Vernal Hey guys! I have been a part of this group for (I think) almost a year now. Unfortunately, I have always been that "lurker" who always stalked these discussions. I thought it was finally time that I introduce myself.

I am actually a newbie when it comes to reading. I always enjoyed watching T.V. shows that kept me on the "edge of my seat". I thought I wouldn't have the same feeling when it came to books, until I read Gone Girl. Since then, I have read a couple mystery/crime/thriller books here and there and I really enjoy these types of books.

I really want to start a detective series. I heard good things about Harry Bosch, Jack Reacher, Lucas Davenport and many other detective series, but I have no idea where to start. Any recommendations would help!

I promise to not lurk as much as I used to and I look forward to making new friends. Thank you!

Amy (thenikitagirl) | 587 comments I recommend Now You See Me by SJ Bolton. Seriously, you won't be disappointed. It was a recommendation to me this year and I loved it.
:)))

Thanks for the recommendation Amy :) I just read the synopsis and it sounds awesome! I look forward to reading it.

Hello, Vernal! I'm Maycee (new to Goodreads). I noticed Jan recommended Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch series. I think that was an excellent recommendation. I've recently finished two thrillers by D.B. Woodling and enjoyed them as well.

Bill Welcome to the group, Vernal...

message 7: by Vernal (new)

Vernal Thanks Jan. Luckily, I got The Black Echo sitting on my bookshelf. I think the Harry Bosch series will be promising.

Hey MAYCEE, nice to meet you! I'm leaning towards the Harry Bosch series now. I will definitely look into the works of D.B. Woodling as well. Thanks for the recommendation and welcome to Goodreads :)

Thanks Bill, I hope you're having an amazing day :)

Chelsie (chelzlou) Welcome! I am not that out spoken either, so no worries! :) Harry Bosch is definitely a must! If you like those and Gone Girl- I would then also recommend the Gretchen Lowell series by Chelsea Cain- the first is called Heartsick! We did just do a read by Paul Cleve called The Cleaner which was awesome as well!

message 9: by Michael (new)

Michael (micky74007) Don't forget to give Robert B. Parker a try. I really liked his Spenser series, and his Jesse Stone series is pretty good too.

message 10: by Vernal (new)

Vernal Thanks for the recommendations Chelsie! I will add those books to my TBR. Michael, the Spenser series seems really interesting. Thanks bud :)

It feels good to finally communicate in this group haha! I love getting book recommendations instead of just judging which book I'll read next depending on the ratings it gets on Goodreads. There have been cases where I liked a book in the 3.80 range far more than a book in the 4.00+ range.

William Davis | 132 comments The Harry Bosch series is great. Personally, I got bored with Lee Child's Jack Reacher, but there are some good books there. My favorite for some years now is the Elvis Cole series by Robert Crais.

message 12: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Isaac | 1 comments If you liked gone girl deff read dark places. I liked it way better than gone girl. I also enjoy books by Lisa Jackson.

Welcome!

message 14: by Vernal (new)

Vernal Thanks William! I actually just started the Harry Bosch series recently. I also have Robert Crais on my TBR. I've heard good things about the Elvis Cole series.

Hey Jessica! Thanks for the recommendation. I actually went to my local bookstore yesterday and picked up Sharp Objects since it was pretty cheap. I have Dark Places on my TBR as well.

Thank you Nancy!

message 15: by Pat (new)

Pat Camalliere | 12 comments I heartily agree with the Harry Bosch series, and other writers that never disappoint are Elmore Leonard and Ed McBain. And if you haven't read any of the "Girl Who" series by Stieg Larsson, they are exceptional.

message 16: by Shane (new)

Shane Bullow | 2 comments I have enjoyed the Elvis Cole and Lucas Davenport series for years. I have sworn off the Jack Reacher series after the last book and Tom Cruise playing him in the movie. For a different twist I love the DCI Banks series by Peter Robinson and the Gabriel Allon series by Daniel Silva.

Vernal Thanks Pat, I just started the Harry Bosch series. I'm not that far into it but I feel it's going to be a great read. Also, thanks for the recommendation! The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo has been on my TBR for a quite a bit.

Shane, I think I won't be reading the Jack Reacher series anytime soon now haha. Thanks for the other recommendations!
