The Toast discussion

So, I read quite a few comics. But I never know whether to log them on Goodreads! I'll do it with graphic novels, but not with the comics I read monthly, because it feels like it "counts" less. Which is ridiculous, of course!

The reason for bringing this up now: I'd fallen behind on The Fade Out because I sort of lost the plot, so I read it from start to end these past two evenings. It feels substantial enough, but the only way to log it here is to read all three volumes, and it doesn't feel like 3 "books".

How do Toastie comic readers handle this?

I usually log the trades. So 4-5 comics together becomes one book. And if it's a short book, well I figure it gets offset by the longer epics I also enjoy and everything evens out in the end.

I always log the issues so in case I need to go back and figure when I stopped reading a series, or the last one, it's easy for me to find the cut off. I then also, will log all trades. It might be double the work, but at least I can keep track of all I've read as I frequently go through comic 'phases' where I might need to cycle back to remember which ones exactly I've read.

Yes, log them! You don't want to forget what you read. And they count!

Count 'em! I mostly read via trades - you could record that way, if it feels like it "counts" better to log one every handful of issues.

I would definitely count them! I don't read comics, but I do read children's books - and I log every one. I love having the record of what I've read.

Yeah! It's not like there's an actual prize for the most books logged, so you're not cheating anything.

Similarly, I know places like Tor sell their short stories/novellas as standalones and I've seen people log those, which you could make the same argument about.

I'm definitely on the side of logging them, since I use goodreads to keep track of everything I read. Like Caitlin, I log 4-5 issues as trades read.

Oh, definitely log 'em in whatever way best helps you! Goodreads is a tool for organizing and cataloging your reading, so no reason to not build your shelves and lists to suit.

Log them! It feels so nice to be able to check things off a list and show that something is accomplished. It makes me feel good and as a bonus it helps me remember what I read.
Gosh, I don't know if I could read monthly issues. I hate cliff hangers and I'm super impatient. I have to wait until they are a full volume so I can just binge on their gloriousness.

Yes! I just went through and logged (most) of my comics because I go through phases and tend to buy single issues or trades depending on caught up I am at the moment. And then I'd fall even farther behind because when I happened to stop into the comic shop, I'd never be able to remember which issues I'd already read. Hopefully now with a record I can consult on the fly it will be much easier to stay caught up.
