message 165: by Lori (new)

Lori Wilen | 97 comments Decided that today had to be the day to do this challenge. I am going to be working on Monday and it is planning to be a long day. So I started Bared to You by Sylvia Day this morning. I couldn't put it down. Despite doing many other things today, and I am not the fastest reader in the world, I just finished it and I absolutely adored it. Not sure if I am more in love with Christian Grey or Gideon Cross.

message 166: by Ultrajbk (new)

Ultrajbk | 67 comments Just finished Enormous Smallness - my choice for this challenge. Wow wow wow. I loved it. Beautiful intro for everyone, not just the "enormous smallies" that may be in your life - and if you do have them, and you love e e and/ or poetry do yourself and them favour and read it to them. Beautifully illustrated by Kris Di Giacomo too.

Kadijah Michelle (kadmich) | 2176 comments Theresa~OctoberLace wrote: "On the roster I'm linked to the wrong book. I'll be reading Of Love and Evil by Anne Rice. For some reason, when you put in that title the first book listed is FOR Love..."

Just a clicking error. When I typed in the name of the book, For Love and Evil was the first selection.

message 169: by Kadijah Michelle (new)

Kadijah Michelle (kadmich) | 2176 comments Hello All,

I posted the last update until Tuesday morning for this feed. I have to give myself time to read too :) I have really enjoyed watching all of you select your books, and the enthusiasm you have had for this challenge. I hope it goes well for all of you and you can come back and tell us about your great day reading.

Love, Kadijah Michelle (and I'm sure the other Moderators will totally agree).

message 170: by Imbunche (new)

message 176: by Catty (new)

Catty | 0 comments Well done everyone who has completed their challenge! Over in Australia (where I am) today is the 29th so I decided rather than read random number from my home bookshelf I would read number 29 on said bookshelf! So I will be reading "The Theban Plays" by Sophocles!! That's what I get for keeping my books from high school and Uni lol! It is short though so it should be fine....shall keep you posted!!

Ecem Yücel (ecemyucel) | 240 comments It's 29th now and I've started reading "What We Talk About When We Talk About Love" by Raymond Carver an hour and a half ago and I've finished it now. :) My extra reading challenge on extra day is done :)

message 178: by Rachel (new)

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 162 comments Hope it's not too late. I misunderstood the challenge, and thought we were supposed to read the book on the leap day. I'll be reading Coraline.

Suzanne (Chick with Books) Yester (chickwithbooks) | 5 comments I just downloaded "Silently and Very Fast" based on your recommendation, so that's what I'm going to read! Seems like a great story!

message 180: by Cassandra (last edited Feb 28, 2016 07:33PM) (new)

Cassandra | 5832 comments Rachel, you're not too late at all! Most of us are reading on the 29th, but because not everyone can devote a day to reading a book on a Monday, we allowed people to choose any day in the week leading up to it. I hope you enjoy Coraline!

Suzanne, welcome to the Silently and Very Fast team. :)

message 181: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (amandag23) | 30 comments I read Night today since I don't think I will have the time tomorrow.

Hopefully I can finish within the day! I've just realized I don't have too much time to read tomorrow. It's a nice short book though, so it shouldn't be a problem.

message 184: by Geri (last edited Feb 29, 2016 08:23AM) (new)

Geri | 63 comments Scratch my previous entry. I actually managed to read a book in a day. I started Mine by Aubrey Dark yesterday morning and finished it in the evening.

message 191: by Emily (last edited Feb 29, 2016 07:06AM) (new)

Emily (emilyesears) | 604 comments I read The Library of Unrequited Love on Friday night. It took me 2 hours and was a cute, amusing read. Glad to get it read because I've had it on my TBR since 2014.

EDIT to say that I updated my initial post, message 46.

message 192: by Janine (new)

Janine | 1546 comments I read Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them in one go this afternoon. Only took about 45mins as it's very short, but it was very enjoyable. I particularly enjoyed the foreword and 'about the author' sections at the beginning, they gave a bit more insight on Newt Scamander as a character before the film comes out later this year! I've read this book a few times, but not in a long while, so I'm glad I got round to it again.

Also, does anyone have any ideas if there's a name for a book like this. A non-fiction/reference book, but from within a fictional universe?

message 193: by Christa (new)

Christa (lessthn3) | 298 comments You can change my TBD to A Darker Shade of Magic - I read over half of it on the bus this morning! So excited to finish it!

message 194: by Laura (new)

Laura avery | 181 comments Read my book.
The Time Machine

I loved it but perfered the 60's? Film. I think it was just a lot more visual in places. I loved the film bit where it was passing slowly through time to get to the utopia years. Thats not in the book :(

message 195: by Jeana (new)

Jeana Budnick | 228 comments I finished my 3 volumes of manga yesterday

message 196: by Paul Emily (new)

Paul Emily Ryan (kickbackyak) I finished The Old Man and the Sea today! I found it a little ...off-base and flintily surrealistic for my liking, though part of that could be because Hemingway was literally translating his Cuban Spanish dialogue and thought processes to English. And it feels weirdly like The Martian except it's on a boat, and it doesn't work quite as well. It's still very good though, there's something oddly comforting about its sense and experience and the way it tilts towards myth and darn near succeeds at it. I think Catty has it right, but I'd need to think about it more before I could say whether I agree with it or not. Maybe even read it again. None the less, I really thought it worked. Definitely.

Also, Andrew, if you see this, I read Don Quixote quite some time ago and though I barely remember it, I'd agree with Theresa~OctoberLace that it was really funny in parts, and mostly very enjoyable, and while it was long and occasionally far too long, it was never the kind of long that felt overly tedious. I'd say go for it! :)

message 197: by Reenah (new)

Reenah | 179 comments Just finished Candide by Voltaire

message 198: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 5832 comments It's interesting reading all of your reactions!

Paul, I didn't realize The Old Man and the Sea was short enough to read in a day, and now I'm intrigued by your description.

I'm about halfway through with Silently and Very Fast and so far I'm in love.

message 199: by Jessica (last edited Feb 29, 2016 09:35AM) (new)

Georgia Davison (siriusfrodo) | 3 comments I read The Invention of Hugo Cabret today. I read it when I was younger and thought it would be great to reread it. It was even better this time around!
