Francisco Ponce palmero | 107 comments Sorry about my English please, I'm more or less new and I'm impressed of the knowledge and passion for the genre here, and for the activies that you suggest, the Reading challenges for example, now I have a question for you, how many hours do you read in a day? it's a great curiosity I have

Greetings from Spain

I generally read between 3-8 hours a day, depending on whether or not I'm working.

message 3: by Randy (new)

Randy Harmelink | 1639 comments For me, it varies from 15 minutes a day to not being able to put the book down...

I'm actually in the middle of a book right now that I really don't feel like picking up again. So my reading time lately is down.

(shan) Littlebookcove (littlebookcove) | 137 comments I'm quite lucky enough to be able to read at work when not on call. so about 4/5 hours or more. Mostly though that is about 3 hours a day.

message 5: by Missy (new)

Missy | 199 comments Not nearly as much as I would like. 20 minutes a day helping my daughter read, about 30 minutes for bedtime story and about 15 minutes for me before I fall asleep.

message 6: by Kat (new)

Kat Desi (katdesiwrites) | 12 comments As much as possible. I read during commute to work, during breakfast, during lunch, during downtime at work, during commute back home, during dinner, sometimes even when I'm at the treadmill and then before bed.

It's a great question and one I don't think I've seen asked.
I try to get at least 1/2 hour to one hour each day to read, more on the weekends.

message 8: by [deleted user] (last edited Oct 20, 2015 11:25PM) (new)

Between two(minimum)and 4(maximum)hours a day. I used to spend 8 to 16 hours a day with reading, but my lazy student days are over now. The last 10 days I worked at least 8 hours a day in a refugee camp.

message 9: by Robert (new)

Robert Mingee (robertmingee) | 776 comments Reading a printed or ebook varies from 1-2 hours a day, more on weekends (sometimes, then sometimes none on weekends). I also have an audfiobook going all the time, which I listen to at increased speeds depending on the narrator, and i get in another 1-2 hours that way.

message 10: by Gavin (new)

Gavin (thewalkingdude) | 118 comments Usually 2 hours, around 100 pages per day.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 957 comments It varies a lot - sometimes less than an hour, sometimes more than four hours. I'd say an average is 1 1/2 hrs

message 12: by Char (new)

Char | 17459 comments I'd say about 2-4 hours per day, on average. I will read during lunchtime and during the evening. I also listen to audio books while working.

message 13: by Anita (new)

Anita (neet413) | 818 comments I have an hour for lunch everyday, and my nose is in a book the whole time. I also try to get at least 30 minutes in at night before bedtime, that can stretch though depending on the book.

message 14: by Holly (new)

Holly (goldikova) If left alone to do what I feel like doing.....I could easily read for 12 hours of the day. This never happens.

message 15: by Monica (new)

Monica Go | 898 comments I think maybe two hours it's the top for me, but it depends on the book; if I'm not busy and I'm loving it even hours and hours. Right now I'm reading so slowly :( all I feel like doing when I'm not studying or working is watching some tvshows..I need heeeeeelp!

message 16: by Erin (new)

Erin (ems84) | 9060 comments Not working I can do a couple of hours but when I am working it's usually just an hour.

message 17: by Gianfranco (new)

Gianfranco Mancini | 581 comments 1-2 hours

message 18: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (stephthebookworm) Before I had a baby, I used to read maybe 1-2 hours a day, but it's been cut back severely for the time being. I try to read for at least 15-30 minutes a day though, after my son goes to bed and before I go to bed.

message 19: by Famine (new)

Famine (wolfcreed) 3 hours, health permitting.

I was wondering if I was the only mother who has trouble finding time to read. I find before bed when the kids are sleeping I can read but I get so tired I'm passed out in about 20 mins. Wish I could find more time to read.

message 21: by sonya (new)

sonya marie madden | 926 comments 30 minutes to three hours depending on how busy I am

message 22: by Leah (new)

Leah Labbe | 53 comments During the week, usually at least half an hour during the day. On the weekends, I try for 2 hours each day.

message 23: by Kate (new)

Kate | 3525 comments This depends on what I'm reading, during the week it might be 1/2-1 hour a day, sometimes I don't get any reading done. I tend to get most of my reading done at the weekend, I've seen myself sit and read for 8-10 hours just to finish something.

