OOO! Haven't done this in a while.

Jamie Quinn Mystery Collection Box Set Books 1-3 by Barbara Venkataraman I have been on this series an author asked me to review for over a year (school, NOT because it is not interesting).

The Beggar King (The Hangman's Daughter, #3) by Oliver Pötzsch I am in the middle of this series, on audiobook, because it is enthralling and the story is based in the area of Germany that my ancestors came from! It is translated from German and takes place in the middle ages, a few decades before my father's family fled from Germany to New Amsterdam, otherwise known as New York now.

I'll have to check those out.
I finally read
Changeling (Otherworld/Sisters of the Moon, #2) by Yasmine Galenorn , after not liking the first it took years to be convinced to read the next. I always thought the world was interesting. I really liked book 2.

I've decided to start the BOM
White Hot (Hidden Legacy, #2) by Ilona Andrews

And am 1/4 into
Darkling (Otherworld/Sisters of the Moon #3) by Yasmine Galenorn , whch so far I'm liking like the 2nd, better than the first. Maybe it was the way she did the world building.

I just finished reading A shiver of light (merry gentry #9) by laurell k hamilton ( im on the app so i can't post the cover).
Anyway i realised why ive never re read the series. Its incredibly frustrating! So im off to read white hot (our current BOM). Join us! https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

message 207: by Adele, Moderator (new)

Adele (mooturtil) | 1749 comments Mod
Yeah merry is a fantastic series but it feels so unfinished... and there are no more books even though the author wants to bring out another one. She hasn't. Im still waiting dammit!
But if you have only 3 books left and have already abandoned it.. i suggest (and i don't say this very often). DONT GO BACK. I found it frustrated me more and more and if i was not reading the last book on the tablet... it would have flown across the room into a wall.
I had a moment of how dare she(directed at the author..who is one of my all time favourites mind you). i was in disbelief and i got a little angry that there are no more books. Im actually off to check sites like fanfiction.com just to get some closure!

message 208: by Amyiw, Challenges Moderator (last edited Jan 13, 2018 01:47PM) (new)

Amyiw | 1066 comments Mod
That sounds frustrating. I haven't actually started that one yet. I had to stop Anita because it was depressing me and just haven't yet got to Merry even though everyone says that it is so different.

So I finished White Hot (Hidden Legacy, #2) by Ilona Andrews as a re-read and it is great even the second time. I think maybe though the 3rd is my favorite though I'll have to re-read to see. I've already got it ready to reread though...
I'm almost through
Darkling (Otherworld/Sisters of the Moon #3) by Yasmine Galenorn and it is pretty good too, so the 2nd and 3rd were a lot better for me than the first. Something just didn't click for me and the first.

I'm also going to The Gunslinger (The Dark Tower, #1) by Stephen King , the Darktower book 1 as a buddy read so... Wildfire (Hidden Legacy, #3) by Ilona Andrews might take a back seat.

message 209: by Amyiw, Challenges Moderator (new)

Amyiw | 1066 comments Mod
I'm disliking The Gunslinger (The Dark Tower, #1) by Stephen King at 70%, boring mostly and dream like, back stories that break in. First Stephen King and probably not the best first book to start with. I cannot understand why someone would pick this to make a movie.

Darkling (Otherworld/Sisters of the Moon #3) by Yasmine Galenorn , was really good, so I will probably continue on in the series.

message 210: by Mackenzie (new)

Mackenzie | 22 comments So finished Lightness Falling (Lightness Saga #2) by Stacey Marie Brown The Fall Of The King (Lightness Saga #3) by Stacey Marie Brown (waiting for the next one to come out!!) And finished City in Embers (Collector, #1) by Stacey Marie Brown The Barrier Between (Collector #2) by Stacey Marie Brown and started on Across The Divide (Collector #3) by Stacey Marie Brown . Im in love with this series! I cant seem to put it down so far! :)

Really did not like the Gunslinger so will have to let that go. I went back to Guardians of Eternity, and finished book 7 Devoured by Darkness, plan to go on after I finish the 2 novellas before the next. And I'm currently reading
Midnight Blue-Light Special (InCryptid, #2) by Seanan McGuire , which is really good too. Finally I'm getting a good streak.

OK finish Midnight Blue-Light Special (InCryptid, #2) by Seanan McGuire , the mice are great.
And decided to move on to
Grave Ransom (Alex Craft, #5) by Kalayna Price by recommendation. So far I'm really liking it and like that it is in our world. Also some of the character appear from a novella I really liked to. So I might like this one better than the last. We will see. I've been avoiding it...

OMG..I finished The Beggar King (The Hangman's Daughter, #3) by Oliver Pötzsch and the series is amazing! I highly recommend it for historical fiction, not so much PNR.

Grave Ransom (Alex Craft, #5) by Kalayna Price , was great. Given that I gave book #4 a 3 star, meh review bumped up from 2 1/2 stars, I'm very happy with book #5.

I have since moved back to Guardians of Eternity, which I think is good not great and Incryptid, which so far I am loving. On to,
Bound By Darkness (Guardians of Eternity, #8) by Alexandra Ivy & Pocket Apocalypse (InCryptid, #4) by Seanan McGuire

Just finished
Half-Off Ragnarok (InCryptid, #3) by Seanan McGuire and really love Alex and his geekiness & mice.

OMG.. I am in the middle of Lost and it is so boring... I usually love Gregory Maguire, but this is just a giant snoozefest! I have it on Audiobook because I get through more books that way, but the reader has a s monotone British accent that I want to fall asleep. Just thinking about it right now makes me want to sleep...

