Lára | 479 comments Hello, here we are in the last month of the year. Share here what are you reading.

I just finished Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis and with it completed my goal of reading 100 books.
Now going to finish some books I started earlier this year:
The Cloud Roads
The Unconsoled
The Privilege of the Sword

I probably won't be participating in the group read this month. I really need to read something more in keeping with the spirit of the season. When I finish The Screwtape Letters I'm going to read in this order: Hogfather, A Christmas Carol, The Chimes (another Dickens holiday tale) and finally for a tad darker tale Krampus: The Yule Lord.

I tried to get us a Christmas-y read. I'm reading Paper and Fire

Yes you did and I really appreciated it. But it's ok and in the words of Tiny Tim "God bless us everyone".

Finished The Screwtape Letters and I must say, it was a really excellent read. Mr. Lewis has written a deep tale through the voice of a senior demon to his junior nephew and it is presented in such a way as to be really entertaining and thought provoking at the same time. It's the type of tale that can be enjoyed by anyone regardless of one's belief. Started Hogfather. From the very start I became engrossed and by reading this humorous tale I can honestly say Sir Terry Pratchett is going to be greatly missed.

I know that with the holidays everyone is busy but I just wanted to give a reminder that we have the February nominations up. Just saying because we don't really have a lot of books to choose from yet. (Didn't really know where to put this, hope it's ok.)

Well, I finished Hogfather. I gave it 4 stars (really a 4.5 stars). What a delightful tale. Mr. Pratchett wove a deceptively complex story in the form of a silly, humorous mystery type tale. The story had everything, assassins, Death, thieves, "the Auditors", The Hogfather, boogiemen, the tooth fairy, lock smiths, psychopaths, professors, talking ravens, a miniature version of death, "Oh Gods" and I'm sure I forgot something. Really nice tale. Makes me realize how much I miss Terry Pratchett. I have now started A Christmas Carol

Finished A Christmas Carol and gave it 5 stars. What can one say? This is what the true Christmas spirit is all about. I love this story and am Glad I read it again this year. Now moved on to The Chimes.

As I think about it, I'm not sure if I've ever read A Christmas Carol, but I have the two-CD set of Patrick Stewart's one-man show that I've listened to many times over the years.

If it's the audiobook, then I bet it was really good. I bet Patrick Stewart would be great doing The Christmas Carol.

Joseph | 1651 comments Finished River of Stars (stunningly and unsurprisingly good) and started Catalyst - A Rogue One Novel by James Luceno because: Star Wars!

He's in my favourite movie version. I've read it a few times, usually half the night before Christmas and the other half on the day.

I've never seen the movie version with Patrick Stewart. I'll have to look into that.

Elise (ghostgurl) | 1028 comments I finished A Dog's Purpose. Heartwarming sentimental read. Will make you laugh and cry.

Now I'm reading Firefight. Always seem to find myself gravitating towards Sanderson, and technically the start of my goal for next year to complete more series.

Finished Catalyst - A Rogue One Novel and started Battlefront - Twilight Company.

I finished The Chimes. Another wonderful tale by Dickens. Just a shade below A Christmas Carol but still a really great story. More to do with New Year's but still a perfect book for Christmas reading. Before I move on to Krampus: The Yule Lord, I'm going to try and squeeze in a short audiobook that was only 99 cents on audible.com for a deal of the day: The Leadership Secrets of Santa Claus: How to Get Big Things Done in YOUR "Workshop" All Year Long.

message 19: by Sean (new)

Sean Nicley Full Star Wars mode as well!
Done with:
Dark Disciple
Ahsoka
and reading:
Tarkin
Catalyst - A Rogue One Novel

If that is not enough, staying up on Rebels and working my way through the six seasons of the Clone Wars!!

Less than 48 hours until movie time!!

24 hours from now, I will have seen it once. 48 hours from now, I'm hoping to have seen it twice.

Can't read Ahsoka quite yet -- I need to finish watching Clone Wars and Rebels first -- but also on the agenda are Bloodline and Aftermath - Life Debt.

Finished The Leadership Secrets of Santa Claus: How to Get Big Things Done in YOUR "Workshop" All Year Long. It was a bit cheesy in it's presentation but it had several good business ideas that could be used. Rated it 4 stars. Started Krampus: The Yule Lord and I must say, it is turning out to be a lot better than my expectations.

Lára | 479 comments I've recently read Krampus: The Yule Lord and really enjoyed it. It was funny, I laughed so hard on some parts. and illustrations are amazing! This books was on my to read shelf for years

Lára | 479 comments I started The Man Who Loved Books Too Much: The True Story of a Thief, a Detective, and a World of Literary Obsession and it's quite intetesting so far but already see it isn't going to be a 5 stars read. I feel like there is too much unimportant info about just about everyone except the main guy

Brom is a really good artist and his artwork is really amazing. On top of that this story is really captivating.

Krampus: The Yule Lord There's a film over Christmas which I'm assuming is this, it's described as horror fantasy. It's on one of the sky channels which I don't have.

It used to be on every year. My daughter and I always watched it with curry, mulled wine and mince pie making. Last year it wasn't and I've not seen it this year. The dvd is no longer available either. Except on eBay. It's brilliant.

Lára | 479 comments I finished The Man Who Loved Books Too Much: The True Story of a Thief, a Detective, and a World of Literary Obsession and was quite disappointed with it. It's barely a 2 stars read.

Now finishing The Steel Remains and I started Bedlam, Vol. 1. I constantly have to remind myself it should be read from left to right and not right to left. I've been reading too much manga.

I think the book and movie are different. The book is not really horror. It has a lot of Norse mythology in it and it pits Krampus and Santa against each other. I'm really enjoying a lot more then I thought I would.

message 32: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 1651 comments Finished Battlefront - Twilight Company, which was better than it had any right to be, and started Bloodline by Claudia Gray, which seems to be mostly about Leia in the lead-up to Force Awakens.

Finished Krampus: The Yule Lord. Really loved it and would recommend it to anyone. Great fantasy read. Ok, so I'm going to give The Fifth Season a chance. Read the first bit of it and I don't really like the style it's written in. Makes me feel like I'm being lectured.

I've never read any of the Star Wars novels but I saw Rogue One last night and I feel this movie is a money grab by Disney to take advantage of Star Wars fans. Was a pretty good movie but hated the ending.

Well, I managed to finish Neverwhere. Last book for the year. 4.5 but had to give it a 4 because I'm trying to be stingy with my 5s.
