The highest price I ever actually paid for a single book was 96 € (without shipping). It was a collection of short stories by Richard L. Tierney:

The Scroll of Thoth Simon Magus and the Great Old Ones Twelve Tales of the Cthulhu Mythos by Richard L. Tierney

While 100 books are a rather proud price for a paperback book, the price range should be still affordable for the average working class person or employee. I wonder if there are any books only available for astronomical prices that you would like to read and/or own?

The most expensive book on my list is Someone in the Dark by August Derleth. Amazon.de lists one available copy ( a 1980 reprint) at 2543 € and 18 cents. Keep in mind that the numbers get even higher if you convert the value from euros into dollars.

Well, the thought that I could ever afford to spend the 2543 bucks is rather utopistic, but perhaps the volume will either see a new reprint one day or re-publication as an ebook.

What are the most expensive books on your wish lists?

Jay (okay_jay) | 219 comments Reassuring Tales by T.E.D. Klein is sitting at about $140 US, but had been almost twice that at one point.
The most I've paid was about $100 for Walk on the Wild Side: The Best Horror Stories of Karl Edward Wagner, Volume 2, and there are a few of Wagner's Kane books that I've been tempted to shell out about the same.

Jeff There was a special from the publisher on a new numbered edition with artwork for Salem's Lot from Stephen King. $100.00. Can't justify it at the moment, even being a favorite.

Arghhhh! I just discovered/realized that the Derleth book that would cost me about 2840$ if ordered via Amazon Germany is available for prices as low as 5$ on Amazon.com...

I think the most expensive book on my list is The Nightmare Factory ranging from 115$ to 24$

Since the astronomically high German prices for the Derleth volume appear to be a freak exception, this piece seems to be the genuine top of my wish list:

The Last Continent: New Tales of Zothique.

The price range starts at about 175$....

Phil (chaoseum) | 792 comments Abebooks has it starting at $110 plus shipping. Far from cheap, but a bit better.

Abebooks seems to be an interesting alternative for stuff not available via Amazon, but it seems one needs a credit card.

Erin (ems84) | 9070 comments The highest amount I paid for a book was $20 and it was Zone One. Unfortunately, it wasn't that good.

Squire (srboone) | 1043 comments I've bought a lot of expensive books from Easton Press: $600 for a facsimile copy of The Kelmscott Chaucer; $400 apiece for a leather bound copy of The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand; $395 for a leather bound copy of The Tale of Genji and $390 for a leather bound 3 volume set of Spencer's The Faerie Queen. I paid $475 for a signed copy of the 25th Anniversary HC edition of IT by Stephen King from Cemetery Dance Publications and $300 for a signed copy of Danse Macabre by Stephen King from Betts Books.

I did pay $250 for a ticket to see Stephen King on his book tour for 11/22/63 (in Dallas no less!) and I got a signed copy of the book with the ticket.

But I do like $18 new HCs from Barnes and Noble.

Myst | 408 comments The most expensive book on my wish list is $3034.42 for Lords Of Light. I've never read it and I cannot find it through the ILL system. I periodically look for it, but I can never find a like new copy for a reasonable price.

Gavin (thewalkingdude) | 118 comments $45 for the leather-bound editions of GoT books 1-5.
