To add a little twist for the new year, we're making a buddy read challenge for 2016! You and a partner will be choosing one book each month for the other to read. Starting in January, pick a friend in the group that you would like to do the challenge with. Keep in mind, you will be choosing a book for each other every month for the year, so choose someone you know wants to be a part of the challenge for all 12 months. Here are the general guidelines:

-Every month, each of you picks a book for the other to read, any genre
-Try to stick with what you know your buddy won't object to or dislike reading, we want to keep this friendly!
-Books must be more than 150 pages, no novellas
-Each partner should create a new folder titled "I Pick, You Pick" on their page and post the link here so we can see your books throughout the year
-Reviews are welcomed and encouraged

Elise, if no one has responded yet, I'd be your partner. I've been toying with the idea of this challenge, but I didn't feel like searching for a partner.

Not really as far as genres go. Though I really dislike books that deplict DV relationships as "romantic" (I can give you examples of some really popular series that so this).

I'd love to get recommendations from authors I have not read before.

What about you? Any genre's (or authors) that you really don't like? Are you open to books that are not necessarily YA?

I am very open to recommendations that are not YA. There is really not many genres that I wouldn't read but I do have a few things I dislike. I only read m/f romance. Plus I don't like dark romance. Do you mind if I send a friend request so I can take a look at your shelves? I really don't want to recommend a book I think you will not like. I take it you are okay with books that aren't YA also?

Nicole D. (thereadingrebel) | 969 comments I started reading my pick from Nicole yesterday which is Finnikin of the Rock (Lumatere Chronicles, #1) by Melina Marchetta and I am in love with this book. I don't know why I have never heard of it before.

Woo Hoo. That is one of my favourite series! I love Melina Marchetta (I got to meet her last year). She's an Australian author so she may not be big in the US. This is her only fantasy series. I wish she would write another one. She normally writes stand alone contemporary stories. While I love her other novels they don't compare to the Lumatere Chronicles.

I just finished Darker Still (Magic Most Foul, #1) by Leanna Renee Hieber as recommended by Nicole D. While it was no Finnikin of the Rock hehe I did enjoy it. It definitely had flavours of Dorian Gray in it, but with more romance. Though Goodreads some how miss rated it for me. I finished it on my kindle, then came on here to update my status and it had it as read and 2 stars. Maybe I accidently pressed a rating trying to get out of it? I don't normally rate books on my kindle. Hmm weird.

message 43: by Marla (new)

Marla | 514 comments I finished Stargirl (Stargirl, #1) by Jerry Spinelli . It was a bittersweet read, but Stargirl herself was wonderful! I would love to be serenaded by ukelele on my birthday! Though I have to say, I loved Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell more. Thanks Savannah for the pick!

While I am very happy you liked it. It's happened to me rating books on kindle. For some reason whenever I try to rate it 4 it almost always rates it 3.

I didn't know Marchetta was from Australia, I can use her for Authors around the World challenge. I love it when a book can be used for multiple challenges. I have already went and bought books 2 and 3. This series is going to be a favorite.

I love those multi challenged books to Nicole. I have yet to get to this one but I do remember Belkis raving about it.
