5. Having a moral code—an idea of loyalty, honor, and "what is right"—is very important to most characters in Kidnapped, but many of them have very different conceptions of these ideas. What are Alan and David's different opinions these issues, and what effects do these differences have upon their relationship as well as the plot?

I remember that Alan gambling away David's money was a really big deal. David was ultimately the bigger man and continued on his journey with Alan.

They differ politically and in loyalty to the king yet they shared many strengths in character and were able to respect the other.

The gambling was a fault or weakness in Alan but it also was a lesson that Davie needed to learn. He needed to learn forgiveness and to move on rather than poison himself with his anger. The lesson he learned helped him deal with his deceitful and bitter uncle.

I agree with Kristel. There political views were different but they both appreciated the other as someone they could trust and who had strong morals.
