Victoria Grace (torrritm) | 67 comments I usually read bios. I read everyone's bio from this group!

I have a nice place for Cassandra Clare on my book shelf. I agree though, I haven't liked her stuff it a while. Same with Sarah Dessen. Sarah J. Maas is where it's at these days. Talk about character development. Every book the characters get more real!

Ella, That's how my friend gets me to watch anime's with him. He tells me there's some awesome romance and then I have to at least test the validity of his statement. =]

Ella | 367 comments omg! my cousins does the same thing.. she keeps telling me abt naruto and fairy tale and stuff lol

message 54: by Victoria Grace (new)

Victoria Grace (torrritm) | 67 comments Lol yup those are two popular ones. I can't commit to Fairy tale. It's like hundreds of episodes long...I'd rather be reading!

I struggled with Pride and Prejudice too but I made it my bed time book until I finished it! I don't regret it. I watch the movie once a year.

message 55: by Ella (new)

Ella | 367 comments i actually havn't read any cassandra clare books yet.. thats on my to read list right along side kate daniels series.. i dont pick up series very fast normally since once i strt it i cant stop until im done with the whole thing

message 56: by Ella (new)

Ella | 367 comments exactly! i already watch so many series and i want time to read and i have to squeeze in studying and teaching and eating and bathing somewhere in between it all so i havent yet strted any anime but its right there on my computer. waiting fr me . hehe 24*7 is just not enough hours.

Ugh, you don't know the half of it. It's so boring! I guess I'm just not used to reading classics. I remember it took me around 15 days to read Rebecca.

I'm not even sure why I'm trying with Pride and Prejudice. It's just that it's one of those books everyone expects you've read, like Harry Potter.

I couldn't agree more. SJM, Cassie and Dessen were once my top authors, but now I hesitate to read their stuff.

I know even I struggle with classics n gosh! Im a literature student haha. Ul like pnp once u get past the first few chapters.. I had to read rebecca for school n I think I liked it though I dont remember much. I think my fav. classic is wuthering heights-which also took me many many failed attempts before finall got into it.

message 61: by prag ♻ (new)

prag ♻ (janayanation) Should be pretty obvious by now, but I haven't read Wuthering Heights either.

Victoria Grace (torrritm) | 67 comments THE MOVIE IS THE BEST! Some of it is verbatim the book. In fact, maybe watching the movie will make the book more bearable. You'll know what happens but it animated the book in my head and made everything easier to understand.

Lol 24 hours is not enough. I'm going to have to start cutting out the time I have reserved for that sleeping thing we all do. Life's too short to sleep. =]

message 63: by Ella (new)

Ella | 367 comments The movie is good, though I prefer the bbc mini series . It is exactly like the book. Infact every now and then I watch my favorite scenes . U should definitely watch the movie or the series it will help make the book more enjoyable.

Ahaha, I know, right? Sleeping sucks. It's 12:37am here and am I sleeping? No. I'm reading Champion. I'll probably not go to sleep until I'm done with it. It's hooking!

Marybeth (narutofan14) | 262 comments Hello Red Pandas,
This is Marybeth from Burning Firebirds just stopping by to say hello.
I also love the red panda picture that you guys have. It's very adorable. It also happens to be one of my favorite animals. :)

Also good luck with the Wobble challenge!

message 68: by Kate (new)

Kate ★ (spillsandspoils) | 83 comments Pride and Prejudice is one of my favorites, although I admit that I too had a hard time reading the chapters in the beginning. Once I got the grasp of the language, that's when things began to be interesting and I couldn't stop till I finished it. It's been awhile though since I read it.

message 69: by Kazen (new)

Kazen Pragya wrote: "6 hours, wow! And you're still here, managing everything!?"

Thanks for the concern, guys. :) Luckily it wasn't six straight hours of talking - there was time to fill out forms and explain the insurance system, as well. ;)

Planning my wedding was one of the most stressful experiences I've ever had - so many details to worry about! Hopefully at some point, a week or a few days before, everything will be mostly settled and you'll have some time to breathe, relax, and enjoy. :)

I still haven't tackled Pride and Prejudice past the first few pages. Nothing wrong with it, but I never seem to be in the right mood or mindspace to enjoy it. Some day!

That being said, variations on the book are usually fun! And huzzah historicals. :)

Thanks Kazen! What colors or theme did you go with?

Any advice on the married life?

Kazen Kate wrote: "Thanks Kazen! What colors or theme did you go with? Any advice on the married life? "

I got married here in Japan so it was a Shinto affair and not super themed. I got to wear a kimono, though, so that was pretty awesome!

Not much sage advice here, just keep talking - about the good stuff, of course, but also through rough patches and disagreements. As long as you keep talking you'll figure things out. :)

Mini Challenge Update!

The spreadsheet is here! On it you can see how we're faring against the other teams, as well as team details in the different tabs.

So, for any book that you've finished since June 8th (start date does not matter), if you have a land animal you can enter it for points! To do so make a post like Karen's example below, which I'm shamelessly stealing. :D

-----

Magic Breaks (Kate Daniels, #7) by Ilona Andrews

Land animals in the book as characters (Derek-wolf, Curran-lion, Jim - Jaguar, Andrea - Hyena, Barabas - Mongoose): 50 points
Land animal (lion) on the book: 10 points
Bonus: Someone {name} on Land team {name} has read for 20 points
So my book is worth 80 points! (50+10+20)

---

For the full rules check out the main challenge post here. After you post one of the captains will enter the info and the sheet will automatically update.

