Week 3! How are people doing? I finished a book whose protagonist has my occupation (the laundry's cold and the beer's folded; stay at home mom) and a graphic novel (dayblack). I also started go set a watchman (book you meant to read in 2015) and food: a love story (book written by a comedian.

Katherine (kiik) Last week, I finished The Tragedy Paper (blue cover) and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (guaranteed to bring you joy). I had been planning on re-reading it, and the day Alan Rickman died seemed to be a good day to revisit it. Now I want to re-read them all! Sigh, so many books, so little time.

Clare (-clare-) Hi all :)

It's not often a book brings tears to my eyes but last weeks book Flowers for Algernon had me weeping. It's one of those stories that has made a real impact on me. I wish i'd read it sooner. 5★

This week i've started reading Cold Comfort Farm. It's supposed to be a comedy but so far i'm just very confused. I'm hopeful that it will improve.

Charline (charline84) | 80 comments Last week I read Brave New World for a dystopian novel and I have to say I didn't like it. I knew pretty early on I wasn't going to like it but persevered as it was only 229 pages. So yeah, didn't enjoy that. What I am enjoying though is Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail for my Oprah's book club prompt. I'm finding it really interesting. I've got less than 100 pages to go, so should finish in the next couple of days.

Clare, when I was in HS my theater group did Flowers For Algernon. It was one of the most moving experiences of my young life! Our School Valedictorian played Charlie, and he was masterful! I have never read the book - maybe I should.

Maarja | 2 comments I finished Making It Up As I Go Along (book by a celebrity, just depends on what you count as a celebrity!). A very easy read to start 2016.
I will be hopefully starting Minu Kennedy (book my mum loves). Really not my kind of book, so we will see how this goes.

Emily Wrayburn (emilywrayburn) I've just today started Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, which will be my Book that's becoming a movie this year.

That Flowers for Algernon was a great book! I read it last year. What did you like best about it?

message 10: by Elle (new)

Elle Pea I am making great headway onmy challenge this month (thanks to vacation days and my not-so-secret influencing of the book selection for my two in-person book clubs). I've already finished 4 of my 20-ish challenge.

Letters to My Grandchildren (David Suzki) (an author I shiuld have read by now)
A Casual Vacancy - J.K. Rowling (a book everyone talks about)
The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up (read in one sitting) &
Welcome to Night Vale (a book recommended to me - by two separate people too!)

I highly recommend all of them actually :)

message 11: by Emily (new)

Emily Wrayburn (emilywrayburn) Elle, have you listened to the Welcome To Night Vale podcast? I've seen a couple of people reading the book and have wondered how it compares.

message 12: by Elle (new)

Elle Pea i did listen to a few after I read the book. There are similarities but it is not exact. I think both formats are unique and uses the unique strengths of each format.

Clare (-clare-) @Leanne Thats awesome! I'd love to see a theatre production of FFA. It seems from the reviews that I've read that many people in the USA were required to read FFA in high school is that correct? I just wish books like this were studied more in schools over here in the UK. I'd never even heard of this book until I joined Goodreads. It's a crying shame.

@Elle I'm not sure I can pick just one favourite bit. The whole book had me gripped and several times in tears.
