Addicted to YA discussion

Read this book about 15 years ago, can't remember the title for the life of me.

A young teen/tween boy knows he's gifted intellectually, but discovers it's more than that. Finds out he's a descendent in a long line of gifted heroes that includes the likes of daVinci and John Lennon. Boy goes on to uncover an evil plot and fight against the villain (maybe his father? Maybe in a quarry?). Pretty sure it's set in USA in modern times, yet, as you can see, my memory of the plot is a bit hazy. I'm somewhat confident the book is no longer in print.

Does this ring any bells for anyone?

Doesn't ring a bell, but it sounds like a great book. I hope someone can help!
