Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 3595 comments No way to revive this group. The founders became elitists, and where do you go from there? It was a wonderful group, and I'm sad for losing what we had.

Does that mean you are bailing out Scout? It wasn't the founders who became elitest. The founders were RA, Sally, Heidi, Kevin, and Sarah Pi(?). They simply don't hang around GR anymore. It was Bunwat who took the remaining participants to a private group.

message 3: by Carol (new)

Carol | 1678 comments So it's been decided, then? I see names like Emm and a few others that chat occasionally on here. That's ok with me.

message 4: by [deleted user] (last edited Apr 06, 2014 06:50PM) (new)

I think these things have a life cycle. The need that drives people to chat on social media changes. Sally had a couple of kids, RA changed jobs, I managed to sort out my marriage, Jackie the Librarian found her true love...even the man of frequent few words, Felix, isn't around much any more.

There are a few new comers popping their head in, but if there is no activity they won't stay long. The Mods could have chosen to close TC down, but haven't, for the few that still like to pop in every now and then, there is still life left in the old beast. It is just a different beast, more of a sloth.

message 5: by Carol (new)

Carol | 1678 comments Very true Barb and Gail. It is nice to stop in and see everyone. I'm not very chatty in person so I can't keep it lively!

message 6: by Alias Reader (new)

Alias Reader (aliasreader) I'm still here.

message 7: by [deleted user] (last edited Apr 06, 2014 11:39PM) (new)

Yep! Maybe we need a poll?

Is TC Terminal?

In need of resuscitation?

Simply sleeping?

In need or a rocket up the...?

message 8: by Louise (new)

Louise Nice to see some of you still around - I was wondering what happened :-)

message 9: by [deleted user] (last edited Apr 07, 2014 01:12PM) (new)

Lovely to see you too Louise.

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

What the hell ever happened to Kevin?

message 11: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments I follow Kevin on Twitter.

I do like to poke my head in here now and then. It's nice to see you all.

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

Kevin is off saving Kids somewhere on the planet.

message 13: by CD (new)

CD | 1577 comments So if this is the wake, where's the bar and the cold cuts . . .

message 14: by Carol (new)

Carol | 1678 comments sweet! Hello friends! I think TC needs a good housecleaning. Like closing down some gigantic threads and starting new ones.

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

Agreed!

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

CD wrote: "So if this is the wake, where's the bar and the cold cuts . . ."

I am up for a party, though not quite ready for a wake.

message 17: by CD (new)

We could call it an Anti-Wake, or the "TC Wake Up" or . . .

just sayin'

I'll use the party keyboard.

message 18: by Carol (new)

Carol | 1678 comments Party keyboard? I like it! I'll do my Elaine dance.

message 19: by Scout (new)

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 3595 comments What would rejuvenate this group?

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

More chatter. The more people come in and chat, the more it will attract others to join in. We have seen evidence of that already. Although I think I need one of those party key boards, mine is just run of the mill.

message 21: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Hiya! The founders were actually RA and Jackie, I believe. I followed Mindy and King Dinosaur over here because the thread topics were fun.

I'm not spending much time on Goodreads right now. Too much going on...
but it's nice to peek in here every once in a while.

message 22: by Susan (new)

Susan | 6406 comments I do some peeking. There hasn't been anything to add so I refrain from adding.

message 23: by CD (new)

CD | 1577 comments Well, it looks that just mentioning the party keyboard has stirred all kinds activity based on the 'new' posts to several topics that have popped up!

I wonder what would happen if I had pressed some of those special function keys . . . ????

message 24: by Sally, la reina (new)

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
This thread made me cry.

message 25: by Susan (new)

Susan | 6406 comments ::hands Sally a tissue::

Change the title then!

message 27: by janine (new)

janine | 7709 comments Is this better?

As long it doesn't make us sound too much like blood suckers

or

we are eating our own dead.

Yes!

