John Seymour 5. Talk about the book's structure.
• Is it a continuous story...or interlocking short stories?
• Does the time-line move forward chronologically?
• Does time shift back & forth from past to present?
• Is there a single viewpoint or shifting viewpoints?
• Why might the author have chosen to tell the story
the way he or she did?
• What difference does the structure make in the way
you read or understand the book?

Anna Fennell | 107 comments The time definitely shifts back and forth from past to present. However, the shifts are not confusing. In addition, it is chronological in the telling of Hannah's story.

Hannah's story is chronological however we are yanked out of it seemingly at random to the modern day.

Eadie Burke (eadieburke) I would say that the story switches back and forth many times from the 1600's to the 1900's. It's a continuous story with different viewpoints. I like the way the book was broken into 4 parts signifying different changes in Hannah's life.
