"Can one book count for multiple categories?"
It wasn't specifically designed that way. In particular, the read a ____ book" ones were not designed to be multiplied. For example, reading a book about a person of color that happens to also have a nature-related cover should not count for both slots. But reading a book about a person of color that is over 200 pages long and that you dedicated 1 hour of straight reading to should count for multiple slots. I hope that makes sense.
Lieke! Yay! Congratulations. You are in the prize pool.

Paula - Ideally, they should be different books. Pretty much any task that starts with "a book" should not be combined with any other task that starts with "a book." They can be combined with other tasks (like reading for an hour straight or reading 200 pages).
The game is designed to be at least minimally challenging - there's a prize, after all - but we wanted casual readers and the more dedicated readers to both have a shot at the prize. That is the reason we sprinkled some lighter tasks in. But if you read a book about a person of color written by a female GoodReads author that just happens to take place in the spring and have a tree on the cover, you could knock the whole board out in one fell swoop and that kind of defeats the purpose of the challenge.
Also, it's probably important to note that "a book" could be anything. It could be a graphic novel, a children's book, a novella... you don't have to read huge tomes to meet those requirements. You can, if you want the extra challenge or have the extra time, but you do not have to.
I hope that makes sense. If not, I apologize for not making that clearer in my first post. If this is not something you guys like, we always ask for feedback at the end of the read-a-thons so members have a chance to influence how the next read-a-thon shapes up. :)
I'm getting a super late start at this but I'm on vacation from one of my jobs next week, which means I can devote much more time to my reading in the next few days :D So here goes...

B2 - Read 200 pages. All you've got to do is read 200 pages before the week is out.
B3 - Read for an hour straight. Totally uninterrupted.
B4 - Read book where a character fights. Any character. For any reason. Whether they're a masked vigilante, a soldier at war, or a teenage girl who likes to wail on her brother. It all counts. Any form of combat will do.
I1 - Read 1,000 pages. By week's end, read 1,000 pages and you've got it.
I2 - Post a picture of your bookshelf. You can post a photo directly to the photo topic or link to you Instagram or Twitter over there to show us what you've got on the shelves.

N2 - Finish a book. If you finish a book during the read-a-thon, you can check this one off your card.
N3 - Read a book by a GoodReads author. Not sure if your book is by a GoodReads author? Check the author's page or check on the book's page where the author's name is.
N4 - A book related to spring. There's plenty of things related to spring! It could be in the title, in the content of the book, or even the images on the cover. Try baseball, rain, spring break, Easter, flowers, green grass, sunshine, umbrellas, bunny rabbits, etc.
G1 - A book about a person of color. Another one that should be fairly straight forward and obvious.
G2 - Play a read-a-thon game. Participate in one of the many other activities that are posted throughout the week. Book Genie game

It doesn't look like we're all playing by the same rules, but I'm trying to go by the rules you initially planned :-)

Emm has clarified the rules in a later post about the "Read a book.." topics should only count for one. I'm just not sure if "Finish a book" is the same.
But it's not a big deal! I'm just one of those students on the front row handing the teacher an apple :-D

So, yes, the official ruling on that is that any square that starts with "a book" should not be combined with any other square that starts with "a book." If you want to, for example, read a book by a female author that is over 200 pages you could count that towards a book, female author, and finishing a book. You could not count it towards a book by a GoodReads author also, if that was the case. In theory, someone could sweep almost the entire board with a single book and that takes both the fun and challenge of it away, in my opinion. Especially since it isn't designed to be all that challenging to begin with. You only need to read 1 book to get B-I-N-G-O in the 2nd row, for instance. You could win it by reading only two books in the B, I, N, and G columns. You could win it by reading just one book in the O column. So, to me, there really shouldn't be a need to combine the "a book" squares. Again, I'm really sorry for not clarifying that.
Editing the original post now! So sorry, guys.

If you are one of the three people I know to have completed this challenge so far and have completed it being ignorant of that rule (not using the same book for multiple "a book" squares), there is time to fix it and I ask that you please do so that we're all playing the same game and everything is fair. I will be checking the posts before the drawing to be sure everyone is compliant and it's fair. And, again, I'll work on being clearer on these things in the future, guys. 1st read-a-thon speed bump. We've never done a prize draw or a Bingo before. :x

HOW TO PLAY
1. Using the card below, try and get 4 down, 4 diagonally, or 5 across (if you're up for the extra challenge) by completing the tasks on the card.
2. You must get 4 down, 4 diagonally, or 5 across in a single line to complete a line and win the game. Anyone who succeeds will be entered into a drawing at the end of the week to win a prize. More on that later!
3. Any of the squares that start with "a book" should not be combined with any other square that starts with "a book." A separate book must be used for each of those tasks.
4. In order to be entered into the drawing, you must post in this topic when you've successfully completed a line on the card. Please advise us which 4 or 5 items you completed.
5. This is an on-going event that will continue all week until the read-a-thon's end.
So let's get started! Here's your card. Go on now! Get reading.