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 3595 comments Fuck trying to revive this group. The 40+ core members left and formed a separate, private, and exclusive group, thereby flouting all the liberal, inclusive ideas they adamantly espoused here.

message 30: by [deleted user] (new)

I am very sorry that trying to revive the group is upsetting you so much Scout. It will never be the same as it once was, but then it was always changing as various people came and went.

message 31: by Susan (new)

Susan | 6406 comments Perhaps anger is a rejuvenating tactic?

message 32: by [deleted user] (new)

Happy happy to you Zardoz. Easter morning here.

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

Happy Easter Zardoz.

message 34: by Louise (new)

Louise Happy easter! My kids stuffed themselves silly on chocolate eggs (having 6 grand parents = lots of treats) oh and spring is here! First day in a t-shirt :-)

message 35: by [deleted user] (new)

My kids stuffed themselves silly too Louise! Autumn is finally here, I love the cool change. Then spend the rest of the cooler season wishing for spring. :)

message 36: by Mary JL (new)

Mary JL (maryjl) | 250 comments Happy Easter-week! Not only kids stuff themselves on holidays! I went to friend's for brunch--and had three deviled eggs---plus ham and other goodies.

And it has been warm and nice in Nebraska but dry--little snow previously and only one good spring rain.

message 37: by [deleted user] (new)

Sounds like a lovely lunch with friends Mary. I hope the
warm weather continues for you. :)

message 38: by Mary JL (new)

Mary JL (maryjl) | 250 comments thanks, Gail! I will try to post more often--I want this group to continue!

message 39: by [deleted user] (new)

I would like to see this group continue too. I think it is starting to sprout a few green shoots. It just needs a bit of a spring clean. Some of the older, larger threads aren't functioning properly. We need a mod to help out, but the current lot aren't active. They need a cattle prod, or some new blood. Not sure which.

message 40: by Mary JL (new)

Mary JL (maryjl) | 250 comments In one of my groups, to prevent threads getting way too long, the split them up by years--example: What are you reading today part 6 (2013) and then in January, starting a "new" thread with almost the same title--What are you reading today? part 7 (2014).

Threads with lots of activity are limited to a year I length. Just an idea.

message 41: by [deleted user] (new)

Sounds like a good way to handle it. You at least can then trawl back if you remember you had a discussion with someone at a particular point in time.

message 42: by CD (new)

CD | 1577 comments Terminal Coffee isn't 'terminal' yet . . .

It does appear though it could slide off into just another generic chatroulette of topics unless of course those who care renew our association with such hot topics as 'General Fuckery' to name but one.

We have obviously lost some sly dogs and cats to whatever evil they succumbed to or to the general explosion of internet fractal dust.

Since this is a 'Dead Group' topic, perhaps we just need to slay those damn Zombies of yore and move on to newer problems with social network dimensionality such as politics, relgion, sex, drugs, music, or generally all those things Mom told us to never discuss in polite company.

Yeah, I got the party keyboard workin' now!!

message 43: by Susan (new)

Susan | 6406 comments Maybe we need a "Taxidermic Fuckery" thread to go along with the dead group theme.

message 44: by CD (new)

CD | 1577 comments Susan wrote: "Maybe we need a "Taxidermic Fuckery" thread to go along with the dead group theme."

"Bring out your dead - and we'll stuff 'em"

That ought to do it!

message 45: by [deleted user] (new)

I am 100% all for that, it's not my forte though. Dang-it, my key board is a mouse! >:(

message 46: by [deleted user] (new)

We still need to solve the problem of the mods though. They are a bunch of demi gods, not interested in their creation. They have started to believe the propaganda the sea monkeys have been espousing about evolution.

message 47: by [deleted user] (last edited Apr 26, 2014 07:14AM) (new)

Understand that, but in the past the reins have been handed over when the mods have stopped being active. Do we simply pack up an leave?

message 48: by [deleted user] (new)

Yay Barb!

Should we sit by the camp fire and toast marshmallows while we wait?

message 49: by [deleted user] (new)

*brings out the pyromaniac supply kit, and a few old left over items from cracker night*

message 50: by CD (new)

CD | 1577 comments *adding graham crackers and chocolate bars to weekend shopping list*

Mmmmm - s'mores for all!

-Have rotisserie, will travel . . .