Tell me some good, exciting books so I can put that in my CD player instead? Pretty please?

message 216: by Amyiw, Challenges Moderator (new)

Amyiw | 1066 comments Mod
I got 1/2 way through one of his books and quit. Confession of an Ugly Step-sister I think.

I read right through Incryptid, OK not right through as I don't read more than 2 or 3 of any series in a row. I always need a break even with my favorites. Still I only had true issue with one of the Incryptid, #4, and even liked the over all story.

I'm just finishing Eli Monpresses last book, Spirit's End (The Legend of Eli Monpress, #5) by Rachel Aaron . It is a good fantasy, not as good as her Heartstrikers.

message 218: by Amyiw, Challenges Moderator (new)

Amyiw | 1066 comments Mod
OK, finished Eli Monpress and was slightly disappointed with the very ending as I feel that she just didn't know how to wrap it up so threw it together.

I'm in a reading funk and didn't want to post but Bunnycore's post in "come say hello"... well is pushing me to do it.
Claimed (Brides of the Kindred, #1) by Evangeline Anderson , this is pretty bad and stays pretty boring even in the erotic department. I've pushed through and the last 15% has a story and is OK but... 85% is rubbish so 1 maybe 1 1/2 stars from me. I think I'm going to have to drop this author.

Broken Blade (Colbana Files, #3) by J.C. Daniels , not bad in stories, but that is the problem, stories meshed together and the big one starts 1/2 way through the book. So you can put it down and you don't miss it. It has taken weeks for me to push through and I'm at 80% now. Will be done soon. If I had been listening to the audio, then I would've finished by default, but it just didn't call to me to pick it up, not until the ending. Was the audio, not particularly good narrator either.

Donkey by Stephanie Brother , this started so bad that I don't know if I can go back to it. The guy is a asshat. The women (girl as she acts like one) doesn't have a spine. Your mom is an ass and tell her you would rather walk out than sleep in the same room as this dick. Really her mother puts her in a room with a stranger, a man! Crappy premise. I started it and I'm bad at stopping, DNF, but I might. Listening to audio so should be easy to push through but just can't.

So there are my stoppers. Two audio books and a print copy and not a finished one in 10 days. My average is 2 books every 3 days. So really stoppers. I hope that the Iron Druid new release, Scourged (The Iron Druid Chronicles, #9) by Kevin Hearne , Man Card (Man Hands, #2) by Sarina Bowen Man Card, Hot and Badgered (The Honey Badgers, #1) by Shelly Laurenston Hot and Badgered, Twice Bitten (Argeneau #27) by Lynsay Sands Twice Bitten, and the new Amy Daws release Wait With Me by Amy Daws will get me out of this as I need some good reads!

I've been on a Scifi kick for the last few weeks but started a UF/PNR yesterday.

Hot and Badgered (Honey Badger Chronicles, #1) by Shelly Laurenston
I have been waiting for her to get back to her Pride and Mangus series and this is a shoot off with characters showing up but not necessary for understanding. Loving it.

Fainished Hot and Badgered (Honey Badger Chronicles, #1) by Shelly Laurenston and it was great fun. I wish she would get back to this world more.

I'm back into my Hard Luck Hank
Stank Delicious (Hard Luck Hank, #5) by Steven Campbell

I read these scifi that read like UF and most that like female protagonist in UF would probably like them
Pirate Nemesis (Telepathic Space Pirates, #1) by Carysa Locke , Fortune's Pawn (Paradox #1) by Rachel Bach , Honor's Knight (Paradox #2) by Rachel Bach
Last two are written by Rachel Aaron of the Heartstriker's series under her scifi pseudonym. Nice Dragons Finish Last

Since the last time updating here I've read and liked the last of Rachel Bach's Paradox, Heaven's Queen
Also finished Eve Langlais' Space Gypsy with
Rebel, & King
started off romance, ended space opera with no HEA. I liked it.

And my favorite was
Queen of the Damned (Imp, #9) by Debra Dunbar , I'm so going to miss Sam as the main character. The next book is supposed to end her line of books of the Imp series but there will still be Imp World spin offs.

I'm finishing up
Coyote Dreams (Walker Papers, #3) by C.E. Murphy right now

Jody wrote: "Was Coyote Dreams good Amyiw?"

Yes, it was good, pretty good, just not very good. I've had like 3 or 4 of those in a row, those not quite 4 star as something just brings it down in the end or it drags a bit too much. I really like the first Urban Shaman, thought it would be a favorite series from the first book. Then, the 2nd and 3rd just haven't clicked complete, or they start really good and peter. That was #3. I will go on as I like the characters and series. I just wish it was a little less surreal and dragged a bit less at points.

I'm now reading
The Darkest Promise (Lords of the Underworld, #13) by Gena Showalter , which is just not going to get to the good, pretty good, but maybe OK to good. I'm 60% through and these two just don't have chemistry. Man the first books in this series had characters that sizzled. Luckily this one doesn't have all the side plots but these two are always thinking off putting thought when they are together physically and it takes away the chemistry. Then there is a bit of drag to get anywhere. *sigh* I thought if the side stories didn't interfere that her chemistry would come back, I was wrong. I have been saying that I should drop this series since The Darkest Seduction but just haven't done it.

2/3rds in and really good though a bit verbose in military descriptions of armaments and battle plans.

Just finished
Cursed (Alex Verus, #2) by Benedict Jacka , which was better than the first and I don't think I'll wait as long to get back to it.
&
Kill the Queen (Crown of Shards, #1) by Jennifer Estep , which is a new fantasy series but Jennifer Estep. If you like Elemental assassins, you'll probably enjoy this. No cliffhanger thought there are lines that can be continued.
