Anthony Deeney | 437 comments Hi all.

Somebody has set up an unofficial facebook site discussing my book!

I don't know what to make of this because, when I visit it, I cannot read the posts!

In addition facebook have set up a page "About Anthony Deeney" as a result of my being mentioned. I don't like this, but I don't think I can do anything about it. It's blank, so that's good, for now.

I am not facebook savy. Why can't I read the posts on the page.

Maymunah Azad | 60 comments Maybe if you could post the link up here, I could check it out for you. Without seeing, I've got two guesses. One, the group/page is set in private, so only selected people can see it. Either that, or no posts have been put up. That's all I can say for now.
Don't worry too much about it. I'm sure no one's put up anything harsh about you but yeah, I'd be concerned if I couldn't see what people were writing about me!

Anthony Deeney | 437 comments Thanks Maymunah,

Here is the link. I think it is just an auto generated page.

Christina McMullen (cmcmullen) Hi Tony. It looks like someone simply added the book to Facebook. Anyone can do this just like anyone can add a book to Goodreads. If there's anything wrong with what they put there, I'm sure you can talk to Facebook about correcting mistakes.

Thanks Christina. Is it blank or are there hidden posts? Suddenly, I wish I had used a pen name!

Christina McMullen (cmcmullen) It's just the book. No one has 'liked' it yet and it appears to have no comments either. You don't have to have a facebook account to see public items like this or author pages.

Anthony Deeney | 437 comments Thanks Christina, I think it is auto generated. I have been googling about this. Seems facebook do this, particularly if the author/business doesn't set one up themself (like me). Then they can gather "likes" and sting the author for advertising. Strange that the cover and blurb are about six months out of date!

There is an irony that the facebook page for the robot book is actually set up by a robot! Maybe it'll get a few "robot likes."

Maymunah Azad | 60 comments Haha don't worry about it! I know Facebook does it a lot, especially for popular searches (like some actors/actresses who aren't on Facebook!) Personally, I'd see it as a good sign! Your book is obviously popular. Why don't you see if you could get ownership of it somehow?

Anthony Deeney | 437 comments I didn't know that was possible. I will poke around and report back.

G.G. (ggatcheson) | 2491 comments I didn't think about books, but I know that when you want to like a music band and it's not there on Facebook, it creates the page. Probably someone wanted to like your book. :)

I saw it and liked the page. It can't hurt. I love blue too! :P

I don't see any easy way to do this. The page is "unofficial."
