John Seymour 3. In this volume we have returned to the main characters. Discuss the changes in one or more of the main characters—personality traits, motivations, and inner qualities.
• Why do characters do what they do?
• Are their actions justified?
• Describe the dynamics between characters (in a
marriage, family, or friendship).
• How has the past shaped their lives?
• Do you admire or disapprove of them?
• Do they remind you of people you know?

I am taking Bao-Yu and Dai-Yu as the main characters and honestly they really haven't changed much they both come across as childish drama queens.

Pip | 1822 comments Both Bao-Yu and Dai-Yu seem to be so sickly and so prone to illnesses brought on by their mental state that I agree with Book, it has become quite tiresome. I kept giving Dai-Yu the benefit of the doubt. She seems to have had tuberculosis and was probably dying anyway, so her broken-heartedness was just a supernatural excuse for her demise. The machinations of the family in deceiving each other about all sorts of things leading up to the massive deception of Bao-Yu and Bao-Chai's wedding are Machiavellian rather than anything I can relate to in my life!
