25.5 Janice's Task

My favorite Roman soldiers Macro and Cato are sent out to secretly re..."
You've been holding out on me.... Macro and Cato?

Oh, I like this choice--although it's a book I probably wouldn't pick up for myself--it fits the task.

• Has The Word Cat(s) In The Title.
• Or Has A Picture Of A Cat(s) On The Cover.

Catfantastic 1 edited by Andre Norton and Martin H. Greenberg
This is the first of a series of anthologies. I would like to know what 27 "favorite" books went into the Witch World with librarian Judith Justin in Wilanne S. Belden's "Gate of the Kittens".

I've finished I'm a Stranger Here Myself by poet Ogden Nash last night as part of Nicole's task (25.1). I really enjoy Nash's humerous look at human foibles and ordinary, everyday thoughts and deeds.

I agree BJ Rose, I didn't like A Spot of Bother nearly as much as Mark Haddon's The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time. Although I did think some of the final scenes in 'A Spot of Bother' were pretty funny, they weren't enough to make me fall in love with the book.

9. Your Homework Assignment (Should You Choose To Accept It) Is To Read A Book With The Word Home OR Work In The Title.
• After Reading The Book You Have To Design A Homework Assignment That Relates Somehow To That Book. Post The Details Of The Assignment When You Claim Points For This Task.
Work A Story of Experience, Louisa May Alcott.
Homework assignment: Alcott details a wide variety of jobs available to young women in the late nineteenth century. In an essay compare and contrast the options available to Christie Devon in Alcott's novel to options available to young women today. Would Christie be able to make it in society today? Would you be able to make it in Christie's society?

• Name Of A Place In The Title: Sarajevo
The Fixer A Story from Sarajevo-Joe Sacco
• Thing/Object In The Title: Handbook
The Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook-Joshua Piven & David Borgenicht

Some of the books read were: We're Going on a Bear Hunt, The Berenstain Bears go to School, The BB go Trick or Treat, and Froggy Goes to School.
So that completes task 10.3 for me and brings me up to 40 points

I'm glad someone else is feeling my pain! I'm not necessarily trying to read them in the order I want to (I want to read almost all of them), but I AM trying to read them before they're due back to the library... without renewing each one 7000 times (like last challenge) and that's... a bit constraining... ..."
Yes, I am having to work in books sooner in the challenge because of the library return date. I'm also having to work in books that I have been in my library hold queue for months that have finally come it. Each challenge I tell myself I'm going to limit myself to books I actually own, but it never seems to work that way. It's about a 50/50 split right now.

Beautiful Boy- A Father's Journey through His Son's addiction by David Sceff (Task 10.2)
Winnie the Pooh by A.A.Milne (Task 10.3)
Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane(Group Read Task 20.3)

I always enjoy reading The Christmas Carol and read it almost every December. I'm a bit early this year but I still very much enjoyed it.

A new house for the Morrisons by Penny Carter
Heavens All Star Jazz Band by Don Carter
The Walloping Willow-blind adapted and illustrated by Jim LaMarche
The Foundling by Carol Carrick
Patrick's Dinosaurs on the Internet by Carol Carrick
bringing my total points to a whopping 25!!

That brings my total to 60 points.

Right there with you both...I think I have 4-5 parts of different tasks done, so it might be a while for me too, but I am working on some of the bigger point or multi point tasks. Same issues with books from library coming into play after waiting so long too. Good luck to both of you ;-)

The Frog Prince, Continued by Jon Scieszka [32 pgs:]
Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak [48 pgs:]
The Incredible Book-Eating Boy by Oliver Jeffers [32 pgs:]
My favorite by far was The Incredible Book-Eating Boy. Funny and great art!

Well... the story of how this book came to me had a twist or two in itself...
I think it's mainly aimed at people who have faith but issues or doubts. As a person without that faith (but with a wonder of all that's around us and a feeling that 'there has to be something more...') it didn't really impact me beyond the story itself.
That said, it did reduce me to tears of both sadness and, on one occasion, from happiness. But then I am an old softy from time to time. Both extremes were partly due to my own life events, current and past.
It did make me reconsider the 10 Commandments, with the possibility of changing it from "You must observe these 10 things in order to..." to "If you live within a certain way, with love for all, then you would be ABLE to follow/enjoy these 10 things..."
so that was good :)

I think this would have been an especially powerful book if I'd read it first as a teenager but I still enjoyed it quite a bit as an adult reading it for the first time and gave it 4 stars.

4-The City of Ember by Jeanne Duproa
Unfortunately I saw the movie before I actually read the book so it was hard reading the book not based off the movie. In the end I think that I definately liked the book better. The movie is a very sad adaptation of the book and I cringe whenever I think about it now. They left out a ton of things and added other things that didn't make much sense like the giant mole. Sometimes I wonder if they even read the book.

4. Book Turned Into Movie: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling.
Originally, this had been my least favorite book of the series, because I hated CAPS LOCK HARRY. But re-listening to this on audio I really, really liked it. Maybe it's better on its second read, when I'm not worried about what will happen next and can just enjoy the story. Also, I usually watch the movie so far away from when I read the book that I don't see the differences between the two. This time I really noticed how much they abridged...a shame, because they sacrificed some of my favorite scenes for that. But it has to be done. The first time I watched, I definitely liked the movie a lot more. This time, I think I liked the book more, because it had a lot more plot (though I'm pretty sure one of my favorite lines was movie, only: Harry to Umbridge as she is taken away by centaurs "Sorry, professor. I mustn't tell lies." Bwahahaha, burned).

Have you/are you going to watch The Vampire Diaries TV show? I haven't read the books, but the show looks interesting.

10.10: CAT SITTER ON A HOT TIN ROOF by Blaize Clement
I liked this catty mystery and will be looking for others in the series.

Not really my type of read, but it was OK.
