message 1: by Roger (new)

Roger Manning | 4 comments I am Roger Manning the author of only one book, The Narrow Road. When you go to my book it says that I am also the author of two other books, neither of which I have heard of or care to be associated with. How do I remove them from my profile?

I have read the Author Program instructions and sent the information, but they are still there.

Thank you

Roger Manning

rivka Roger, your request to join the Goodreads Author Program has not been reviewed yet. It can take a couple days, depending on how many other authors have applied that week.

If your request included the information about which books are your and which are not, that will get sorted out when your request is reviewed.

Thank you Rivka. I am a Christian and my audience will obviously be Christian. One of those books has a title that is extremely embarrassing, to say the least, when it comes up on my page; so embarrassing that I didn't even want to repeat it here. I guess, in the meantime, I will just have to be patient and hope no one sees it and thinks it is mine.

Eric Westfall (eawestfall) | 195 comments Roger,

I can certainly see why you don't want to be associated with "that" title.

How about this as a temporary fix? Modify the blurb so that the first thing anyone reads is a statement in bold along the order of: "I am not the author of the other two books listed on this page."

Then when the good folks at GR get the attributions removed, you can just delete the blurb sentence.

Just my USD .02.

Paula (paulaan) | 332 comments Since he does not have an claimed author profile yet, he will not be able to edit the books,

And that is also not appropriate for the description field in the mean time.

Respectfully, Paula, do you have another solution to the problem? The title at issue is patently an offensive one in the genre in which Roger writes, and surely there has to be some way to make it very clear on that page that he isn't the author.

Some algorithm or other has probably caused the attributions, but Roger shouldn't have to be embarrassed or lose potential readers because of something he has no control over.

Even if it requires a GR moderator or librarian or whoever to provide a temporary "fix."

Just more of my USD .02.

Eric

Roger Manning | 4 comments Thank you both for you help and concern. Please don't worry about it. I believe God will take care of it in his good time. Bless you.

Sally (brasscastle) | 261 comments This sounds to me like one of those electronic-virus 'worms' has infiltrated the system, corrupting your information. If the title of one of these books is so foul that you can't in good conscience repeat it here, it may well be a dummy of some kind, manufactured digitally within a worm's program to mimic a real book.

Not that I am saying that this was deliberate, on Goodreads or anyone else's part, but it reminds me of some years ago when a local cable-TV provider bundled the Disney channel with the Playboy channel. That was just plain mean, forcing parents who wanted the Disney channel to put blocks on the Playboy channel and to pay more because they were getting two channels.

I don't know the first thing about 'worms' or 'bots' or other electronic viruses, but I do know that such things can be programmed and let loose into the cyberworld. My opinion about such things (which in this case may be a worm or may not be) is that those who create such things and infest us with them really need something productive to do.

In the words of Eric, just my USD .02. And in your words, God will take care of it in His good time. He has the ability to turn it into good, and it may be His intent that you learn a specific lesson from this distraction. May He shower you with blessings.

Roger Manning | 4 comments Thank you all for your concerns and support but the question is now moot. I am now officially a Goodreads Author and my book listings are correct, just as Rivka promised, and in just a matter of hours.

Blessings,

rog

Scott Burkett | 2 comments I am in a similar position, though I was not aware of the books written by the other "Scott Burkett" when I submitted my GR Author Application. Is there a way that I can have the other 2 books removed from my author profile? The only book I've written is "Joes: The Cold War Diaries, Volume 1".

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

Cheers.
Scott

Michael Timmins | 4 comments I am going this route, since I have e-mailed goodreads twice now and have had no response. I have a review on my book that I am pretty positive is not real. The persons name in nom, and they just joined in March, I am the only book they have listed as read. They are listed as being from Toledo, which is where I live, and at the time of the review there was only one copy of the book given to anyone in Toledo, and they haven't read it yet. When i try to flag this review as I am supposed to, the 'flag' button is not there. The like button is there, but no flag. Can someone please deal with this issue?
