Stalker (Joona Linna, #5) by Lars Kepler

Thank you to Net Galley, to the publishers and to the authors, as Lars Kepler is two people !

My first novel by this team, Lars Kepler, although fifth in the series..

Firstly the length of this book, makes me give the book was star less, yes it is too long at nearly 640 pages...

Secondly, lots of pages means lots of characters, lots of plots, sub plots.

A video is sent to the National Crime Investigation Department in Stockholm. It shows a normal woman in her own home, doing nothing very exciting. By the time the police identify her, she’s dead. More victims are found, and it becomes clear that the killer is not going to stop. Each video sent to the police means another butchered woman. With the chilling fact they cannot trace who the person is till it is too late..

Margot Silverman is tasked with catching the killer. Heavily pregnant, she’s determined to solve the case before going on leave. Erik Maria Bark is a hypnotist who thinks the crimes may be linked to a case he worked on years ago.

And everyone thought Joona Linna was dead!

As mentioned I have not read previous books in the series, and I found Stalker a little confusing at first. There are lots of characters and plot elements that call back to earlier novels, and it’s a lot to take in at once. So I do suggest that you read all previous four books.

Due the large size of the book, it lacks the pulse rating pace of many books I enjoy to read, but gains a good pace for the last 20% of the book.

Different plots, lots of geography on Sweden do interrupt the pace and also following so many characters also effects the pace.

Really a battle in my own head whether a three star or a four star(especially for the last part of the book), but when a book takes two weeks to read and is a struggle, then really this is a three star.

Good points, but maybe a few negative points.

My honest thoughts and review.

One question for you readers is this a Crime Thriller or a psychological thriller ?

I usually go for a psychological thriller when it's about a serial killer who plays games with their victims or the investigators. When it's just a "plain" murder I'd say it's a crime thriller :)

PattyMacDotComma | 1244 comments Quirky first novel Quiet Until the Thaw by Alexandra Fuller, channelling her 'inner Lakota' to show the plight and humour of the disenfranchised American Indians (as they are always called in the book).

Another 4.5★ read for me. Who'd have though that yummy Sourdough could lead to such an intriguing story? Author Robin Sloan, that's who. You may know him as the author of Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore, which was equally delightful.
