So I am, Lady Belleza (your fearless leader), also know as Bel, or Bella. I am single, live in NYC, no SO, children or pets, just an iPhone and a scary brain. I have a very warped sense of humor (some say, some say it's perfect).

My interest in true crime came out of an interest in psychopathy and the psychology of "evil". I am fairly new to a lot of the villains and cases but I have been reading a lot of true crime recently. I have learned a lot on this forum and I have fun! My sense of humor can be a bit off beat at times too. :)

I was a law enforcement officer and emergency medical technician for more than 20 years and retired nearly two years ago. I live in northern Colorado with now just one dog, a blue heeler named Carter who is one odd puppy. No SO, no kids. I like outdoor activities and travel, though the last time I combined the two I fell down a hill in Italy and broke my leg.
I first joined this particular group when it was a Shelfari group, then followed it here. I started reading true crime as a teen and then continued during my LEO years. I still prefer to read non-fiction of various types.

My name is Hari (pronounced Ha-Re) and have been oddly interested in True Crime since my tweens. I am retired from emergency nursing (level 1 trauma center-type) and now have to divide my time between watching "Investigation Discovery"-type videos and knitting (which I can do at the same time), and reading, (to which I must devote full attention). A recent member, not as interested in interaction on social media as in finding out what is new and captivating in the genre.
I live with two cats, and close to my daughter and son-in-law but no longer have an SO. Life is good.

Just now I opened my Sunday edition of the Boston Globe and found the "Ideas" section is titled "The Issue of Crime" Ten short articles on interesting crimes committed in the greater Boston area. Serendipity...
Other than that, I am in the middle of "The Mad Sculptor: the maniac, the model, and the murder that shook the nation" by Harold Schechter. Next read will be "Son" by Jack Olsen.
Thanks for asking.

Hi all; I didn't see an introductions thread....so thought I'd comment in here; hope that is okay. I'm new to the group...been on Goodreads for about 2 years but not very active and trying to change that this year. I read a lot of different genres, including true crime (mostly about serial killers). I'm currently making my way, slowly, through the book "Raven: The Untold Story of the Rev. Jim Jones and his People" by Tim Reiterman. "

I just recently finished Serial Killers: The Method and Madness of Monsters by Peter Vronsky. It was very insightful and contained numerous case studies of killers I had never even heard of. At the moment, I have several unread books ( not TC) that I'm trying to finish so I can donate them. However, I found a book on torture killers at a thrift store that I'm hoping to start soon!

By any chance would that be Torture Killers edited by Rose Mandelsberg?

I read The Girl in the Leaves recently, and it was so meh, I’m gunshy about picking my next TC. I’m sure this funk will end soon. At least I hope it does.

I've been interested in true crime for a while, especially when it comes to serial killers (much to the dismay of my dad he thinks my fascination with the psychology of serial killers and learning why they do what they do is some sort of sign that he should be worried about lol). I'm not really sure what really kicked off my interest in the genre.... I suppose maybe it started years ago with a long forgotten series that wasn't around for very long called "Close to Home." That kicked off my interest in criminal prosecution and I suppose it just sort of evolved from there until I watched From Hell which got me really into studying Jack the Ripper, and the horror flick Stay Alive which got me studying Bathory and others from there. I'm also a psych buff, I'm all for getting into people's heads and finding out what makes them tick, what's different about the anatomy of their brains and their psychology that drives to deviate from what's considered the "norm" or "accepted" behavior or to do incredibly sick and terrible things. I'm also a sucker for a good mystery and love sitting and trying to solve things. So, needless to say, unsolved serial killings are at the top of my true crime obsession list. I actually recently signed up for The Hunter a Killer subscription box, and while I took a break from True Crime for a while, my anticipation over jumping into this game (even though it's fiction based) sort of kicked me back into it again, and so here I am. :)

Nothing at the moment, but I was at the library yesterday and found a bunch of stuff there that I'll have to check out once I return the ones I checked out for the magazine I do some work for (up and coming online mag for readers and writers called Books and Quills Magazine). And I picked up Mindhunter: Inside the FBI's Elite Serial Crime Unit while I was at target a couple days ago that I plan to start soon.
And yeah, I wish there were more books on that too. It's a tough thing to work through especially when it feels like there are so few resources out there. Might just have to see about contributing toward fixing that and writing something up myself lol.
