Need feedback: Course & Book -- Principles of Writing
When first starting to write in 2009, I inhaled and underlined every critical phrase of this book. Now it, and a 14-page Annotation of Stephen's book I created, are mandatory study for my 25 Creative Writing students. I published my bipolar memoir Episodes in 2012 with CreateSpace, now it's down for a complete reimagining. Anyway, I been writing 7,000 words per day since retiring, in all genres, poetry also. I'd like to present the following to you for your insight and comments if you are pleased to respond. These are from one of my books and class seminars on writing that will be offered in 2017. Here they go: Principles For Excellent Writing
1 Love to write, or don’t try. A poor effort, an untrained effort, is equal to no effort at all. 2 Write honestly and openly, until the tears flow out of your eyes and the laughs make you fall off your chair, or don’t continue writing. You must, every writer simply must, KNOW YOURSELF EXTREMELY WELL, and you must be serious about your writing, and joyful -- at the same time. Or, do not continue. That means constantly challenging your Mind, Spirit, Heart, and Body –and your assumptions about people and life. You must, in order to become an acclaimed author or poet, be fully engaged and committed to the process of writing well in every piece you write. Only honesty will build the foundation of excellent writing. You must be able to discover the full potential of the attributes, abilities and powers within you. You must know your strengths, weaknesses and limitations. Once you realize those, you will then discover your very soul and true heart’s desires. 3 You must understand how to write, not only 100% of English's rules etc, but up to 130% or 200% so you can break or mold them to your purpose. Your competition is 100,000 books published EVERY DAY. You MUST be serious about your writing. That is, about the business of writing. You must equally understand and assimilate the knowledges and processes contained in the writing business – marketing, promotion, sales, and the bad from the best, not just the “good” publishing platforms available. (These points are just a few to come -- Rod) In development now: Rules For Developing The Best Techniques – Your Author’s “Voice” -- Am I on the right track? Close or far away?
