick Lannigan, #1) by Chelsea Cain is very good too.

message 228: by [deleted user] (new)

I have to read. I needs to get off this so I can read. This is addicting.

Glad you enjoyed it, I like her Shopaholic series (I must catch up on that )and some of her other books , I am not sure on a YA book though, that genre is hit or miss with me.

Audrey Jane | 1815 comments Finished my first book for the challenge, posted it on the concerned thread.

About me; I live near Brussels, Belgium and I'm a die hard chocolate addict. I majored in history last year and some of my favourite subjects are forensic medecine and military history. One of my favourite places on Earth so far is the Loire valley in France (closely followed by Galway, Ireland), when I was younger I wanted to be a guide on historical locations or in musea. My favourite genres are historical fiction/romance/mystery and urban-fantasy. Oh, and I'm a book sniffer, can't help it :)

❀Tea❀ wrote: "I can't wait for next book!
I'm already thinking it's time to reread them :) "

Me too Tea! I want to know more about Sebastian's past and family ;) In Who Buries the Dead I was a bit sad for him.

message 232: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments Audrey Jane Galway is one of my favourite places too, I just hate the long drive. It is such a beautiful city and so compact. The traffic is crazy. My grandmother loved Brussels, she used to go on trips to Belgium and The Netherlands. I have been to a lot of lovely places in France but never to the Loire Valley.

Are you using 25000 or 25,000?

It probably has the comma as decimal separator. Try 25000
