Kate (pdxstitch) | 88 comments After searching the discussion groups & the librarian manual, I still can't figure out how to merge/combine identical (or nearly identical) quotations, only that it is possible to do. Can someone please explain how to do it (and can we please add this to the manual)? Thanks!

Sarah | 2 comments This is how I have done it:
1. Go to author's page
2. Click to see all quotes
3. Upper right click on combine
4. Check the box by quotes that should be combined
-All likes will be combined
-I believe the quote with less likes will be merged into the one with more likes - at least this has happened every time for me
-Tags from the "lesser liked" quote do not merge so try to manually add these after
-There does not seem to be consensus on whether to merge shorter and longer quotes

(I am a relatively new GR librarian so someone else can feel free to correct or add new information)

Rafael da Silva (morfindel) | 1874 comments This is how I do too. But the likes was not merging. I don't know why. There's a calculus about the similarity. There's that information in the GR librarian manual. Quotes slightly different will not merge.

They do, but the counts take a while to update. I think that cache is about 24 hours.

They can be merged by a superlibrarian even if they are not Levenshtein similar. (And I believe by any librarian if both have fewer than 5 likes.)

Oh. Thanks.

Really? Good to know. I didn't know that information, but I always try to merge, if I cannot I accept.
