Starting with Uncle Ebenezer, what a mean man. The Captain and others along the way that swindled him more than helped him.

The uncle's duplicity toward his nephew when he sold him to the captain to be taken to America's as a slave.

Even apparently harmless characters are duplicitous. For instance, the "bonnie lass" who helps them cross the firth.
