Please help review my new crime thriller, "Assassinato." I'm new to Goodreads, so comment if there is another way I should post by chapters for review.
Chapter One (Excerpt)
The early morning silence is shattered as the doors of the Viking Lounge are kicked open and music explodes from deep within the smoke-filled bar laden with testosterone, sweat, and alcohol.
With the interruption of all things quiet in downtown Juneau, an inebriated University of Southeast Alaska sophomore stumbles out after a night of partying. As he emerges, Janice Caleb is pissed she did not accomplish her goal of finding a sugar daddy to help her financially through the next semester in return for some personal favors.
Still dark, it will be half-an-hour before the early morning rays even hint that a new day approaches. Taking a few steps down Front Street, Janice stumbles as the shadows of the downtown buildings linger overhead. A few more steps and the heel of one of her $200 stilettos breaks off sending her into a rage of nearly unintelligible and vulgar rants.
Spotting a lone taxi parked down the next block she walks toward it only to see it pull away as she draws near. Totally pissed, she flips the driver the bird then throws an empty bottle at the departing vehicle.
Looking around, she decides to cut down Seward Street to get to Egan where some traffic should be passing by and she could hitch a ride back to campus. Against her better judgment, which is severally impaired by alcohol, pot, and lack of sleep, Janice cuts around the back of one of the buildings. Although a street, it looks more like an uninviting back alley. As she walks, she pulls her cell phone from her purse and begins to scroll through the menu.
Janice is too screwed up to see her vicious attacker who comes from behind, knocking her to the street with a flurry of kicks and punches. Janice manages to get up only to be knocked down again—stunned from repeated strikes to her head and face.
Fighting for her life, she kicks wildly as tears, running mascara, and blood covers her youthful face. Still on the ground, Janice begins crawling away, hoping it all was only a dream, but she is brought back into reality as the assailant now brandishes a long, thin blade—reflecting flashes of light from a lone street light.
End of excerpt. I will provide complete chapter after someone comments if this is the right format/place to post by chapter. I appreciate your help.
