Annie Carlisle (anniecarlisle) | 9 comments Sooo.....my book is currently free (please go get it), and I checked my ranking in my categories this morning and one category it said my book was ranked #10 and the other category it was ranked at #34.

What does that mean? Does it mean I'm now an Amazon Best Selling Author? Because technically....I didn't sell the book...I gave it away. Don't get me wrong...I want to say I'm an Amazon Best Selling Author...very, very badly. I just want to say it when it's actually true.

When I logged onto Amazon this morning...I didn't hear any fan fair....no flashing lights....no 'Good Job' or 'Congratulations, You're a best selling author'....nothing. So am I or am I totally reading it wrong? BTW...I took screenshots....you know...just in case. :o)

Thanks for your input....now go get my book!!!

Christina McMullen (cmcmullen) Congrats on ranking! I hope the promo pays off for you. However, no, you are not an Amazon bestseller. To reach that milestone, you will need to be #1 on the paid rank for your genre. Free book promos, even if you rank #1 do not count, but if you rank high enough overall (top 500 or so) you will see sales the following day.

That just means where you presently rank in the free giveaways for today in that specific genre. You probably are included in three or more genres.

It is a good thing, though, to break into those top 100s. It gives you a bit more exposure to those looking for free downloads. You may see your downloads increase while you're in the top 100. I usually do. And that could lead to a wider audience, leading to people who may buy your next book or other books...

Martin Wilsey | 447 comments Originally Amazon would rank the paid and free together. They split them because the books priced at $0.00 were beating the other titles out.
