Starting with Uncle Ebenezer, what a mean man. The Captain and others along the way that swindled him more than helped him.
The uncle's duplicity toward his nephew when he sold him to the captain to be taken to America's as a slave.
The Uncle selling him to the Captain.
David going into the captains room under the false pretense of helping them get weapons and betraying them.
The Captain betraying Alan.
David tricking his Uncle into confessing.

Even apparently harmless characters are duplicitous. For instance, the "bonnie lass" who helps them cross the firth.