2-8 hours a day, depending on the schedule.

message 25: by Francisco (new)

Francisco Ponce palmero | 107 comments It seems reading is your only hobby, do you see movies or tv series? In my case I must have to stop watching films and tv shows to read more

message 26: by Natalie (new)

Natalie Pietro | 134 comments If I'm watching tv I read in between commercials. Try to get reading in whenever I can.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 957 comments Francisco wrote: "It seems reading is your only hobby, do you see movies or tv series? In my case I must have to stop watching films and tv shows to read more"

I'm actually huge into TV shows the past few years. Rarely watch movies for some reason, never in the mood.

message 28: by Ed (new)

Ed (blacksabbathed) 1-6 hours per day.

message 29: by Marie (new)

Marie | 4029 comments 2 to 3 hours a day depending on what I have going on.

message 30: by David (new)

David Brian (davidbrian) | 1673 comments Excluding whatever I'm working on: 0-2 hours per day. It'd be great to find more time.

message 31: by Kev (new)

Kev Ruiz (kevruiz) | 0 comments I have almost give up entirely on TV shows. Previously I watched loads of shows and that pretty much took up my reading time. Since quitting almost all my shows, I manage to fit in a good 2-3 hours reading time in the evenings after getting in from work / gym. On some days I manage to squeeze in about 40 mins lunchtime. More at the weekends depending on time of year and what plans are.

message 32: by Maxine (new)

Maxine (Booklover Catlady) (booklovercatlady) | 42 comments I read 3-4 hours a day and read a book a day minimum. I tend to read 11pm-3am as I'm busy with my book publicity work during the day. I can't sleep without reading first.

#SaveDaredevil #AndAMovie (savedaredevil_andamovie) I read for at least an hour every average weekday. Subway fares have gone up (yet again) recently in my area, so I walk from the train station to my uni campus (~40mins). I'll also get more reading (~20mins) in when I walk from class to class. I'd rather sit and read physical books all day, but out of necessity, I listen to a lot of audiobooks.

Sincere shout-out to all the moms and dads out there who give up precious reading time to take care of us kids (and all the other family stuff). I guess I should get as much reading time in as I can while I'm young!

message 35: by RavensScar (new)

RavensScar I've never tried to time my reading time. I read everyday some days more some days less. I can only estimate the average time I spend reading to around 4 hours

message 36: by Mike (new)

Mike Porter Not enough. Not counting reading the news on the internet or the reading I do at work, I read every night before bed, but nowadays I probably only last 20 minutes or a half hour before I start dozing off.

message 37: by Laurie (barksbooks) (last edited Mar 15, 2017 07:53AM) (new)

Laurie (barksbooks) (barklesswagmore) | 1471 comments I listen to audio for at least an hour or two. Real reading time is limited because I do not have a lunch break and usually fall asleep at night when it's finally quiet enough to read. So 15-30 mins is about it during the week. More on the weekends.

message 38: by Micah (new)

Micah Castle (micahcastle) | 1645 comments Usually between one and a half to two hours during the weekdays, much less during the weekends.

Before the new work schedule, I'd typically read about four hours a day.

Char | 17459 comments Kelly wrote: "30min to about 3 hours usually. Some days I'm just too tired or busy to read, but I try really hard to find some time to read when I can."

I find that I become very agitated when I am not able to fit any reading into my schedule. My temper gets short and my patience disappears.

message 40: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Bea (gekrepten) | 1761 comments I try to read on the train and during my lunch break so it can be about 2 hours more or less on weekdays. on weekends it varies sometimes if a book is grabbing me I will just sit and read whole thing.

message 41: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Bea (gekrepten) | 1761 comments also sometimes at work I listen to audio books, which can be from 3 to 6 hours, on top of my commute reading.

message 42: by Angel (new)

Angel | 48 comments 1-3 hours a day, but yesterday for the first time in forever, I was actually able to have time to read for twelve hours and I was able to read three books and review them. But my usual time is 1-3 hours, which is all the time I can carve out occasionally.

message 43: by Jackie (last edited Mar 22, 2017 08:48AM) (new)

Jackie Munzar (haunted_nostril) | 109 comments About 2 hours if I'm lucky. I used to cram a lot more words into my day before I had my beautiful children: back when I was an angst-ridden, starving, artist and I didn't have a stupid job. Now I mostly cram in the words "yes sir" and "Boys! Please don't jump on daddy's things!"

Jarek "the Mistborn" Dąbrowski (jarekthemistborn) | 25 comments About 3 hours commuting on weekdays and then maybe an 30 min to an hour in the evenings.

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 3047 comments Zero..its awful I know...less writing and more reading.

A writer must read, but, man, when you've got something to get to, then you've gotta get to it! You'll have all the time in world to read when you've conquered it! :)
