Trike Season 2 has a release date: 3-18-16

Daredevil has long been Marvel's Catholic character, and the arc that really put him on the map back in the 80s hit that aspect hard. Looks like they're going to be updating that storyline for season 2.

Heidi Angell (heidiangell) | 74 comments Did anyone else enjoy Daredevil? I want to, but I am kind of struggling after watching Arrow and having a completely different Daredevil there! I kind of liked him! Is that weird of me to have trouble separating the two?

message 3: by Trike (new)

Trike I loved Daredevil. I also thoroughly enjoy Arrow. They are very similar, in that Arrow's writers consciously took inspiration from the darker 1980's version of Daredvil and Batman, both written by Frank Miller, so they share story elements and characters who fulfill the same roles. (The blind weaponmaster Stick in DD and the ruthless trainer Deathstroke in Arrow, for instance.)

I think the fact both shows are nearly identical in their construction with the flashbacks and character development from lone violent vigilante to a more team-based group justice league is coincidental. They are identical solutions to similar problems stemming from a similar source.

Heidi Angell (heidiangell) | 74 comments True, I just thought it was strange when they had the guest appearance of DD in Arrow that they used a different actor. I think it would have been better to have a cross over rather than develop a whole separate story line within Arrow for DD. I didn't read the comics growing up, but I had a cousin who was really into them and would go from one series to another because of the crossovers. If the producers learned from that, I think it would be easier to build up their fan base.

Terri (terrilovescrows) | 79 comments When was Daredevil on Arrow? I have watched every episode from the beginning and don't remember that. After all Daredevil is Marvel and Arrow is DC, so that sounds really bizarre.

Heidi Angell (heidiangell) | 74 comments Oh, ha ha.... just went and looked it up and it was the Flash, not Daredevil... Oops. You know, speed, red costume, the Marvel knock off of Daredevil. That makes so much more sense! That is what I get for watching with my kids talking!

message 7: by Trike (new)

Trike DD wasn't on Arrow. Heidi, did you get into the eggnog and rum cake?

Lara Amber (laraamber) | 664 comments On all the technical merits Daredevil is excellent. The writing, acting, pacing, editing, it's all top notch. I enjoy watching it and think it is superior to pretty much any superhero show currently on regular television.

Where it fails for me is the premise of Daredevil himself. He will always be one of those ideas that, even in the world of superheroes and toxic waste causing abilities instead of death, makes no sense to me. A blind superhero who also has all these over the top abilities that make him better then a sighted person, even for items that are holding still and make no sound. He isn't using tech to overcome his blindness or relying on a partner. Not having sight means that as a detective he would only be able to recognize a very specific range of clues. So the plots have to be tailor made to his limitations. Oh and somehow he also has the time to be a lawyer, that's a profession known for it's ample free time...

At least Bruce Wayne was known for partying and sleeping late. He also disappeared for years for training and had giant piles of cash to develop his toys.

Jessica Jones doesn't have this concept issue and while Daredevil is still a five star show for me, JJ breaks the damn scale.

Trike Check out the Invisibilia episode "How to be Batman" for how a blind man can see. They even have a segment where a blind guy who is an analog for Stick is teaching a blind 5-year-old how to use his senses... by leading him into traffic. They also force blind kids to climb trees and ride bikes. Tough love that some call bullying.

I was thinking, "Holy crap, they're creating an army of Daredevils!"

Lara Amber (laraamber) | 664 comments There is using your remaining senses to compensate and then what we see Daredevil doing, like hearing heartbeats.

message 12: by Trike (new)

Trike Well, he is a superhero living in a Fantasy universe, after all.

message 13: by Justice (new)

Justice (HavenTierra) Well I loved the first season of Daredevil. And I think it will only get better as the series goes on. More awesome characters will soon be featured too (heroes and villains) and I'm sure DD & Jessica Jones will eventually intertwine as well.

Flash was a character many years before DD! (If you go back to the comics that is

Also The Flash and Daredevil are almost nothing alike. Maybe the only thing is they share red costumes, although different shades of red.

Grace Crandall (gracecrandall) | 85 comments Daredevil!! I cannot wait for season two (though I guess I'll have to). Such a fun show :)
I have to admit though, I kinda miss the old black costume. I really liked the eyehole-less mask on it.

Gary I've probably binge-watched DD S1 four times now (it's good to exercise to) so it's safe to say I like it. 9/10. I knock off a point for mostly personal reasons having to do with my own mental picture of the characters (which is not, of course, a fair thing to do, but since they're my imaginary points I'm doing it anyway) and the very occasional awkward slip when it comes to plot.

There's a lot of good performances, but D'Onofrio stands out, which is funny because I would not have thought of him at all for that part, so I'm going to give back my imaginary tenth point on that basis. 10/10.

Elden Henson/Foggy isn't so great, but I don't think that's entirely any particular person's fault. The actor is physically good for the role, and I've seen him do well, but he seems to be lacking directorial guidance, a complete character bible, or something intrinsic to the naturalism of the character. Rescinding that 10th point again. 9/10.

I totally dig the grittiness, and I like that Daredevil doesn't "one punch knockout" every minor henchman. He has to MMA his way through them. He does it superhero-style, to be sure, but it looks like it hurts--not just the people he's hitting. Back at 10 points.

Then there was the last episode, which I thought was a bit of an anti-climax. 9/10 again.

Still that's absolutely worth watching. Green Lantern kind of cured me of my commitment to absolutely anything comic book/superhero related. I'll not automatically go out and watch anything in the genre anymore. It has to intrigue me beforehand. I'm very much on board for S2 of Daredevil.

Nicki Markus (nickijmarkus) I loved Daredevil and Jessica Jones. Marvel have really nailed it with all their direct (MCU) films and TV series lately.

A.J. Norfield (ajnorfield) | 11 comments Excellent, just finished Jessica Jones and was hoping Daredevil would soon follow with a second season!

message 22: by Bittman (new)

Bittman (bittman) | 42 comments Looking forward to the exploration of this dynamic between Daredevil and The Punisher. A cameo of Jessica Jones and/or Luke Cage (or maybe their assistance in an episode or two) would be a fun addition. I find it hard to believe that these super-powered individuals can be running around in the same vicinity and not be aware of each other.
