John Seymour The poor randomizer. We started with a four way tie for Popular Vote between All Quiet on the Western Front, Excellent Women, Tarzan of the Apes and The Bell Jar and the randomizer selected Erich Maria Remarque's All Quiet on the Western Front. (It's always the quiet ones.)

That then left us with a two way tie for Weighted Vote between Excellent Women and The Bell Jar and the randomizer selected Excellent Women. (Nope, not touching that one.)

Finally, everyone else was tossed back into the randomizer and it selected The Yellow Wallpaper, by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. (h/t Connie)

So to re-cap:

Popular Vote Winner: All Quiet on the Western Front, by Erich Maria Remarque

Weighted Vote Winner: Excellent Women, by Barbara Pym

Random Selection: The Yellow Wallpaper, by Charlotte Perkins Gilman

So, what will you be reading in June? One, two or three of our June books? The Monthly Calendar book (or one of them), whatever it (or they) are? Continuing to get Stoned? (Lit-erally?) Still trying to figure out which way you hold the book when you read Leaves?

John Seymour I think I have a copy of Yellow Wallpaper on my Kindle, and it is short, so if I read any it'll probably be that.

I read All Quiet on the Western Front two years ago - the last time we read it - loved it, but not quite ready for a re-read, though I will probably take part in the discussion.

I am continuing to try to slog my way through the Story of the Stone. I had wanted to get much further before our Q3 Seasonal read coming in July.

And, I will almost certainly read our June Calendar Read.

I will read The Yellow Wallpaper and June Calendar Read. John what is your issue with Excellent Women? I don't know anything about the author, is she difficult?

message 4: by Amie (new)

Amie (amie-b) | 80 comments I think this month is the first in group history that all three books that have been chosen have been previous BOTM's.

I have read All Quiet on the Western Front and Excellent Women, but not Yellow Wallpaper. So I will read that, and maybe the June calendar book. Has that been posted yet?

Tracy (tstan) | 559 comments Excellent Women is the only one I haven't read, so I'll read it, and the June read if possible. And I really need to get started on the yearly read.
Plus, Jen's challenge of reading diversely should lead to some interesting list and off list choices..

Yes, I have all three on hand since previous rounds. I'll probably focus on Remarque; I have that one in German and since I'll need to read with a dictionary in hand, I probably won't have time for the others. I've read the other two before anyway, so I might join the discussion.

I also have a backlog of BOTM, seasonal reads and annual read books that I'll work on. I've given up on the calendar challenge.

No issue at all - just my sometimes strange sense of humor and love of word play.

When was Excellent Women read? All Quiet was a BOTM in 2014 and Yellow in 2011, but I don't see Excellent Women in my notes.

I thought it was a BoTM but I found it in my notes as a 2012 holiday read. I knew I had read it with this group, but it's hard to remember if it was for a challenge or BoTM.

I will read Excellent Women since it's the only one I haven't read. I'm also trying to finish volume one of Story of the Stone. The. Will try to read my BOTM backlog

I've read Excellent Women and The Yellow Wallpaper but not All Quiet on the Western Front so that will be my plan. I still have lots to catch up on as far as yearly reads and the current seasonal read and all my other "wanna read" books.

message 12: by John (new)

John Seymour I have a huge BOTM backlog, but I think I'm in pretty good shape on the Story of the Stone. To the extent I am reading at all, I am doing a lot of off list reading including non-fiction. Just started Plato's The Republic.

Out of the three, only Excellent Women is unread (and I am dreading this other Pym...). For various reasons, I have struggled to get through two books in the last three weeks. And I haven't posted any comments or reviews for the last 4 books I read. I don't know how long this sluggishness will last. I might get back to my normal reading pace when I travel to Europe next month for work.

Amanda Carter | 35 comments The only one I haven't read is Excellent Women, and I voted for that. Other two are excellent reads.

message 17: by Becky (new)

Becky I have All Quiet on my physical TBR, so I'll definitely be reading that one. Still tempted to try House of Leaves (it sounds like something I wouldn't normally pick up, and that IS the whole point of joining this group after-all).

If I can get through this last book of Game of Thrones, which is taking FOR. EV. ER., I'll try to add House of Leaves to June's pile.

message 18: by Anna (new)

Anna Fennell | 107 comments I really liked All Quiet when I read it and enjoyed the Yellow Wall ... years ago. Since I do not reread books, I will stick with Excellent Women and focus on the annual read.

message 19: by Sallys (new)

Sallys | 38 comments I will read Excellent Women since I voted for it and its the only one I haven't read.

message 20: by Judith (new)

Judith (jloucks) | 95 comments I've gotten further and further behind as I garden away my reading time this time of year. Still, I'd like to read "Excellent Women" this month if I can work it in with my vacation plans at the beach! I've read the others.

message 21: by Jan (new)

Jan (mrsicks) I'd like to read Excellent Women, but I'm on a No-More-Book-Purchases-Until-Two-Have-Left-The-TBR jag at the moment. So I've downloaded the free Project Gutenberg copy of The Yellow Wallpaper. What? Cheating?

I'm not relishing it. I read Herland this year. Charlotte and I didn't end up friends. Maybe other books will take priority...

Does reading the free download count as one of the two TBR you have to read before you buy a book? :-)
