BINGO R9 | Discussion Thread

The BINGO FAQ link in Team 7 goes to the main www.goodreads.com page. I checked another team's link and it does the same thing.
Can't wait to get started!!!

Questions, concerns, comments about shelves? The game itself?

I just looked up this book to see what shelves it works for and it shows -1 for vampires:

and while i have the cover posted, would you say it's more pinky or purply?

That's what most of us do, Melissa. :)

That's what I thought - just wanted to make sure (so much easier) - I'm assuming it has to be exact - on Shifter shelf not Shifters shelf

Melissa, Steph usually leaves us a link the the shelf that we need to use.

Yes, it has to be exact.

I second that...I can barely read my bingo card at all and that's with glasses!

For instance in

Do I have it right?

(All the headless covers are for some reason cracking me up today).

Flying coffins should count as a mode of transport. Steph? Unconventional modes of transportation?

Here goes ....
Q: Regina wrote: "Thanks Steph! So the call for the week could be any one of the 24 categories? Or will the categories be cross combined?"
A: Yes, one of the 24 "categories" listed on the shelf announcement page will be called each week. As always, they will be used only once. Some are similar in nature, but they each stand alone as a single shelf. Instead of some "personal shelves" and "GR shelves", this round consists of 4 different types or group of shelves that will be used.
Q: ~Melissa~ wrote: "Quick question for the spaces such as Shifter/Vampire etc - instead of going through all the pages can I go to the book of my choice and just make sure that it is logged as shifter/vampire etc."
A: You could go straight to the book page for a book you know has vampires, but (as many will tell you) books with vamps are not always shelved that way AND books with no vamps whatsoever are sometimes shelved incorrectly. So, while that's a good shortcut, it's not always a guarantee that you'll find it there. In order for the book to count (on a shelf announcement containing a direct link to a GR shelf), the book must be found on one of the many pages shown.
Q: Amy ~Lover of Books~ wrote: "Is it possible to make the Bingo card a little bigger or something else? I can't see small font from afar. I can make out some of it, but not all the items."
A: I'm really sorry, but try as I might, I cannot get the cards to show up any clearer or larger than they already are. GR limits image width to 400 and, to appear correctly, the cards must be much larger. Next round I'll try to play around with them so that they're clearer. For now, you might consider clicking on the link to the image and printing it for your reference.

Julianne wrote: "Would this count for mode of transport since she is being transported? Living Dead in Dallas"
AH wrote: "Flying coffins should count as a mode of transport. Steph? Unconventional modes of transportation?"
A: Modes of Transportation ~ Yes. All of these examples would count. Unconventional and conventional modes are allowed. If someone is "getting around" on it/them, it's good. :)
Q: D.G. wrote: "Hey Steph - Question about the 'Supefied' category. I assume that supe in question MUST look like a supe for it to count?
For instance in Shield of Winter"
D.A. - don't mock bully victims who suffered more than a star rating - wrote: "Also on the supes covers -- does supernatural include religious (angels, devils, demons) and folklore/mythological (dragon, gryphon, unicorn, centaur, gorgon) as well or just vaguely human forms showing sure abilities/magic (like vampires, humans clearly casting magic about, werewolves/shifters transforming, etc.)?"
A: Supefied ~ For a book to qualify, the supe/character shown must be represented in their supe form or displaying their ability (such as DA mentioned, "clearly casting magic about"). This includes, but is not limited to, dragon, unicorn, werebear/cat/wolf/bird, vamp, witch, demon (horns, black wings), angel (halo, white wings), etc. A character who has supernatural abilities but appears on the cover simply looking like a wo/man would not work. Sorry.
Q: Mary: Harry Dresden's Love Slave wrote: "How can a book have negative shelving?"
A: Ya got me. GR bug. Someone shelved it then deleted it and GR hasn't caught up yet? Who knows 'round here, could be any number of reasons. But, if you really wanna read it and it's on the shelf (negative or not) it counts.
Hopefully I didn't miss anyone. If my answers only proved to confuse things further, lemme know.
A note about the new shelf types: There are only 6 GR shelves in this round. Those will have a direct link to a specific shelf here on GR. Books must be found on that specific shelf (no variations) to qualify. For the others, it's completely up to you where you find your book. You could search through some of the GR Listopias for "headless" options. You could scroll through your shelves. It's up to you - there will be no link provided for those. The cover colors are self-explanatory. I've tried to combine those that are similar in nature, but you are welcome to use those that fall within the range of the color listed.
A breakdown and mini explanation for each is included on the shelf announcement page. The examples listed are simply suggestions, not requirements (aside from those with direct GR links).
If you aren't sure, Sandra, Judithe & I can help you determine if one qualifies or not. Just post your question here and one of us will answer it. :D
Lauren wrote: "Team #3 in now Reading Ménage..rie and I am the captain!"
Thanks, Lauren, I've updated your team thread :D

If on a page other than "1" glance up at url/address and you can jump ahead to a specific page by changing what number page=#. For example, if you are on page 4 of the witches shelf (book shelved 64 times as witches) then change the 4 to 53 and you are on page 53 (where people shelved a book 3 times as witches).
ignore spaces inserted for visibility: htt ps:/ /www. goodreads. com/ shelf/ show/ witches?page=4 (Actual link for page 4 is https://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/...)
Change the 4 to 53: htt ps:/ /www. goodreads. com/ shelf/ show/ witches?page=53 (Actual link for page 53 is https://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/... )
Like playing the game, easier to do than explain.

Question: For the "Supefied" shelf, is a tatoo of a supernatural somewhere on the sufficient? For example, is
acceptable for the Supefied shelf? (There is tatoo of a dragon on the man's back).

It would work the same as always...we'll pick one shelf or category each week. After all, each shelf/category stands for only one spot in each team's bingo card so it needs to be called verbatim and only called once.

If you already know that a book was shelved by people in the shelf you're looking, there's no need to double check in which page of the direct link it is. For instance, if I check the Top Shelves for

Shelf ... pacing .... shelf ... pacing ....

I like the new (new to me, anyway) non-shelf categories.
And remember to look at other editions. I have a couple of books I'm planning to read that worked for several shelves just because they have so many editions out. One book works for pink, purple, green, superfied, no people and 2 people just in the cover options using different editions.

Thank you. :)

I'm off to bed so I can get up to post the first shelf in the morning :)

Looking forward to the first shelf!

Yeah I just checked the time zone converter to be sure lol

Correct D.A., you read the book you have if any of the covers qualify.
AND remember all books must be at least 200 pages long and no graphic novels.
Now off to post the shelf :)

No worries if not, I found some other books on the list but would really like to continue the IAD series if approved :D
