What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

I've got this idea that I read about a science fiction story with the following plot point.
Aliens come into contact with earthlings. The aliens find the hugely diverse range of animals, insects, fishes, etc. on earth, unusual and not found on other known planets.
I never read the story, so I don't know if it really exists or is just a plot idea I happened to see somewhere.

ETA: The story would have come out no later than the 1980s.

No, I don't think that's it. I don't recall any morphing aspect. The humans were humans only and the same for the aliens.

The Secret Visitors by James White has this premise. But spoileralso, the other inhabited planets didn't have the weather changes that we do on Earth. Interesting book if you can find a copy of it.

Thanks, Ann. I'll try and get it through interlibrary loan. It's from the right time period. I forgot to mention the story would be from the 1980s or earlier. I'll add that to the first post.

My local interlibrary loan has put a temporary restriction on requests and I haven't been able to ask for it yet.

On *your* requests, or requests in general? If everybody, did they say why? Is it a budget cut thing? Important questions, so I can make sure my libraries are doing things up-to-snuff.

Everybody's requests. They're doing a software change and everybody is limited to one request until it's done. I already had one in the queue when it started.

OK, I finally got to request The Secret Visitors through interlibrary loan today. Usually takes at least 3 weeks to show up.
