Thanks! I've already read it and I know a lot of people are reading it now, so I figured it would be a safe bet for halfway through the month!

I would like to know what you think of Dorothy Must Die after you finish it. I've had my eye on it because I find the concept interesting.

I just started Freak of Nature (IFICS, #1) by Julia Crane the other day, and even though I don't like reading on the Kindle App on my laptop, I got sucked in and read 1/4 of it in one night. I'm a slow reader, but it was pretty engrossing. Love the cover, too.

I finished Going Vintage by Lindsey Leavitt I really enjoyed it. It was lite, cute and refreshing. I don't I really enjoyed all the characters. I listened to it so the narrator made it even more fun. She was fabulous at bring the characters to life. I would love to see ABC Family make it into a movie.

Now I'm onto Dangerous Creatures Dangerous Creatures (Dangerous Creatures, #1) by Kami Garcia

PS: I've Read Dorothy Must Die. Dorothy Must Die (Dorothy Must Die, #1) by Danielle Paige I liked it. It was a very different and darker OZ and although you might not actually want Dorothy to die(especially if you picture her as Judy Garland)...you do want her stopped...So Dorothy Must Die.

I'm going to put Dorothy Must Die (Dorothy Must Die, #1) by Danielle Paige on my list because I'd like to see how the author can convince you to be on the outs with Dorothy.

Kim (kmdoubleday) Has anyone read The Supernatural Enhancements? I just read a review from my friend karen and now my interest is peaked....

I will confess: I like gimmicky stuff... when it works... and when the hype is not there. Hype kills.

Jessica (jessicam143) | 13 comments I just started "Hunting Kat" by Kelley Armstrong while I'm waiting for her book "The Summoning" to become available from the digital library{It has great ratings so I figured I would check out some of her other work in the mean time) Also I'm just killing time until I can run out on the 27th and buy "City of Heavenly Fire"(The Mortal Instruments #6)which I'm dying to read!!!

message 24: by Kim (new)

Kim (kmdoubleday) I think the maze runner is a good story but the writing was lacking. The second one,, the scorch trials was written better. I have the third one on my table to start. This might be a good movie/book read

Lesa Howard (lesahoward) | 33 comments So I've been trying to listen (I read and do audio because I'm in the car a lot. A lot.)to The Naturals (The Naturals, #1) by Jennifer Lynn Barnes but the girl reading it sounds like she's half asleep. So. Slow. Whispers. Yawn. I really want to like it, but I'm not sure I can stand to listen to it without falling asleep driving down the highway.

Yeah I've came across some that were like that for me as well, where the first one was good enough and left me wanting to read the second book and the second one turn out even better than the first :-) well thanks for your view of what you thought, it's always helpful to hear different point of view before reading series.

Ron Estrada I just finished Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock. It was well written, but a bit depressing and the author's cheap shots at Christians left me cold. I probably won't be reading another from him.

I read the summary. It does sound dark. What exactly do you mean by "cheap shots at Chritstmas"?

message 29: by Ron (new)

Ron Estrada One of the characters is a teenage girl who hands out tracts at the train station. The tracts are the old-fashioned variety that depicts kids burning in hell, that sort of thing. When Leonard quizzes her with very basic questions about her faith, she can't give good answers. She looks like a fool and Leonard's thoughts on Christianity are portrayed as insightful, though any youth group kid I've ever met could easily give him good arguments.

Ron Estrada Lena wrote: "I'm reading Maus, Vol. 2 And Here My Troubles Began (Maus, #2) by Art Spiegelman. It's one of the most intense holocaust books I've read."

I may have to read that one. Though I'm often depressed from these stories. I just finished Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy, and he taught some teenage boy's in sunday school for short time. They were disruptive kids and "unteachable." Bonhoeffer taught them. One of my "to be written" ideas is to take one of those boys and have him lead a youth resistance against the Nazis. While it was a horrible period of history, it raised up some incredible heroes.

It was the Maus volumes that first made me a serious graphic novel fan, and I realized that comic books could be so powerful. That was nearly 20 years ago now! I've been thinking about re-reading it recently, but it's so dark that I'll need to be in the right mental space.

I think The Wall was my first graphic. Also dark, but I really loved it.

edit: fairly certain I chose the wrong book cover there...

Rebecca Audette (rebeccacolleen) trying to finish Awakening Foster Kelly by Cara Rosalie Olsen I was actually given it in Kindle form from the author and so I have to read it on my iPod screen which is cracked, and as a 670 page book it is taking FOREVER! But so far it's amazing. Next up is Beautiful Disaster (Beautiful, #1) by Jamie McGuire :) but I cannot start until I finish Awakening Foster Kelly!

Finished Boxers (Boxers & Saints, #1) by Gene Luen Yang in a couple days. It was even better than Saints (Boxers & Saints, #2) by Gene Luen Yang .

Went to the library and stocked up on audios. It's a miracle if I read half of what I check out. Everything looks so good!

Library Lady 📚 | 299 comments Mod
Okay, back to contemporary for a bit.

Trying to get into Ask the Passengers by A.S. King but so far, it's just not catching my interest. Thought maybe I wasn't in the mood for contemporary, but I started The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks by E. Lockhart and was immediately hooked. So I may just give up on Ask the Passengers.

Life is too short to read books you don't like!

Library Lady 📚 | 299 comments Mod
finished Frankie and it was awesome!

Tried Meant to Be by Lauren Morrill but I couldn't do it. I love the cover, but no.

Moved on to Legend (Legend, #1) by Marie Lu , which I'm surprisingly engrossed in, though it's more dystopian than I usually read.

And just started If I Stay (If I Stay, #1) by Gayle Forman for the challenge, so I can go see it with my sister in August.

Library Lady 📚 | 299 comments Mod
Almost done with Legend (Legend, #1) by Marie Lu , which is sooo good and exciting. Haven't been reading anything else because I'm so into it.

Let us know how you like Fangirl. We read that for group read a couple months ago.

I'm reading Skinny by Donna Cooner , about a girl who gets gastric bypass surgery at 15. Eek! What a thought.

I stalled midway through Prodigy (Legend, #2) by Marie Lu but I'm going to try to finish it, even though I'm really mad at Day right now!

Library Lady 📚 | 299 comments Mod
I finished Prodigy (Legend, #2) by Marie Lu but I'm not sure if I'll finish the series.

I'm about to start I, Robot (Robot, #0.1) by Isaac Asimov and I'm also reading our group read book, Great by Sara Benincasa .

message 47: by Shannon (last edited Aug 04, 2014 11:16AM) (new)

Shannon (kaylees_mom) | 12 comments Fangirl was awesome. I've already requested a copy of Landline from the library.

Unless you are really interested in the Legend series, I would't bother with Champion (Legend, #3) by Marie Lu . The pacing was so much slower than the previous two. It took me forever finish it.

I'm currently reading The Fallen (An Enemy Novel) by Charlie Higson and Dead Until Dark (Sookie Stackhouse, #1) by Charlaine Harris . Next on my list is The Here and Now by Ann Brashares .

Library Lady 📚 | 299 comments Mod
I had to return The Here and Now by Ann Brashares to the library before I finished. I'm still planning to read it, even though I missed the group read.

message 49: by Lesa (new)

Lesa Howard (lesahoward) | 33 comments Kind of been off the grid for a while. Marketing/promoting my new novel is time consuming.

But I finally have time to read again. Halfway through Catch a Falling star by Kim Culbertson. Wasn't sure I was going to like it at first, but feeling pretty good about it now.