If you have any questions let us know!

message 77: by Kazen (new)

Kazen And lucky me, a land animal showed up 81% into the book I just finished. :)

Tell Me Exactly What Happened Dispatches from 911 by Caroline Burau

Dog mentioned: 5 points
Total: 5 points

...it's a start! :D

message 78: by prag ♻ (new)

prag ♻ (janayanation) Tori wrote: "Pragya: The answer is "EVERYTHING is wrong""

Yep I figured that out!?

message 79: by prag ♻ (new)

prag ♻ (janayanation) I have a question, if the animal in my book is being mentioned more than once, will I get more than 5 points (The main character really, really loves her dog!)

message 80: by prag ♻ (last edited Jun 10, 2016 08:09AM) (new)

prag ♻ (janayanation) **UPDATED**

Prodigy (Legend, #2) by Marie Lu

Dog mentioned (Ollie) : 5 points
Read by Karen: 20 points
Total: 25 points

message 81: by Kazen (new)

Kazen Pragya wrote: "I have a question, if the animal in my book is being mentioned more than once, will I get more than 5 points (The main character really, really loves her dog!)"

If it's the same dog it only counts as one mention.

If someone on another land team has read the book we get 20 bonus points... and that includes our mentor Karen who has read this book, yea! :D

~runs off to the spreadsheet~

message 83: by prag ♻ (new)

prag ♻ (janayanation) Meh, I thought so:(

message 84: by Ella (new)

Ella | 367 comments can the animal be the same kind as long as the characters are different> for eg- a bear and a bear cub? is that taken as 2 or 1 since they are 2 diff. characters.

message 85: by prag ♻ (new)

prag ♻ (janayanation) I think that'll be two as they are different characters, but you should probably wait for Kazen's response.

message 86: by Ella (new)

Ella | 367 comments ok.. thnx. also is there a quick way of finding out if anyone else from the other teams has read ur book?

message 87: by prag ♻ (new)

prag ♻ (janayanation) Well, we can look for them having read the book during this challenge if they've used it, but I doubt there's any easy way for finding out if they've ever read the book at all.

I haven't done a search either. I probably should, since I'm sure somebody or the other would have read Prodigy. Does it count if it's someone from your own team?

message 88: by prag ♻ (new)

prag ♻ (janayanation) Nope, I just checked, it has to be from another team:(

message 89: by prag ♻ (new)

prag ♻ (janayanation) Kazen, I've updated my post. I got 20 more points!

message 90: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (melissa98) Does starting the book give us the points or do we have to wait until we finish the book to get the points?

message 91: by prag ♻ (new)

prag ♻ (janayanation) Melissa wrote: "Does starting the book give us the points or do we have to wait until we finish the book to get the points?"

I'm not too sure, but I think you have to finish it in order for it to count. It doesn't matter when you started it, as long as you finish it between the given dates.

prag ♻ (janayanation) Champion (Legend, #3) by Marie Lu
Dog mentioned (Ollie) : 5 points
Read by Karen: 20 points
Total: 25 points

I have a question, should the total include my previous points, or only for this particular book?

message 94: by Ella (new)

Ella | 367 comments I finished reading Falling for Mr. Darcy Falling for Mr. Darcy by KaraLynne Mackrory yesterday -10th June. And suprisingly I found the words 'cat', 'dog', 'pony', 'tiger' and 'horse' in it. So that's 25 points! Hehe. I havent checked if anyone else has read it.

Kazen Ella wrote: "can the animal be the same kind as long as the characters are different> for eg- a bear and a bear cub? is that taken as 2 or 1 since they are 2 diff. characters."

If they are two different characters, like a mama and its baby, that works. There's a limit on how many characters, mentions, etc. that you can have, so we're not worried about them all being different animals.

message 97: by Kazen (new)

Kazen Ella wrote: "ok.. thnx. also is there a quick way of finding out if anyone else from the other teams has read ur book?"

Nothing simple or easy, I'm afraid. You could always ask in the All Land Teams Chatter thread, but seeing how that's like asking the enemy to give you points it doesn't guarantee a response. ;) It's a great place to talk with other Land people, regardless! :D

message 98: by Kazen (new)

Kazen Pragya wrote: "Kazen, I've updated my post. I got 20 more points!"

Thanks for doing that! :D

message 99: by Kazen (new)

Kazen Melissa wrote: "Does starting the book give us the points or do we have to wait until we finish the book to get the points?"

For challenges the finish date, or "read date", is when the points are awarded. For the Wobble proper the start date will also matter (only books started on/after the 17th will be allowed) but for this fun mini challenge we're only worried about the date you finish. :)

If we got points just for starting books I'd be a champion at it! Booo DNFs, boooo. :P

So happy to have you! Horror can give me nightmares, too - if I do read a scary book it's usually during the summer because there are so many hours of daylight. ;) I hope that things go well with your sister over the course of the Wobble... maybe it will be an incentive to stay on her good side for the next 18 weeks. ;) Welcome!
